abunda_amazon_reviews When I can find a few moments of spare time, I enjoy doing wood carving with a burning tool and also some laser engraving. Both of these activities produce smoke and/or have some slight odors to them. I needed a fan and filter setup to capture some of these odors for the few times I'm doing this indoors and can't vent outside. I have some other Vivosun products and I have been very happy with them, so they were the first I looked at and I'm glad I went with them again. These inline duct fans are true workhorses. They employ a centrifugal design which is very efficient and has little vibration as long as it is mounted to something sturdy. The variable control knob is a huge plus. I would estimate you can go from full power, which is about 440 CFM and turn it down to about 250 CFM on the low setting. I found this very useful several times in my testing so far. I simply lay the filter near my work area and that then connects into the fan via 6" duct hose. The fan then just exhausts into the shop. The wood smoke or the engraving smoke goes right into the white pre-filter, then into the carbon filter and out. There is virtually no odor on the exhaust side at all. The carbon is obviously doing its job! The next day I was putting some epoxy down and the fumes from that are very strong. I used just the duct fan and vented it outside through a window and it did a perfect job at removing the fumes and venting them outside. It sure beat having a large window fan going since the duct hose can follow me around the job! Speaking of the filter, it is very robust! The white pre-filter is designed to catch larger particles and trap them before they can move inside to the charcoal filter, thus increasing its life. The stainless steel perforations are laser cut and the round design is very durable. I also like how they made the 6" flange removable so you can swap it to the other end and really get your moneys worth out of the filter unit. This is a great combo unit that can be used for a variety of tasks, that's for sure. Here is a quick tip, when not using the filter, keep it in a sealed bag to prolong the life of the carbon in the filter! Got all the smell out of a 5x5’ tent with 4 plants almost instantly. On the lowest setting it creates strong negative pressure in my tent. The walls pull in pretty taught when it’s running on minimum. It’s quite on low, and not terribly loud if on medium or high depending on your needs. For example my home is only one story and it’s in my spare bedroom. You can barely hear it running if you stand outside the room with the door closed and actually focus on it when on low. If you turn it up I’ve come to find it really only stands out if it’s dead quite in the house. The central AC running is enough to drown it out. Additionally, the adapter on the end is greater than 6" in diameter, and so perfectly smooth that even after deforming the flexible 6" vent hose to get it on, and then really tightening down the screw-clamp, any deviation from perfectly horizontal positioning makes the hose slide right off. Also, the two ridiculously loose, slippery plastic buckles and slippery nylon straps they provided for them mean that if there is a slight deviation from horizontal, they loosen themselves back up and the filter falls on the floor. There is absolutely no reason that it should be this difficult to hang a Vivosun branded filter in a Vivosun branded tent with a Vivosun branded inline fan - and yet, here we are. I actually connected (2) 4x4 tents together, and this fan and filter is working perfectly. Update: After two grows in 6 months, the fan has performed like a champ. It’s been running for 6 months straight with no issues (knock on wood). Additionally, the only time anyone can detect an odor is when I open the tent. The filter works great too. One thing, I had to make a muffler for the fan because, even though it’s quiet, it wasn’t “stealth” quiet. Thomas;;;THis fan is such a disappointment. i’ve tried to get used to just how poorly it operates and how noisy by convincing myself it’s a newer and more powerful version of the same fan i ordered a year before. that’s bs. i believe i was sent a defective fan- it’s at least 5 times louder than the same fan i previously purchased and still used. it rattles and doesn’t seem fully connected. i didn’t return during the return period because, frankly, getting the thing setup in a tent is a pain, taking it down more of a pain and i honestly thought the vibration and additional noise were indicative of an upgrade in power. the fan is still under warranty and hopefully will be replaced without issue, in which case i will update my review. but for now, the one star rating is generous. the fan works, but the excess noise and vibration suggests poor design, poor assmebly or both — especially given that this is the second fan of the exact same model i previously ordered from amazon, and i only hear the first one when i’m in close proximity. i’m just sick of the noise, but i need the fan.;;Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2018;;1.0 out of 5 stars;;i hope i just got a defective fan (rattles, vibrates and excessive noise);;Lordjeffs94
