This is such a great fan! It’s quiet, it blocks light (so my little barking dog can’t see out), and it works wonderfully whether on Direct (air coming in) or Exhaust. It integrates easily with Alexa, and I love that I can adjust it even when I’m not home. Installation was a breeze—it fits perfectly in our window without needing to use the included baffles to fill extra space to the sides of the fan. We have a house that’s 100+ years old and live in Wisconsin, where we used to only get a couple of 90 degree days every summer. Thanks to climate change, now it’s more like 2-3+ weeks. Because of its age and location, we don’t have central and rely on window units. We have a large unit in the dining room that can also be controlled by my phone, and on hot days I can make the AC colder and set this fan, which is in the adjacent living room, to exhaust before I leave my office at the end of the day. The fan is powerful enough to pull the cold air through the house while still being quiet enough to not interfere with watching TV or having conversations. I definitely want more of these, one for each room that has more than one window, so we can keep the air moving and cool the house without breaking the bank on our electrical bill.     • Great fan; gets the job done, coupla minor flaws.

As a fan, this unit is pretty solid. Construction is good, it puts out a lot of air, and the native Alexa integration is great. The added functionality of temperature control, direct/exhaust modes, and touch panel are nice as well. It’s also reasonably quiet compared to most units. Setup was fairly easy, although I had to link it to my home automation in the space where my Echo hub resides and it required multiple attempts, including a factory reset or two along the way. That costs this design a half star; I should have been able to do it all from the bedroom and without having to do a factory reset (it was a new unit). The fan is not very wide and, as such, requires fins on either side to fill in the window space. Vornado includes slotted, foam fins you can place - 2 each of 3 different sizes. Problem is…they do not attach to the fan or each other. Additionally, their height is just a bit too short to ensure they stay in place. Mine regularly fall out of the window. To solve this issue, I’m attaching Velcro dogs so they can be held together. It’s a simple fix, but, again, a design issue that I shouldn’t have to deal with at this price point so another half star there. Besides those minor issues, I like this fan and its features. It does a good job of keeping the room cool, cycling adequate air in/out (it is NOT an air conditioner; no condenser, coils, etc). If your window is too small to fit a full sized box fan, this is a solid option. ... show more

Initially, I was hesitant due to the high volume of returns and availability of used-like new stock, but my concerns were quickly addressed once I received the product. The fan arrives with foam spacers designed to accommodate various window widths, including measurements for 1, 2, and 4-inch blocks, providing two of each. However, I encountered a minor setback with a 1/4” gap on one side and a deeper recessed window that didn't support the bottom foam adequately. These issues necessitated a bit of DIY ingenuity. By custom cutting some spare foam and using white duct tape, I managed to achieve a seamless fit, enhancing the fan's appearance and functionality. This process, though requiring some effort, underscores that the fan isn't simply a "drop-in" solution but rather one that may need some customization for perfect integration. The fan's voice control feature via Alexa is a standout, offering convenience and easy integration into our smart home ecosystem. Despite a slight learning curve with the voice commands—particularly the preference for the term "intake" over "direct" for inward airflow—the functionality works flawlessly, greatly improving ventilation in our bathroom. This feature has been particularly useful for exhausting steam from showers and ensuring a comfortable environment during other bathroom activities. The airflow capability of this fan is impressive, effectively circulating air across a considerable distance within our bathroom.     • Extremely disappointing — and they make you pay to return it

I bought the Vornado TRANSOM AE Window Fan with Alexa and it’s honestly just bad. It barely moves any air, even on the highest setting. It doesn’t fit properly in the window, and the only feature it has is Alexa compatibility — which I didn’t want and didn’t use. For a product that costs over $120, this is unacceptable. What’s worse is that Amazon charges $12.50 to return it, even though it completely failed to meet expectations. That feels like a scam. Don’t waste your money. ... show more
