  • The best value Mesh router.
Style: 3-pack
Are your smart phones, laptops, door bells, wifi security cameras, or any other devices (IOT) struggling to connect to Wifi or intermittent connection issues or trying to reconnect in your big house? Don't want to spend a lot of money? The solution is Mesh WiFi. The product I found very good is Vilo Wifi Mesh router at $64 + tax. With this you will get 3 Wifi Mesh devices. If you would like to add more it does not cost much (just $23 + tax each additional device). It looks very good. Setup is easy using an app on your smart phone. It is wifi 5 (doesn't have wifi 6 - the latest version), but it still works very well. It has 2 LAN and 1 WAN ports, can connect either with wire or wireless. It has parental controls too. I have been using it for a week. It is not a big problem but I wish there is a way to setup the router IP address and the devices connected to it manually. Thank you for manufacturing such a good device at very good price. UPDATE: With the latest app version I am able to manually set router and client IP addresses. I wish there is a way to set up using web browser. UPDATE2: I see some people left bad reviews and they say poor performance, but not sure why. I am very happy with this product. ... show more

  • it shoud work quite well for 90% of users. unless you have a predefined network.

not sure why others have such a hard time setting these up. it was simplier than setting up an Alexa. hardest part was finding the app. and you absolutely need the app to set up. pros: with 4 units (I got an extension) it covered my 2000sq' house quite nicely and the front and back yards. i could set my own password and router names and the name was the same for all 4 devices. connection speed was enough to stream a movie on one device and do normal browsing on another simultaneously. switch clocked the ethernet port at the advertised 1G. overall, the thng does exactly what it says it does: provide uninterrupted mesh network to all devices within the same wifi. cons: to set up the devices, you must download and use the app. to use the app, you must register with an email address. there seems to be no reason for it so my only conclusion is to sell your info. i gave a disposable one so i've no idea of where it went. handoff from one device to another was far less than smooth. you typically had to disconnect then reconnect to the next as you walked around. bandwidth was okay as noted above. all devices go through the same 1G port on the base unit so ALL devices are limited to that total. you cannot override the internal DHCP server so if you already have a home network with defined devices via DNS, this will not recognize them as it sets up a completely different network, typically on the 192.168.58.0 subnet. so anything not there wont be seen. overall, i would recommend this to anyone with a typical home network: ISP, coupla tablets, phones, laptops, etc. not sure i'd go whole house and put all the 4K tvs on it. but should be great for most portable devices. for the price, it is awesome. goes head to head with eero for 1/3 the cost. ... show more

  • Simple & inexpensive but not cheap.
Style: 3-pack
I had read great things about this new startup and their budget-friendly mesh system so I thought I’d give it a try. For a couple of years I have been using a Netgear Nighthawk until it decided to brick itself. I then decided to test out a Tenda mesh system… that’s a story for another day. This system has impressed me. Compared to the Tenda my down/up is 200-300% higher. I’m consistently pulling in 300-400 Mbps throughout my house now (wireless) and easily hit my 940 mbps mark wired. No issues there. The setup was super easy but I messed it up by attempting to utilize wired backhaul to the nodes. Out of the box, it isn’t supported. However, their support docs online provide the necessary steps to modify the config after initial setup. I found the docs after already messing up my setup so I made it more complicated than it needed to be and had to reset everything to factory and try again. Following their docs though I got the nodes wired up and everything working pretty seamless. So that’s on me for trying something more advanced. I did have to hit up support for an issue with manual IP assignment (not currently supported I discovered) and they were very quick to respond and great to work with. No complaints there. Some (-) things I have noticed… Some of my smart devices and HomeKit, namely a eufy camera, have not been happy about how these routers handle the 2.4/5 frequency. I ended up turning off the managed mode so I have two distinct networks and that seems to have helped. I’m noticing some of the trouble might be due to a bug with Apple’s tvOS though and may not relate to the router at all. TBD. I’ll probably end up leaving the networks separate just because I’m a control freak. Overall, if you are looking for a simple mesh system that blankets your whole house and provides consistent speeds but don’t want to break the bank, I’d recommend this product. If you’re looking to do any sort of more advanced setup (manual IP assignment for example, which is not CURRENTLY supported) then you might want to go for something else. As a side note on some of the more negative reviews here… The placement of nodes in a mesh network can be pretty critical. It doesn’t matter what system you have, if you don’t think through the positioning you’ll probably end up with bad results. I have been through A LOT of routers of various brands over the past 15 years (Netgear, Asus, DLink, Linksys…) and used to do internet installs for a wireless company many years ago. Bottom line, I’d recommend these for a basic setup. I’ll be buying two more sets for my parents and sister! ... show more
