  • Big heat in a little box
I used my new Vornado space heater last night in my bedroom which stays cold in the winter time Which is about a medium size room and I put my Vornado about 9 feet from my bed and I turned it on and instantly felt the heat from across the room now it was only 39 degrees outside last night but that little heater was so quiet but powerful enough to warm the whole room with in 15 minutes I am glad that I bought it and it comes with a 5 year warranty it's built good and works great I wish I had bought it years ago ... show more

  • Pretty and it works
Safe. Pretty. Bought 2. No issues with the heat due to realistic expectations. (Some of the reviews seem as if they expected the heater to be more instantaneous. It’s a small space heater. Not a microwave.) One will heat a 22 x 16 foot cold room slowly. We are in Vermont so the fact it could that in an 107 year old house was a feat that left me a bit impressed. Did have one problem - With in 2 months of the 2 died, BUT Vornado made good on the warranty fast. Reported it and had a new one a week later. Literally faster than Amazon could deliver to our area. The second has been working perfectly ... show more

  • AWESOME
Style: VMH300 — Adjustable Thermostat Pattern Name: Heater
I like everything about this small and quiet powerful heater - prior to this we were using one of those $500 heaters that was noisy hot and inefficient so I'm glad it died. I honed in on this after reviewing on Comsumer Reports - I cannot speak to its' longevity as have only been using it for about 4 days - but so far am very pleased with the purchase - and it does heat the whole room quickly - very nice ... show more

  • Evenly heats room
This heater evenly heats the room thanks to it's quiet fan

  • Nice design, but would like better directions
I bought this to supplement my natural gas heat with its soaring price. It works well, though the directions for the digital aspect should be rewritten for clarity. The unit is super easy to move from one room to another because of the sleek, built-in carrying handle.

  • Impression: VMH500 & VMH600 Vornado heaters are climate control devices, for sealed, pre-heated houses.
Bought my Vornado VMH 500 & 600 Heaters on 2016/12-15 The troubleshooting section, in the manual, says "close all doors and windows to trap heat. Allow unit to fully circulate heat throughout room; may take several minutes." This heater was slow heating rooms of 15 ft x 20 feet and 20 x 25 feet. My Vornado, set on 90 degrees and high, ran for approximately 3 hours, and barely hit 65 degrees. The temperature was 38 to 40 degrees outside in winter. I kept re-positioning my Vornado heater, working the controls, and finally putting the setting on 90 degrees, high fan, without the timer, to get any significant heat towards me, while getting dressed. Brrrrr! Turned heater on. Set the thermostat to 80. Put on High setting. Place 4 feet away. I get a lukewarm blast of air. The fan doesn't seem to be on high. I change the temperature to 90. The air flow finally seems sufficient but still luke warm. I put the heater 3 feet then 2 1/2 feet away to finally somewhat get the heat blast I'm looking for. The set thermostat temperature never seemed to match the room temperature. I was CONSTANTLY fiddling with the remote. The heater would turn off, and I would be cold. Turn it on, runs until the 3 degrees below the set temperature, turns off, and I would be cold. Turn it on to 90 etc. I would expect some fiddling with a new product but this fiddling NEVER ended after an entire year! The lower heat level light of purple would come on before reaching the desired temperature. I expected some serious heat to come out UNTIL the temperature was reached. It doesn't. This just doesn't work for me. I tested the thermostat for accuracy with two thermometers. The thermostat was consistently off by 3 degrees. For the price, that, in my eyes, is inexcusable. I called up Vornado and the guy said the 3 degree variance was within manufacturing standards, and to remember this heater was an environmental control heater. He was willing to provide Return Authorization(RA) to check the issue, but if the problem wasn't what they considered a malfunction, I would be charged for the shipping. So the warranty really is only good if the unit blatantly breaks and you must trust that Vornado will agree. Otherwise, you will be hit with major postage since this heater isn't light. Manual: "We expect this product to be PERFECT. if it's not, WE will make it right." What am I going to do now with a 5 year warranty that doesn't help me with the designed in flaws that will be called “normal"? "Whole Room Heater" is mentioned in the product description. My experience has been that the ENTIRE volume of air raises in temperature slowly; so no heat blast.. If my room was cold, I had a long wait. I liked the vortex air circulation idea since heaters like the heated oil ones don't disperse the heat. However, there needs to be a button labeled "HEAT BLAST" for those that need to get warm BEFORE the whole darn room does! The remote was helpful since I could turn the heater on from my bed. However…………for the price, the remote was cheaply made and didn't always register when pressed. I was constantly repeat clicking to set the time and temperature. The remote buttons require you to continue, linearly, through the numbers. I felt like a Skinner box rat every time I set temperature or hour settings. And if you held the button down, to avoid that situation, the movement through the numbers, on it's own, was painfully slow. I'd have gladly paid another 5 bucks for a time saving keypad. The buttons on the VMH600, itself, lack a positive feel for when the button was pressed . And again……standing there waiting for the numbers to run through to the number you wanted instead of offering a keypad; Nope….No escape from the Skinner Box. Imagine if telephones were this way……..holding down a button until you got to number 7 or 9, etc. That's why phones have keypads and nobody should put up with this digital linear %$%P. It isn't cheaper either when I consider how much time I wasted waiting for the darn thing to get to the number I wanted. Now…….I did like the metal box. I think that is a heck of a lot safer than plastic if the thing catches on fire, and I was able to touch the outside surface everywhere except the circle in the front(of course). The flush inset handle on the top was also very nice. I liked that you could set the whole bottom of the cube on the floor; Very stable. There are controls on the unit as well so you don't have to go remote hunting. It's attractive and quiet. The timer is a nice feature that allows up to 12 hours whereas many heaters have much shorter time spans; Prevents it running all day accidentally. The temperature is always visible, being on the top and the front of the unit. My impression is VMH500 and VMH600 Vornado is a subtle climate control device for sealed houses that have already been heated to temperature by a furnace. Not a heat blaster for imperfect houses where the occupant needs to be warm NOW, while the house is being heated. I have a couple 11 inch tall x 6 1/2 inches left to right x 4 inches thick units at 58.48 @ that, so far, really work well. These have replaced my two Vornados that cost me $287.12 ! Accckkk!……….…Sigh…………………………….. ... show more

  • Vornado's manufacturing is utter garbage (VMH300)
Style: VMH300 — Adjustable Thermostat Pattern Name: Heater
Summary: This Vornado VMH300 is faulty and there should be a recall to address the fan bolt, which is machined poorly. The nut does not fit on at all. Intro: Vornado technology is pretty solid. Heating coils create warmth; fan blows that heat through the room. I've sworn by it for well over a decade, and it is helpful to heat smaller rooms, and even helps heat our living room (which is pretty small but poorly insulated). The first Vornado heater I bought lasted many years. I always have at least two in the house. Over the years, their manufacturing has gotten to be so incredibly poor. Blame modern consumer society and greed and profits. They make it cheaper, sell it cheaper, and they can sell more at big box places like Bed, Bath & Beyond. They used to all be metal casing. Then they went to plastic. Then they added digital tech. The plastic is cheap. The digital tech malfunctions too easily. They generally last one season now. This year, I had to replace my old one that only was only a year old. I saw this metal casing and thought that was a nice return to the classic. It also has no digital readout. Only a couple basic knobs. This, too, I thought, was a good sign. First problem I noticed was the knob turns in the opposite direction of an intuitive on/off switch. Bad design. Bad quality assurance. Bad company. But it heated our room and...whatever. The Meat and Potatoes: It started to make a rattling noise upon start up, but it would soon "go away." Until this morning. The rattling was loud and nonstop. I checked and saw that I only purchased this one month ago, so I can return it to Amazon. But it's the coldest week of the year, and I need a heater. I was going to buy another and then return this. But I started reading reviews and saw some people had this rattling noise issue right out of the box, while others, it started after about a month, like my experience. One reviewer noted that he opened it up and was able to hand-tighten the nut on the fan and fix it. I'm a handy guy, so I opened it up and discovered the nut fits snugly inside a plastic casing that fits against the fan blade, keeping it in place. So, theoretically, you should be able to hand-tighten it. But it was not tightening. So I took the plastic off just so I could try to fit the nut on the bolt, but it wouldn't even screw on a little bit. Something was faulty. So I went to my shed and grabbed a few nuts the same size. They should screw on. But none of them would. Even using a locking (plumber's) wrench, I couldn't get any nut, even the original, to screw on. Conclusion: Upon inspection, it appears the bolt was machined poorly. Although my photo is blurry, you can see there is a flat side to the bolt, which is normal. A nut should be able to screw onto it. It's not the flat side causing it. The threads are not machined correctly. No nut will fit onto this thing. Vornado knows this is an issue. They should have recalled these and fixed them. They are selling them, knowing it's broken. They likely just forced the nut onto the bolt, and in time, it comes off because it's not actually screwed on. Vornado has lost a customer for life. I'm done with this company. Like many other companies out there, they are sacrificing quality for quantity (sell MORE at the big box store!), and thus they've sacrificed their brand for profits. Shame on them. I would have gladly paid twice for a heater that worked properly and lasted several years. But they are dead to me now. ... show more
