I'm replacing the main door at our salon. The old door had 2 locks--a deadbolt and a passage lock. The deadbolt was to lock the door for the night and the passage lock was to make sure the door stays shut between openings during business hours. I used to not have the passage lock and over time the spring that shut the door got loose so every draft would cause the door to be a little open and cost me money in heating and AC. The passage lock was a cheap solution to keep the door from swinging open. But those are not made for the outdoors, so it got discolored and rusty. This new lock is standard entry-keyed and has an anti-breakin latch so it's effectively a deadbolt but with the automatic keeping the door closed function of a passage lock. It's made to be an outdoor entry lock so no more rust. The handle is very easy to use and somehow combines a lightness and a sturdiness--I would expect that from a lock that's hundreds, so I'm pleasantly surprised this one is just as professional for way less. Why I said it's ideal for a storefront is also because it has a function to stay locked to the outside while unlocked from the inside (pushing and twisting the lock button does it). That's both a fire-safety benefit and an end of day benefit where business hours are winding down, so the last customers leave as they always would and late arrivers can feel the locked door reinforcing the hours of operation sign. Instruction Problem: The instructions packaged with mine called for removing the cover of the inside part of the lock, installing the two machine screws, and replacing the cover; but there is not enough clearance between the screw heads and the cover to do that. The instruction video calls for simply inserting the screws through the holes in the cover. The cover will distort slightly before the machine screws are fully torqued. If you do not fully torque the screws, they will quickly work loose with use. There is an instruction video on the Vizilock dot com website called installation-video-c3f. The Lock Quality: The inside cover distorts slightly before the machine screws are fully torqued, but they must be fully torqued or they will loosen with use. It is possible to turn the lock to the LOCKED position and shut the door leaving the room vacant with the door locked -- not a desirable performance for a public facility. The lock can be unlocked using a medium sized wedge tip screwdriver in the slot in the handle -- a good feature in case a kid locks himself in the bathroom -- you do not have to search for a key. The listing says you can use a dime, but I think that would be difficult. If the installation has room to insert a credit card to force the latch, that would work too (there is no keeper on the latch to prevent forcing it with a credit card. The lock feels very sturdy and is easy to use.

This is a REALLY nice lock. I'm really glad I found it. I had a golden door knob on my bathroom before, which matched the curtain rods, the mirror, my faucet and my shower rod. It wasn’t broken, but my husband took me out for my birthday and the little restaurant he took me to had one of these door handles with the sign showing if someone is in the bathroom right on the lock. I thought it was a good idea, especially because it was a busy night and I was not bothered by someone trying to break in even once. Funny how we get used to inconveniences like that if they happen all the time. But this was so surreal, not being bothered even once! I really wanted the same peace of mind at home. I have 3 kids and it's impossible to have any time to myself. I love them, but you know. So since it was my Birthday, AND I tasted what peace of mind felt like ironically in a busy restaurant restroom, I started looking these things up. SO glad this one exists. At first my husband wasn't thrilled about the price, but I said we should try it out and if it's not worth it we could return it. I almost regret getting it now because of how much my husband seems to be enjoying HIS peace of mind :P . And the price is definitely worth it. It took my husband 5 minutes to replace the old door knob and this thing is WAY sturdier feeling. It looks and feels expensive. I like how when I turn the knob to lock it it's like a definitive thump, like you KNOW it's locked. Highly recommend!

I wanted my kids to have a safe, quick way out in case of an emergency. This lock always stays unlocked from the inside. I can choose to always keep it locked from the outside, or just lock it every time I want it locked. There's a twist button that locks it till you open the door with a key or pushing the handle from the inside, if you just push the button. If you push and twist it, the lock stays locked to the outside. I also like that it's very smooth with no sharp edges, handle is very easy to pull to open and it's very sturdy feeling after we installed it. So the kids won't get hurt on it, it won't break even if they play with it, and they'll get out with no problems (God forbid if there's an emergency). It's very easy to clean too.

This was a good choice for my shop's bathroom. I saw there were other cheaper indicator locks on Amazon, but I wanted one with a key and this was the only one I found like this. It's really sturdy feeling compared to the door knob lock it replaced. I might recommend it to the coffee shop next door if it goes well. I'm not too worried though. I saw they have a website and they have a worry free 6 month warranty and the very nice chat operator there (Ana) told me they work with customers even if it's after 6 months to make sure buyers are completely satisfied, like they replace faulty locks within days of contacting them, have large discounts and offer personalized advice of the kind of lock that's best for customer's unique situation. It was very nice talking to her. Also, it showed when others were buying and what locks they were buying there and it looks like they're not doing bad. The site looks good. I'll update this if anything changes.
