Ok, had to select and order quick to open frames in a queenless honey bound hive. The prime system got it to me before the replacement queen. That was great. As a hobbiest, the 2 frame at a time and hand crank was the choice. A little nervous it might be ...crap. (spoiler - it wasnt) Big well protected (but delivered upside-down) box was on the porch. Ok, no damage externally and WELL protected internally. (5*) Neatly packaged small parts and stand legs ( 5*) Instructions were (shockingly) easy to read and folow! (5*) Fasteners were 4 short, 4 medium, 4 long bolts, 12 star washers, 12 flat washers, 6 plastic knobs. Uh-oh... are there missing fasteners? Do i need to find some crazy special bolts?? Nope. Settle down, they INTENTIONALITY included extra and listed them in the parts count. Whew! Assembly WITHOUT tools was easy. (5*) Directions clear. Only "choice" is how tall the unit should stand. I chose medium... then at the end redid to the tallest setting (which should allow any size bucket seive to fit under it. Then made sure it was standing straight and using a 14mm, tightened everything down. Tested it out and... its SMOOTH. Easy to crank and looks easy to clean. (5*) Only "design" issue is the crank does not free wheel. When you spin it up to speed, the hand crank lever will spin with the frames. Not a big deal, but one thing to note. It could whack a child that spins it up, lets go and stands there. Overal, a good purchase.

When I purchased it there were only a few. But I will say that for the price it has been pretty good. I like the design with the cone shaped bottom so that most of the honey will come out without tipping it. I mounted mine on a base that made it sit up high enough that a bucket i will fit under the spout, plus gave me something to stand on while I cranked it. Overall I can't find any complaints. I have about outgrown it and am considering getting a larger one that is electric, but if you don't have that many hives or are fairly new at it then this is about as good of a product as you can ask for. But this is a great extractor. It is built sturdy and the cage to hold the frames is very heavy. I was quite surprised to see that it was as good of quality as it was. I would suggest to anchor it down to something, there were concrete anchors included in the box to use but I mounted it to a plywood platform which if I stand on it holds it down pretty good. A 5 gallon bucket will fit under the honey gate but if you have a double screen on top of it then it won't clear and you can't tip it to get the last of the honey out of the gate either with it like that. So, I chose to put it on a platform to elevate it and I can also tip it. The bottom is cone shaped instead of flat which impressed me because from what I could tell most of them were flat. There is an edge where they punch the hole for the honey gate that you might want to debur with a half round file or some embry cloth. Be very careful because the stainless steel slivers will get you good and got me a couple times. Just something you have dealing with stainless. I washed it out in the tub before assembling it and used Dawn dish soap to remove any oils or whatever before using it. All in all I am very satisfied with it.

The unit is large, larger than I expected. The tank comes with the standard protective sticky plastic still on it, that's good, it protects against scratches, but it did take 20 minutes to get it all off. The legs, the side that goes against the tank, are sharp - sanded those a little to take off the edge. The gears make a little noise, more in reverse, but seem to be in good shape. The ball bearing in the bottom is stainless or chromed, perfectly smooth. The honey gate was a problem - the hold through the tank is not flattened, so there is a curve and the gate back/nut are flat - it takes some amount of pressure (hand only) to get the gate and O-Ring to press against the metal tank completely, to make a good seal. 24 hours later the nut was laying in the bottom of the tank, it had cracked. I went in search of replacements, thinking it might be a standard size, but it's not - no hardware store had ANYTHING that would match the thread diameter. I ended up using a hose clamp around the nut to maintain enough pressure to screw it back together - I will contact them about a replacement nut on Monday. It appears to be a good unit for the money, but, not flattening the metal around the honey-gate opening is a design/quality flaw - I can see more plastic honey-gate nuts breaking.

I am a novice beekeeper but after one season of manually trying to harvest honey, I gave up and decided to get an extractor. This was easy to put together, able to secure to solid ground to be more sturdy and works great. I spun it as fast as I could and let the handle go until it slowed down a couple times and then flipped the frames and did it again and they were perfectly drained. In fact, it took me more time to scrape the wax capping off my frames then it took to spin it! Amazing. As for bottling the honey, I think it is a two person job. I used a canning funnel to help with the mess and the honey flows quickly so in order to stop it, I should have had someone to close the latch and hold it while switching jars (I managed to do it myself but it was a bit sticky. The last pint or two were removed by me tilting the extractor and having my son catch which was not too big of a hassle. As far as cleaning, it was easy and simple. I saved hours and tons of hassle with this extractor. Would definitely buy it again!!

I’m a new bee keeper with only four hives and this year is my first harvest. I have done one medium box so far just to test the process. Good construction, comes apart easily enough. You definitely wanna screw it down to a heavy base of some kind. I made one out of a 2x2x8 that you could stand on. You do not have to spin this fast to get the honey out. If you do you will blow out the comb from your frame.... yes I did it hehe. I do not use plastic frames or full sheets of pre-made wax. I let the bees do their own thing. I found putting the frames in, spinning a bit, talking them out and flipping them a couple times will also help your wax from not blowing out. A little extra work but your going to have the time. Honey filters slowly so you can’t really rush. I bought extra buckets and filters so I can swap buckets. Clean up.... scoop as much honey out as you can, even wait till the next day as the honey will continue to settle. The next day I put the machine, tools, empty containers and wax in front of the hives and the bees will do the cleaning for you. Don’t leave pools of honey for your bees to eat up, they will get stuck and die. This also attracts wild bees, bubble bees and hornets so just bee aware. Rinse with warm soapy water when they are done. It’s ready to spin some more honey.

Basic 2 frame manual extractor. Assembled easily - legs could be a bit more sturdy, but for the price, I'm not complaining. Will build a base to bolt it down to for added stability. Did a test run with 2 empty deep frames and it was very loud and off balance. Made numerous adjustments to no avail. Took some measurements and found the shaft in the basket assembly was bent or off center. One of the plexiglass lids was also damaged in shipping. Contacted customer support and new set of lids was on the way the next day. After sending video of the basket and shaft assembly, they sent a new one. Very responsive customer service and they took care of the problems.

I recently had a bad experience receiving another honey extractor, and that experience has prompted me to write this review. From the beginning of receipt the VIVO extractor was head and toes above the previous extractor I received. Not only was the shipping box in good shape, there was actually another box within the outer box providing further protection of the drum and other contents. After opening the second box the first thing I came across was a warning about sharp edges. If you've read many reviews of honey extractors you will find this is a common complaint, but I was pleased to see another warning from the manuf (and the sharp edges were not nearly as bad as they were on the other extractor I had received...I still have two bandages on my fingers from that one). Another pleasant surprise was that not only were all of the needed fasteners/hardware provided, there were actually a couple of extra fasteners/washers (If that's on purpose, I applaud the manuf - if not, hopefully the QC inspector doesn't get dinged too bad for this review). I also liked that this manuf included thumbturn nuts instead of normal nuts to fasten the legs to the drum. This makes it a little easier to assemble and disassemble when needed. The honey gate is not easy to install mostly because the honey gate nut and flange are straight, and the drum is curved, but this is a problem with most 2 and 3 frame extractors. It would be great if the threaded throat on the honey gate could be 1/4" longer, but I doubt the extractor manuf made the honey gate. There were no directions on how to attach the legs to the drum. There are three different length bolts, so you have to figure out which goes where (long on bottom, medium on top, short in middle). The unit even came with concrete anchors to anchor down the extractor legs to a concrete slab if that's your intent, but they are permanent drop-in anchors with the threaded rod sticking up above the top of concrete, so you can't use that space for anything else once you've installed the anchors unless you protect the protruded threaded rods. Once assembled the unit appears to work well. I won't be extracting any honey till June, but I look forward to it.

We recieved the VIVO Large Two 2 Frame Stainless Steel Manual Crank Bee Honey Extractor SS Honeycomb Spinner in the shipping time promised. It is well designed and an awesome idea. Things we really liked about this produce included the clear lids that let us see the honey as it spun off the frames. As someone new to bee keeping, this was really great to see (kids Loved it too). If you will need to move or transport your system, it has a couple of sturdy handles on the sides. If you plan to mount it in place, it has pre-drilled holes in the feet for bolting down. A feature we really liked is the collection drum. It is designed with a raised cone shaped which allows the honey to drain down and away from the spinning frames. For new bee keepers like us, we had to reach down to scrape out every last drop because we only had a couple of frames to harvest. The cone shape design made this a bit easier. :-) I think if the drain was placed underneath the container with the cone inverted inward to the drain it would be even better - but I expect that would only be better for people with only a couple of frames as it may reduce the volume that could be collected at one time. Next spring if we have more frames to collect, I'm sure I will be thrilled with the way it was designed even more. Unfortunately, the crank failed after the first few frames we spun. The handle turned but the gearbox that rotates the frame spinner was not catching - as if the gears are slightly ajar or misaligned. I contacted the seller via the Amazon site and Zoey H from Vivo replied promptly. She apologized for the problem and is sent a replacment gearbox.
