The 173 whole room Tower circulator offers a more effective way to circulate air with V-Flow circulation. Uniquely contoured air outlets create a wide span of constant airflow, without the need for oscillation. Typical Tower fans oscillate due to limited range of air movement. You feel the airflow for only seconds at a time. With V-Flow circulation, a high volume of air is continuously moving throughout the room, creating quiet, comfortable whole room circulation. The 173 features a remote control that magnetically cradles at the top of the unit, so the remote is always in reach. 3 speed settings, selected by push-button controls, allow you to tailor the airflow perfectly for your needs. The 173 Tower circulator includes a 1, 2, 4, or 8 hour timer ensures you run you operate in an energy- saving, efficient way. Vornado has eliminated the wobbly base found on oscillating Tower fans in favor of a solid and sturdy system that stands the test of time. I bought this fan as my previous similar fan had broken. The reason I love this fan as it does not move so it limits the chances of breaking near the motor of the other fan. It offers great circulation and it was much needed during the hot summer months with no air conditioning. I also like the remote so I keep it near my bed. Note I live in a studio apartment; I'm not sure how it would work in a larger house but for me, it worked for a 503 square foot apartment. It does get a bit loud on the high setting for when I was trying to watch TV or a movie so I would just change it to a lower setting. i work from home in a room with south and west exterior walls and an underpowered central a/c. this fan does a great job of circulating the cooler air and makes room about 7 degrees cooler than was the case with my previous fan. it's also nice and quiet on the lowest setting.

**Update, after receiving a replacement for the first unit. It too started the crazy beeping cycle after a few hours of use.🙄. Would be such a good fan if it didn't have the sleep timer and beep feature. *** I so wanted to love this fan, I have had great Vornado products in the past. As a fan it moves a lot of air and circulates the air in my room just fine. Remote is awesome, and i enjoy the noise lvls it has. Helps drown out other house hold noises.. However after a few weeks of use, the timer function which I never use. Decided to go haywire😪. Now it just sits in the corner, cycling through the different times on the timer function. It’s still going strong, and I purchased this fan about two years ago. It’s used in a room with a lot of small animals and helps keep everyone comfortable and keeps the air moving. When it’s hot, it’s a lifesaver. However it’s super difficult to actually clean. It collects dander and dust from food and bedding, and to clean it, the only way I’ve found is an air compressor or a leaf blower outside, and even then, it doesn’t get fully clean again. I run it in tandem with an air purifier and so it can go a while in between cleanings, but it still needs to be cleaned out at least once a month. Overall though, it’s not that loud, it doesn’t bother the animals when it’s running even on its highest setting, and I run it 24/7/365. It’s lasted a long time and I hope it continues to last. I won’t be replacing it with another one when it does die, I’ll probably upgrade to something a little easier to clean. It’s the perfect high to tip over on accident if you bump it, but the base does a pretty good job from keeping it from falling all the way over. It’s not ugly, but it’s not beautiful either. The dust that collects in the find definitely detracts from its appearance and wiping those down is difficult. So far, I wouldn’t discourage anyone from buying it, especially for the price. I can’t remember if mine oscillates or not, if it does, I don’t use that feature. It doesn’t take up too much room, especially if it’s up against a wall or in a corner, and it’s worked well in every size room I’ve had it in. ... show more

So, this is my second fan that I've bought because my bf and I split. He got to keep the fan. We've had it for a total of like, 3 years and it still works great, even with 2 cats and their hair. It comfortably moved air across our two bedroom apartment. HOWEVER, even though this new fan is great, there is no area in the top specifically meant to seat the remote. The old one had a spot that was created to fit the remote. The new one has a magnet... that is demagnetized. Sticks to NOTHING. So, it's just in the way on my desk instead of where I need it, like was specified. I've already accidentally knocked the remote into the trash twice. That's my beef. Great buy! Shame on them for getting cheap with the remote housing. (I'm just pissy because I don't use the remote and would like to not lose it) ... show more

I so wanted to love this product, I was hoping it would work well. It came and was easy to put together. Once plugged in and turned on, on the highest setting it barely blows air and doesn’t cool the room at all. It is quiet but that’s just because it’s not working not because of any advanced design. Debating whether or not to expend the energy to return it right now. Would not purchase this again. I have had good luck with other vornado products though. ... show more
