Description

Viair 440P Portable Compressor is the largest, highest flowing portable compressor in the entire Viair portable compressor lineup. Simply attach its supplied heavy duty battery clamp power leads to the battery, and attach the lever style air chuck to a tire valve stem and turn the unit on, it can inflate up to 37 inch tires. Air pressure can be monitored using the 5-in-1 inline inflator/deflator hose and gauge included. Always turn off the unit to take an accurate pressure reading since air flow into the tire will show an inaccurate pressure reading while the unit is running. VIAIR's 440P is the ultimate 150 PSI portable compressor kit. It can inflate a 37-inch tire from 0 to 30 PSI in less than 5 minutes. The 440P is the largest and most powerful portable compressor kit available today. Rock crawlers and semi-truckers alike will find the power of this unit irreplaceable. The kit includes a range of accessories stowable in its soft carry case, including inflation tips, a 5-in-1 inflator/deflator open ended air hose with 120 PSI gauge, dual heavy duty direct battery clamps and more. .caption { font-family: Verdana, Helvetica neue, Arial, serif; font-size: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; } ul.indent { list-style: inside disc; text-indent: -15px; } table.callout { font-family: verdana; font-size: 11px; line-height: 1. 3em; } td.vgoverview { height: 125px; background: 9DC4D8 url(https://images- na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detail-page/callout-bg.png) repeat-x; border-left: 1px solid 999999; border-right: 1px solid 999999; padding-left: 20px; padding-right: 20px; padding-bottom: 10px; width: 250px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px; } Largest, Most Powerful Portable Compressor Kit Available The VIAIR 440P Portable Compressor offers inflation of up to 37-inch tires at a rapid rate, and operation at up to 150 PSI for up to 15 continuous minutes at a time, providing that there are 30 minutes provided afterwards for the unit to cool sufficiently. The unit is powered by an easy to establish temporary connection to a 12-volt battery power source via included alligator clamps. The 440P comes with an open-ended tire inflation hose with included 120 PSI air pressure gauge that offers the following functions: air up, air up intermittently, air down, air down intermittently and check tire pressure. Duty Cycle is commonly expressed in percentile as: compressor on time (compressor on time + off time) %. As an example, a compressor that is rated for 25% duty cycle means that compressor can be operated at: 100 PSI @ 72°F for 10 minutes on and 30 minutes off. 10 min. on / (10 min. on + 30 Min. off) = 10 min. / 40 Min = 25% duty cycle. • Viair 440P
Viair 440P review: I have an RV and a Jeep (so I do air down the tires for off road use on the Jeep). I purchased the 440P because of the higher CFM rating (it has 3 CFM). The bad part is it has a 15 min use before 30 min off time. So I check it on one of my jeeps tires (they are 35"). I aired the tire down to 15PSI and timed the 440P to fill it back up to 37PSI. With the jeep running it took 2 minutes and 2 seconds to do it. So I will have no problem filling all of the tires on the jeep from 18PSI back up to 37PSI easily within 15 minutes. (or topping off the 22" tires of the RV). I only gave it 4 stares due to the 3/8" air fittings rather than 1/4" (standard) fittings. This comes with a 25' coiled line (and I knew I would need 50' to fill the RV tires), so I changed the male 3/8" fitting on the pump to a 1/4" male (now it can use a standard hose and fitting). I also purchased a female 3/8" fitting from Lowe's and attached that to a male 1/4" (so I have an adapter to go back to Viairs system and their hose. They should just put a 1/4" connection and hose on it. ... show more

  • fast air compresso
this compressor is pretty fast compared to others in its class. its heavier and its a little larger than i expected but i like the fact that it cut down my airing up time in half. i can refill each 33" tire from 12 psi to 35 psi in about 2 min 20 seconds. the gauge is off by about 10 psi but the instructions warn you that you have to turn the air compressor off to get an accurate reading. i just simply remember that it reads 10 psi more when turned on and turn it off when it gets 10 psi above the desired pressure. the oversize quick release fitting is nice because it keeps you from burning your hand due to the hose getting extremely hot after use. the carrying bag is nice but its a little on the big side. i could easily fit everything including the hose in the main pouch. it could be a lot cheaper considering its made in China like the rest of the portable air compressors out there but i guess you are paying for the viair name brand. all in all i am satisfied with the purchase. ... show more

  • Fast filler, pushes high volume for large tires
Tops off 35” tires quickly and I hear they’ll get you up from an “aired down”, low pressure to a road PSI in minutes. I don’t like the fact you have toggle the power switch to check pressure but with a few tries you get the hang of it, especially if you have a second set of eyes on the tire. The hose is a bit short for my Jeep JK but still reaches - it feels like you’re stretching it for the rear spare. It doesn’t make a lot of noise but, then again, I’m running the engine for max compressor performance. The deflator needs some work since it’s tricky to engage and disengage. Speed is what I need and this definitely does the trick. ... show more

  • Nice unit, but...
We use this on our truck, 2 cars and an off-road Jeep with big tires, and we've helped neighbors, so it probably gets used once or twice a week. It works great, but the "chuck" (the part that attaches to the tire's valve) wore out after about a year. The only way to replace it from Viair is to buy the entire hose assembly for $39.95. Then after about two years a pipe connection on the compressor broke and we had to get that replaced from Viair for $65. I expressed my disappointment when I called their tech support, so they gave me the hose assembly for $20, the pipe assembly for the usual $65, and they paid the shipping, so their customer service is good. Update: Viair tech support guy told me to replace the rubber insert (see my photo) in the "chuck" and it'll stop slipping off tire valves or leaking. You can get these rubber inserts from Viair. You'll need basic tools to push out the metal pin that holds the chuck together and then tap it back in. So if you use this pump as much as we do you'll need to do this once in a while. They should change this chuck deisgn/construction but anyway that fixes it. ... show more

  • Better than your average 12v compressor
I bought this compressor so I could air my tires back up after offroading. I wont go into detail on the advantaged of doing this but theyre significant enough that I wanted to invest in a quality unit vs just getting one of those little toy cigarette lighter ones sold in most stores. I decided on the 440P vs Viair's other offerings because of the air output and i wanted something with a bit faster fill times vs a higher duty cycle or automatic shutoff. As far as the initial quality goes everything seems to be pretty well made. The way the little base attaches to the compressor itself is a little flimsy since its just 4 little rubber standoffs but I doubt they will break if I dont just beat it around. The Hose is also of pretty good quality, Better than I expected even if its the coiled type that always seems to end up tangled in a big ball after one use. As far as using this compressor It does as advertised, runs smoothly and quietly and surprisingly has no problem pumping my 7 gallon air tank to 120PSI. I can air up my 32" tires in 13 mins from 18-50 PSI with the assistance of using the air tank as a resivoir. One thing to keep in mind is the warning stickers on "extreme heat" this thing will really cook after 10-15 mins of being on. You WILL burn yourself if you touch the metal parts. The handle insulates everything but keep it in mind. You cant just throw it back in the carry case when your done it needs to cool off. Only 4 stars because Of the price, and the amount of heat generated. So far ive put it through 6 or 7 airing up cycles so it will be intersting to see how the longevity is. Overall Its a much better unit than the cheaper ones out there that i have used in the past even if they do the job for occasional use, They are no replacement for something like this that will see heavy use. ***Almost 3 years later update*** I have had this compressor for a few years now and so far it is still going strong just like it was when I got it. It has a permanent home in my vehicle and I have had no problems with it. There are a couple of points worth mentioning, The pressure gauge that is built into the hose is kind of worthless, it will not give an accurate reading when you are actually pumping air, infact it is not really accurate period and really only gets in the way. Also, the way the air nozzle clamps down on the valve stem can damage the threads on your valve stem. I kind of wish I had a built in air compressor setup because I always get people asking if I need any help when airing up but then again, this is very portable. The carry case has held up well also. Still highly recommended! *** 4 year update *** Onto the 4th year I have owned this. Still going strong! I use it approx once a month and to date I have not had anything break on me with this kit. The metal base this compressor stands on has gotten bent a little bit but that might have more to do with being mailed across the country in a flat rate box....twice.... The large plastic "cover" on the quick connect fitting of the hose sometimes slides around and makes it hard to disconnect the hose but no problems. Having this over a permanently installed air source is a double edged sword... It is portable. Which is nice. But... Also kind of a hassle to un bag and get set up compared to something that you just plug a hose into and go. And again it gets annoying when people pass by you with your hood up on the side of the road and stop asking if you need help. I should be happy people still offer assistance these days but you know it does get tiring and you just want to get the tires aired up and go. I honestly was not sure how this compressor would hold up to its own heat it generates as that is a major factor when it comes to wear on something like this but surprisingly it seems to be un-phased 4 years and counting. ... show more
