  • Great battery grip
The battery grip works great.

  • You get what you pay for...
Having previously bought the Canon grip for my other cameras, I decided to give an alternate (read less expensive) version a try. It certainly looks just like the Canon grip, holds two batteries, allows easier portrait shots and gives a better "feel' to the camera. However, Canon it's not! It feels like a flimsier version all around. The plastic feels, well, plastic. The batteries fit but not snugly, and the markings wore off in less than a week. Okay, Yes, I know what the buttons do but its never happened on my Canon grips. Does it do the job? Absolutely. Would I buy it again? Sure. Is the Canon Original worth almost three times the price? Yes and no. If I have the money I'd certainly get the Canon version next time. But as a viable alternative it's worth looking at. Its not three times better, but certainly twice as good overall, in my humble opinion. Go either way and I don't think you'll be disappointed. ... show more

  • You might not notice it's not Canon, except in your wallet.
I have owned Canon brand Battery Gips for 2ea. 40Ds and a 7D, still have the 7D. Other than a little bit different texture/feel on part of the Vivtar, I wouldn't know the difference, except for the $100+ dollars in my wallet I didn't spend on the Canon. It functions exactly like the Canon, and from a couple feet away you'd never know it wasn't. ... show more

  • Good value but may give problems with compatibility
This battery grip does the job for the most part. I had my Canon 5D mark ii fail at a wedding because of the battery grip. The camera kept automatically switching to AI Servo mode when I pressed the shutter. The shutter would open and then freeze while the AF mode changed. Once I removed the grip and tried again the problem was gone. I have since mounted back the grip onto the camera and haven't had that problem again. I haven't been using the camera that much since though. ... show more
