I have had wrist, hand, and finger problems for years and have tried supports from at least six different manufacturers. These VIVE's are the BEST: offering aluminum thumb stiffening, wide bands with excellent velcro, and thick-but-strong cushioning and webbing for cooling. Others have not come close to these for comfort, stability, and pain reduction. Looking at the star ratings above, the points have very "different" meanings when applied to the proper functioning of protective, thumb-stabilizing devices. "Range of Motion" for example cannot be thought of as "good" unless it ALSO is "limiting"! These DO limit mobility, but in a way that does not pinch or cause pain with common hand functions. "Stability" MUST be limited to prevent over-extension or flexion of joints while ensuring that the constriction is uniform from the wrist to the entire thumb. For me, stability means that these devices protect by encouraging CONSISTENT mobility restrictions/freedoms. I seldom am surprised by unusual hand and wrist pains because these devices help me consistently control my hand movements. Are these "comfortable"? "Comfort" when it applies to wrist and thumb supports means that devices like these increase confidence that I don't have to pay much attention to them while focusing on whatever movements I can do without pain. Example? I'm 75 and unload about 150 30 lb boxes of food off a big truck for needy families every Saturday. I use my fingers like hooks while these VIVE devices minimize thumb pain involvement and the risk of reinjury! I also wear them for lawnmowing, tree-trimming, and auto mechanics.

I developed De Quervain's in my left thumb/hand & bought this to immobilize my thumb. In about 2-3 days, the pain was completely gone after using it all day (I ACE wrap when I sleep). The brace does immobilize the thumb, but you can still wiggle so you don't feel totally trapped or develop sores. It also immobilizes the wrist a bit, but not as much as longer braces. Lastly, I haven't had any chafing from the material. The thing I like best is that my fingers are not constricted as they would be on a longer brace, so it doesn't get in the way and I don't feel too unable to complete tasks. I can move my wrist about 1-2 inches and the top joint of my thumb can move about halfway down, but the middle and lower joints of the thumb are immobilized. I'm on week 4 & the 2 wrist straps are still fine, but the thumb strap has begun to wear out a bit to where the velcro will just detach and release when my thumb flexes a little too much. If nothing else, the brace works as a reminder to reduce using your affected hand/thumb. I expected to need this for about 4-6 weeks, so I think I've got good use out of it. UPDATE: After about 5-6 weeks of use, the velcro strap on the thumb doesn't stick anymore beyond aesthetic purposes. Any slight bend of the thumb will cause the strap to come undone rendering the brace useless.

I recently started feeling the symptoms from " De Quervain's" syndrome (tendonitis) in both my thumbs and wrists. Its a surprisingly painful condition and creates pain not only in the thumb, but in the wrist as well. I have a medium size hand and the brace is adjustable and very comfortable, secure and soft inside. You won't need to wear a stockinette with it. All three Velcro straps are very wide, strong and adjuatable. There is a brace and strap for the thumb, one across the palm and another across the wrist. The brace immobilizes my hand in just the right places and just the right amount. Although the thumb is isolated and somewhat impeded, which is the idea, the brace still allows for typing and texting. The thumb couldn't be tightened as much as I would've liked, so I wrapped some 2" self-adhesive bandage around it to make it snugger. You can also try some medical cloth tape or try stuffing some cotton balls inside. Amazingly, I felt instant relief as soon as I put on the braces. I couldn't believe it. I've been wearing both of them for 2 weeks now and they are both holding up very well. The Velcro and stitching are still intact, although I can tell the material is stretching out a bit, but that can be resolved by tightening the two straps around the hand. I really love these braces and they've helped me a great deal and I've even kept them on when I sleep. I actually hate to take them off because they feel so good. It reminds me of the pain relief after a doctor has casted a broken bone. These braces, along with thumb and wrist exercises, have reduced my pain significantly. For anyone interested in trying physical therapy exercises, there are some great videos on YouTube created by physical therapists and orthopedic surgeons, that demonstrate various hand exercises specifically for De Quervain syndrome. Great product and pain relief too! Don't hesitate to buy it to relieve your pain.

Love this product. I ordered a small and it fits perfectly. Has strong Velcro and a couple bars can come out if needed. This mobilizes my wrist and thumb greatly and that’s where the pain was coming from. I wear it at night and it’s feeling much better. Even ordered a second one !

Has a weird gap at the edge of my hand even though I followed the size chart. This makes the strap rub on my skin. Probably needed the larger size, but then it may have been too long on the thumb. It also has plastic to tighten one of the straps, which I didn't see in the pictures. Was hoping to wear it to rugby, but can't with that. It also doesn't have the best wrist support. When I tighten to where it feels supported, it ends up cutting off my circulation. It does provide good support to my thumb. The material is also nice and lightweight. Could work well for someone who needs lighter wrist support and has a skinnier hand.
