  • Excellent converter
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
After installing a 24v all in one off grid inverter I needed 12v for the ready of my cargo conversion. The unit is well built and puts out a steady 13.2 volts. I’ve only put a 40 amp load on it and it didn’t make a bit of difference on the output

  • Runs RV accessories
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
I've installed a 24V battery system in my RV and needed the 12V system to run RV accessories, including hydraulic jacks and slides. I found this unit while searching for a DC/DC converter and at 70Amps continuous it would fit my requirements, I also found that for a short duration output 85Amps, therefore I installed an inline 80A fuse on the 12V side. Another little perk that this item has is its adjustable output, the manual states the default is 13.2 output, I left it at 13.2 the RV DC systems run better on 13.2 than on 12.0. Anyone who RVs knows that when using batteries as the 12V power source (especially lead acid), as the batteries drain the voltage subsequently goes down, One RV bonus I have by installing this unit is that the voltage will remain fairly constant, that is until the battery completes the discharge cycle. ... show more

  • Provides 12 volt power to RV and Have used for 50 amp loads up to a minute
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
I bought this for an RV 24 volt upgrade and this takes the 24 volt power from and converts it to 13.2 volts. I have this on at all times now for two weeks of use and ahas provided 12 volt power flawlessly to my RV side, to include the leveling jacks which draw 50 amps, with no spikes or dimming of the lights. This device also provides the 12 volts for the emergency breakaway. What I don’t like about it is how the wires are connected to the converter. Because of distance from the battery, I went with 2 AWG and found mounting this challenging. The top lugs could only fit in the 9 o’clock, 12 o’clock, and 3 o’clock position because outside bows out not allowing the lug to sit flat (See Pic). Also the studs for the posts only have a bolt on the bottom, and are not big enough with surface to surface contact for 2 AWG lugs. (Also Visible in Pic) The studs also come with a thumb screw which for mobile applications couple shake loose. I secured these thumb screws with Kapton tape (See Pic) Finally, ground lugs go to one stud for the 24 volt and 12 volt side. One stud won’t fit two 2 AWG lugs with enough threads to secure the thumb screw (see Pic). Perhaps one or two threads will catch, but not enough to keep tight. ... show more

  • well built quality product
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
Already had one of these in my motorhome but 70 amps was not enough to start my generator. Added a second in parallel and now generator starts perfectly. Easy install.

  • Won't accept insulated terminals without modification. Thoughtless design detail of a great product.
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
I like Victron products and I use a lot of them, from small power supplies like this to large inverters. This little Orion power supply is great but this is diminished by the fact that the builtin wiring terminals have plastic boots around them that are too small to accept the insulated versions of the mating terminals you are meant to connect to them, forcing you to either use uninsulated terminals (not acceptable in my book) or cut away the boots. The boots are there for a good reason: to protect the builtin terminals from the metal enclosure. But really, did it not occur to anyone that there is a standard for mating insulated terminals together? Just use the correct size boots. These days I find myself constantly frustrated by the lack of thought put in to so many tech products I use. I am constantly re-engineering, modifying, and fabricating to get things from 90% good to 100% great, all of which could have been done by the manufacturer. I would gladly pay a premium for this completeness too, because it just represents the true cost of an acceptable product rather than the discounted price of a substandard product. It's pathetic. ... show more

  • Can't handle much. But does what it can.
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
I didn't realize that 70 amps is not a whole lot when bringing down 24v to 12v and the inverter is pulling 4000w. Unfortunately I did end up returning it, but for someone with a lower power demand this would be perfect.

  • Works like a champ.
Size: 24/12-Volt, 70 Amp
Easy to parallel with other dcdc converters of same model. Make sure you set same voltages and each Orion’s wiring is same length/gauge in (equal to the other) and a same length/gauge out (to each other, not, to 24v or 12v of the Orion).

  • A bit disappointing...
Size: 12/24-Volt, 10 Amp
This seems to be acceptable so far. Maybe I was expecting more, but it seems to be merely OK. It's advertised with an ability to charge batteries, which is what I'll be using it for. It'll be charging a 24v battery from a 12v supply on a truck. I tried running the output through a 25 ohm resister with a lab power supply set to 13.6v. After cranking the voltage knob up all the way I got an an output of 27.1v. That's disappointing -- only a bit over 1 amp output. This thing is rated for 10 amps at 30v. So only getting 1 amp at 27.1v is disappointing. Moreover, the output voltage changes based on the input voltage. So it just wasn't all that stable. If you want any sort of accurate battery charging or regulated output, this is not the device for you. It's just not very good. Update: just installed it to actually charge the rv 24v battery. With 14.5v input, it manages about 8.4a at 26.3v output. With a 12.1v input, the output drops to just about 5a. This is with the output potentiometer cranked up all the way. I haven't had a chance to observe it in action for too long -- but it looks like it should charge the batteries slowly while I'm towing the RV. ... show more
