Description

You can hide, but you can't run... When the body of a church warden is discovered hanging from the belfry of a village church, DI Tom Janssen and his team must investigate the circumstances that led to his death. Whilst navigating the fallout from the conclusion of their previous case, the Norfolk CID team is under intense scrutiny with another police force investigating their recent conduct. Some people would like nothing more than to see the team fail. With no clear motive for murder or a reason to take his own life, the team have little to go on. Meanwhile, a hit and run accident on the Sandringham Estate leaves a pregnant woman in hospital and when the fleeing vehicle is located - abandoned beside a coastal sailing club - the investigating team find more than they bargained for when they look inside. The hunt is on for a brutal murderer whose motives and goals are unknown, and when other interested parties appear in the area the stakes are raised further. Just who are the hunters, who is watching, and, more importantly, who is the prey? Watch and Prey is the latest book in the Amazon 1 bestselling series, by British crime writer, J M Dalgliesh, the multi-million selling author of The Misty Isle and Dark Yorkshire books. Read more

  • Watch and Prey
One of the things I really love about Hidden Norfolk is the solutions to the mysteries and how often they just knock you right off your chair. If you love that also, don’t miss this one! Now I’ve got to get up off the floor….

  • Hard to Follow
I look to more of the local culture and history than I find in the later novels. Characters are great but I am looking for more growth between Tom and Tamera.

  • Lots of twists and turns!
Once again a great read and lots of characters to get acquainted with and figuring out who is related to whom, ending with a surprise.

  • One of the best in series.
As the Hidden Norfolk series progressed, and I was a fan from the first, Tom and all the characters on this small town rural. force have grown deeper and more complex in their relationships with each other and with the community they police. Their knowledge and empathy make these mysteries of violent complex crimes so compelling. JM Dalgliesh's latest thriller, Watch and Prey, counts as one his best. Can't wait Gor the next. ... show more

  • Excellent Story
It has been awhile since I read the previous books in the series so unfortunately I had forgotten much. Nevertheless, as a virtual stand alone for me at this point, I did not miss the earlier details. An exciting and unusual plot that I would never have guessed the solution to. What will happen to Tom now? It is not looking good. 😋 ... show more

  • Not up to Par
I have read all of this author's deceptive books and loved this series in particular. This one just seemed contrived and illogical. The main characters of the series just seem so have faded in depth. Tom and Alice seem to be too good to be true. The ending was baffling as was idea that they could use Eric for a decoy??? Why would the villain torture and murder two of the innocent victims after we learn of his motive in the end? I just loved this series initially but the last several have been disappointing. Could be Mr. Dagliesh is spreading himself thin with his other ventures. I now love the Duncan MCAdam books much more. ... show more

  • A stunner!
This is quite possibly the best one yet. The story had me on the back foot the entire time. I read straight through because I couldn't put it down. One of the best parts is the author uses real places in the story. Using Google maps was I able to visit every town, village and area that the characters went. I visited the church that the first victim was found. Very lovely place. Then I went to the local pub where the lady who found the body waited to meet the detectives. It was depicted perfectly right down to the color scheme and placement along the road. I looked around inside the pub and perused the menu. It felt like I could have sat down and had a pint. I visited each site used and looked around at the roads, nearby venues and attractions. What fun! I'll probably never get to Kings Lynn and surrounding area but after reading this book I feel like I just may have. Thanks for the great story and the enchanting journey. ... show more
