This bike has excellent value and good quality. It has adequate range for 20-40minute workouts on hilly roads by this older adult. The pedal assist and throttle are a joy to use and along with judicious shifting, the ride up steep slopes are comfortable. The steel frame makes it a bit heavy but sturdy. It can fold comfortably in the back of most vehicles. Packing: Cardboard box held up well to shipping but had one small hole and small tears. All the contents were well protected. Assembly: Using both the paper manual and the online assembly video, assembly took several hours with no issues. Supplied tools were adequate but some steps needed two allan keys or wrenches. Most of the time was spent tightening and inspecting. Front wheel bearing was a bit stiff and needed oiling. The chain at pedal hub needed to be pulled onto pedal sprocket. Front Brake lever had too little play resulting in grabbiness; needed to increase cable length slightly. Charging: Initial charging took about three hours. The 48V battery pack consists of 13x3 2600mAh 18650 LiPO cells in a sealed plastic box. There is a small power switch on the cable end which needs to be turned on to provide power. Electrical data from DVM and power meter checks infer that an industry standard BMS (Battery Management System) is probably integrated in the pack. This is required to maintain cell balancing, protect the battery, and optimize charging. Charge time consists of two parts. First half is in 'Constant Current' mode where the charge LED is RED. When the LED becomes GREEN, the battery is near full charge. The 2nd part of the charge cycle is probably the 'Cell Balancing' and 'Constant Voltage' Charging which is ensures full capacity and long life. The manual recommends charging for 4 to 6 hours (well past the switch from RED to GREEN). Road Performance and Ride: The only ride complaint about the bike as shipped is that the seat is uncomfortable. Amazon's recommended 'Giddy Up' seat option is much better. A power meter was plugged in between the battery connector and power cable to monitor Electrical performance while riding. A 20 minute 3 mile ride up and down a hilly route (2.3% average grade) showed that the bike provided comfortable uphills with pedal assist and gear shifting. Bike was stable and comfortable at 35mph downhill coasts. Peak power consumption was 750 watts and the ride used about 20% of the battery capacity (1.5 Ahr). The estimated range is about 15 to 20 miles on hilly terrain depending on the power setting used. The manual recommends limiting the battery use to 30-50% levels (2 of 5 Bars Left) for optimum battery pack life. Maintenance: I would add bike chain dry lubricant to the chain. The manual recommends oiling the moving parts periodically. Check all the bolts and screws for tightness during the first few rides. 25 Ride/125mile Update: The bicycle performed well for 25 4-6mile rides on hilly roads. -Battery/Charging: Charging generally took about 1hr to 'Green Light' but full battery voltage took at least another 2-3 hours. Charging to 24 hours did not cause any harm (smart charger kept battery charged at maximum with Float Voltage of about 4.2V/Cell. -For riders taller than 5foot 9inches, one needs a longer seat post. -In 'Low' pedal assist mode, the bike gives you a good workout on a hilly 5 mile course. In 'High' mode, you can power through the course with less effort and higher speed. 50 Trip/210mile Update: The bicycle was very reliable but had a few minor issues: 1. Rear Wheel Reflector fell off. Replaced with Amazon generic. 2. 3-Gear Shifter cap and screw fell out. Cap/screw replaced from a inexpensive Amazon replacement. Wear Items: 1. Rear tire Center Tread has signs of initial wear (see photo). 2. Chain/Gear mechanism needed readjustment and lubrication. 3. No signs of Battery Degradation! Battery does need 5 to 6 hours to rebalance the individual cells. (Per cell voltage goes from 4.16V to 4.20 V during the last 4-5 hours of charging). Enhancements: 1. Left Handlebar Rear View Mirror aides greatly with keeping track of overtaking cars. (See Photo) 2. GiddyUp seat with Rear Lights improve bike visibility. (See Photo) 3. Mount the battery in the soft case with the Cables and On/Off Switch right-side-up. (See Photo). This gives you access to the On/Off Switch. 100 Trip/500mile Update: The bicycle is very reliable and there are no additional issues. The only sign of significant wear was the rear tire. November 2023 200 Trip/1000 mile Update: Rear Tire Tread worn smooth but still usable (see photo). Battery bag Zipper Seam has a split ... added velcro strap to reinforce (Photo). Handle Bar Pivot tilts (loosens) when riding ... Locking Spline Screw was found to be loose (photos) ... show more

UPDATE after 2 years. My wife and I have been using these on an average of 20 miles a day, got caught under the rain, fell a couple of times, wore tires and break pads (which is normal after so many thousands miles), and these two never gave up, I have experience with ebikes and most 48v are problematic with the elctronics, these are 36v and have been working flawlessly, just a small problem with the battery but the seller quickly took care of that, hands down the best brand for budget ebikes, they're still going strong and we're planning to keep them for as long as they keep spinning. Also I'm glad to see a lot of people on VIVI branded bikes on the streets, and they're also very satisfied, good job guys, just a suggestion it will be great to see some bikes with carbon belt drive! Where do I start? Ok, everyone will ask the same, so it will go as far as about 25 miles on spped 1, 18 miles on speed 2 and 12 miles on speed 3, that's the range, and for full speed it can achieve 20mph if you're 170lb. Ok, now about quality... it's a chinese bicycle so there are some corners cut, but less cuts than many around, let's see... Main cut is in labor... All the bolts come loose, and I mean ALL, from rotors to stem, so if you never touched an allen key, it will be a good day torquing bolts. Make yourself a favor and don't cut corners, buy locktite blue, remove bolt by bolt and lock them, or you will start losing pieces. Once all's tight, all's good. Buy cable management hose, half inch wide, and make the wires look arranged like I did. Get yourself a metal crate and attach it with zip ties to the rack, it will make your ride super confortable. Lube everything, even the rims so nothing rusts, because everything will rust, use wd40 gel, it sticks and stays. I hate flats, specially in rear hub bikes, so bought thorn resistant tubes, green slime and mr tuff protectors and installed all, today I changed the rear tire because it was worn out after endless rides. Ok, from my point of view... A foldable bike, with nice working suspension, aluminum frame, 8ah battery, mudguards, rack, quier smooth ride, nice disk brakes, shimano derraileur, solid build. I payed 550 when this just appeared in amazon and for that price I would buy them again without hesitation. One thing I really liked is that it comes decently lubed, even the motor gears. In my experience with ebikes they always come with dried up lube everywhere and moving parts won't last, not the case with these two. Also batteries are easy to find and relatively cheap, so you can easily fit a battery 3 with times more capacity. ... show more

I did not expect the bike to reach the advertised range of 50 miles. The most I have achieved on low power assist mode is 30 miles. It is too early to judge the battery life, but I have not noticed any degradation after one month of use. This bike is heavy and difficult to keep vertical when folded, as the wheels keep moving. Watch out for bruises on your legs due to metal parts hitting your skin. Description says it is Aluminum frame but the heavy weight does not align with advertisement. The disk brakes are okay, but not much different from traditional rubber brakes. After assembly, it requires a lot of time to adjust the spokes and the disk brakes, as they tend to rub against the rim and make a hissing sound. This drains the battery while using power assist due to unnecessary friction. Adjusting the disk brakes proves to be a challenging task, regardless of the number of instructional videos available on internet. If taken to a bike shop, expect to pay around $80 to fix this issue. The ride is comfortable thanks to the dual shock absorbers, especially if you change the seat to a more comfortable one. Throttle does not work if you are paddling in low and medium power assist mode. You have to stop and then use throttle to make it work, essentially useless. Bike needs two to three full rotation of paddle to engage power assist mode, not very helpful when you need short burst of power immediately while on inclined slope. Motor is very powerful on inclination while in high power assist mode and lets you ride comfortably with little paddling Overall, the bike is made with good quality materials and looks stylish. ... show more
