Edit: I called the company and provided the serial number and without any questions they told me to cut the cord send a picture and they are sending me a new one tomorrow. Really good customer service. Make sure you register your products people I will let you know if I have the same concerns from the original post ———- It produces great airflow but something has been rattling 3 months into purchase and I can't use it bc of how loud and annoying the raddle is. No matter what speed or if I tilt the fan. It just stays in the corner and is an eyesore but was too expensive to toss lol I thought it needed to be cleaned or oiled, but I cant open it to get to it That is another thing I don't like, It gets dusty fast and cant clean I can sense where the rattle is coming from but the only time it stops, is when I have it face down on the floor... Not really practical I wonder if Vordado will replace ?? ... show more

I'm now set up to work from home in my basement. Typically, you wouldn't really need to worry about COOLING a basement, but I have about 3000 watts of waste heat pouring out of equipment around me. Until I can get a split AC system set up in the basement, my comfort is largely dependent on moving the heat around. A large Utilitech 24" fan right behind me worked well enough, but it is way too loud to have on during audio or video calls. That's where the Vornado 184 Whole Room Air Circulator Tower Fan, 41", 184-41" (Black) comes in... My previous experience with the Vornado brand consists of a Vornado 660 fan, which I'd been pretty happy with. As a result, I decided to look at the brand's tower fan offerings, when I started my research. Sure enough, the Vornado 184 isn't the cheapest option, but I thought it may be worth it if it worked well enough. The 184 arrived in a comically large box. Inside? Another large box. I suppose it worked well, though, as the item was intact and undamaged. Assembly consists of sliding the two base halves together, and then attaching the base to the fan unit with 4 self-tapping screws - it takes about two minutes. The fan is pretty distinctive looking, with it's large, curved vertical vanes. It's not ugly, but the piano black gloss of the base and the very top of the unit make it look a little more downmarket. I selected the 184, over the 154, because it's only a little shorter than me, when I'm sitting in my desk chair. I do have some notes on the functionality of the fan. In operation, the 184 has four fan speeds. The lowest fan speed is nearly silent, but moves very little air. The second fastest mode works well, but is pretty acoustically conspicuous. The fastest mode circulates air extremely well, but is too loud for videoconferencing. I would have preferred changing the speeds from 1 - 2 - 3 - 4, to 1.5 - 2.5 - 3 - 4. The base seems stable, even when on carpet. The controls, and remote, operate logically. Two minor gripes... 1.) the fan indicator is not really visible from a seated position - doming the top cap a bit would have made this possible, and 2.) it's fine that the fan is not a "smart" IoT device, but it's a little more difficult to automate with an external IR device due to the iterative nature of the fan speed selection. All in all the Vornado 184 is a good fan. While I don't really know that much differentiates it mechanically from other tower fans, I will say that it works well. It's also good to know that they have (and honor) the 5-year warranty on these items, as they tend to have a high duty cycle. Recommended ... show more

I bought this originally because a friend at work had a small personal model of Vornado that really kicks out cold air. I bought a tower fan because we had an old one break at the base. I trusted that it was a good name. I was disappointed that it did not oscillate. I intended it for my adult daughter who really likes a tower fan to cool her in the summer, since the wall air conditioner in our living room can't get cold air to her room down the hall. I expected it to oscillate but was surprised to find it didn't! I know box fans don't, but a fan of this type should. It has a timer to run 1 to 7.5 hours, but there is no way to run it without a timer! That is also disappointing. None of us in our household run our fans on a timer. We always run them until we choose to shut it off. It does kick out air, but it should be able to spread it out in the room. I will place it in our loft and use it up there. We not up there a ton. But overall, I will not buy again. ... show more

However the one we ordered on Amazon has a funky sound coming from it compared to the first one we bought at Home Depot. Not enough to to drive me crazy but just enough to notice. ... show more

I had no idea something so slim could be SO powerful! It really moves all of the air in the room. Fantastic! Easy to clean with an air compressor. LOVE it. Do be careful about the silver slivers in the front...they're very much like razors.

This Vornado tower fan is useful if you don't have overexpectations. It does increase air circulation in the room. The remote does turn the fan on and off, and adjusts the fan speed settings, although it has no light or other indicator to show the fan speed. You have to stand up and look down at the top of the unit to see the indicator lights, or if you are sitting within a few feet of it, try to judge by the feel of the airflow on your skin. The tower's height is deceptive, as 5 or 6 inches at both top and bottom do not "blow" air out... the vertical spinning fan only sends airflow out from the mid-section of the unit. I did not notice this before ordering the tower, but to be fair, it is accurately portrayed in Vornado's photos and diagrams. The twisted design of the unit means that I feel moving air on my head and shoulders, while anyone seated across the room from me feels it more on their legs. This can be adjusted by repositioning the placement of the unit. Overall, I am happy enough with the fan, as we mostly use it in conjunction with a portable air conditioner to help move the cooled air around the room. It is very quiet on the lower speed, and sometimes seems a bit too loud on the highest. I like that it doesn't have a large footprint, which is great for our small living room. I also feel it is safer to use around small children than a box or oscillating fan. For the price, I am content with the product and glad to have it. ... show more
