  • Good product - time consuming to use & clean - be careful!
The Good: -Makes espresso on par with an expensive machine -I have replaced counter-top espresso maker with this, it is much better. -It can make espresso in 3-5 mins -It seems durable (will update if not) -Compact and portable, I tuck it away in the cupboard and bring it out The Bad: -It takes a long time to clean -It only makes a single shot of espresso, if you are trying to make 2 people a double shot this is not very practical -It's messy, I always put a dish towel or a paper towel under it to avoid drips and spills -OUCH! Do not tamp fine grounds in the basket too hard, just give it a gentle press to even them out and do not fill it completely. If you do, the negative pressure inside will suction the top cap down so hard that you cannot get it off. The ridges around the top completely ripped my hand up while trying to get the cap off. There is no remedy except for time and a lot of muscle. Don't be dumb like me - use a towel so you don't get injured by the ridges if your cap gets stuck. ... show more

  • Don't waste your time.
I've owned and struggled with a NUMBER of these units for years now and despite promising beginnings I have to conclude that THIS PRODUCT IS GARBAGE. When upgraded with the barista kit, this device can produce fantastic espresso. BUT this device is prone to CONSTANT FAILURE. After YEARS of buying extra units, swapping parts, working on my technique, trying different grind settings, trying PREGROUND to remove grinder variable altogether, I have not found any answer to the constant CLOGGING and LEAKING. No matter what grind I use, it will work fine one day, and clog another day. If it doesn't clog, the basket/portafilter can leak and half of my espresso gets trapped inside the body of the unit. I've tried multiple units, tried every solution I possibly could to find out why the seals are leaking, nothing has solved it. It just leaks sometimes, and doesn't other times. It just works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't. And I can't deal with it anymore. It's so awful to spend so much time dialing in everything for this device, only to have it completely FAIL when I try to serve friends or family with it. I wanted to believe this device was a secret weapon of hand-powered espresso. An amazing device with an amazing price. But I'm absolutely done with it. And mind you this is completely ignoring all the other drawbacks that I was totally fine with. Like how it's terrible for traveling, the cleaning is not as simple as the manual says, and it produces very poor espresso when it is not using the double-shot upgrade from the barista kit. ... show more

  • Awesome engineering.
This thing is awesome. I bought it to try it and see it working. The preheated water went to the upper line inside the water bowl (more or less 80ml). I also bought the nespresso capsule adapter (NS adapter) to make things easier and cleaner. After everything is loaded in and everything is put back together, you twist to unlock the rod, and start to press the rod inward to get your coffee extraction going. First 2-3 pumps primes it (no real tension), then each press after that (I believe I got up to 18 pumps after of coffee being ejected), and at the end of it take the capsule out and rinse everything off. It has enough pressure to create a creama top without the use of sugar like the Cuban coffee style. Taking it apart shows how much time was taken to engineer this miniature coffee maker. It is well built and thought out. It's a great compact coffee maker. ... show more

  • Decent Product - Especially the Portability
I love that this is completely portable and I’m definitely satisfied with the quality of the shot, that said I did find a few things to be drawbacks. -The water reservoir is only plastic and does not feel like it fits tightly when you twist it into place, the plastic just sort of feels like it’s giving way instead of really locking in. -Also, it only fills that little demitasse cup, that it comes with, about half full. -And lastly, it is a bit awkward to hold, I find you kind of have to hold it in one hand. I broke my hand a couple of years ago, it’s just not the same as it was but, for me and my goofy hand the pumping part was hard. It is a pretty fast process though, which I appreciated, heating the water was the longest part. ... show more

  • A great espresso!
Firstly, I really enjoy my espressos. I have a Breville 870XL for my home brewing. However I was looking for a solution for the office and for travel. I have an Aeropress which works great, and makes a great cup of coffee. However, it can’t extract an espresso. I’ve been seeing the Nanopresso for awhile and finally pulled the trigger since the price is very reasonable. Physically the product is fantastic. Very solid with good seals. The ports filter has a metal screen which is great. It light and small enough to travel with. The little tote that comes with it is helpful. The process to make an espresso shot is really easy. Easy is always relative. If you want to make a great espresso with portable equipment, this is very easy. If you want easier, go to a coffee shop. The nanopresso, simply add the grinds, a little tamp, add water, assemble and pump. Out comes a great shot of espresso. You get the crema which can’t be achieved with the Aeropress. Cleaning is easy as well. Unscrew and rinse. They recommend to pop out the portafilter once in a while for a deep clean. Regarding the taste, it’s fantastic. It’s a nice espresso shot equal to my Breville. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants a portable machine to make a quick shot of espresso. ... show more
