I installed this fan in the wall of my generator shed to remove the hot air (not exhaust gas). Plugged it in to the generator so it runs when the generator runs. I had a little problem with the louvers not working smoothly, until I found out that my un-square opening was putting the fan frame in a bind. After I squared the opening, the louvers worked properly. They move so freely now that I have to tape them shut so they don't flutter in a breeze when the genny is not on. My only gripe is the 8" cord left sticking out of the makeup box. I could have put a cord cap on it and used an extension cord for power, but I avoid using extension cords whenever possible. I cut the female end off a computer power cord and re-made the joints in the makeup box. Clean now, and complies with the NEC for having a disconnecting means nearby. The fan can mount from either the inside or outside. I mounted it from the inside, so all I had to do was caulk the top of the penetration. ... show more

    • Fantastic Little Fan – Until My Daughter Stuck Scissors in It!

This fan worked perfectly right out of the box. It’s compact but surprisingly powerful—I used it in my kitchen, bedroom, and even out on the porch while working. It’s quiet enough to run without being distracting, and the airflow is strong for something this size. I loved how lightweight and easy it was to move from room to room, and the multiple speed settings were a nice bonus. Then came the incident… My curious little daughter decided it would be a good idea to see what happens when you stick a pair of scissors into a moving fan. Needless to say, it didn’t end well—for the fan or the scissors. Total destruction. But honestly, I can’t even blame the product. Up until that moment, it was doing exactly what it was supposed to and doing it well. If you don’t have small children with a flair for chaos, this fan will serve you very well. And if you do—just keep it on a high shelf! I’ll be buying a replacement because it really is a great little fan for the price. ... show more

    • Works, doesn't always close when off

Purchased this to help cool a small workshop in the garage attic. Its a barn roof style building and not insulated metal roof so gets very hot in the summer. This does a fairly good job of moving air, especially if I open the door on the other side. The price was the best for its size I could find This would be perfect if: - It always closed fully when off - It came with a power cord attached - The corners were sealed - no plastic on it I ended up adding a power cord to plug it in to a switched outlet. Its designed to be hard wired, this isn't really bad, but would be nice if it had a cord but was set up to easily remove it for hard wire install. This didn't affect my rating. It would be nice if it closed fully, but the louvers can rub on one side or the other and not close fully when off. I just bang on the wall when turning it off and it closes the rest of the way. The corners are not sealed so I needed to use some caulking on them so rain hitting it wouldn't come inside There is a plastic film on it which is hard to remove. The metal is stamped so hard to remove the plastic without cutting yourself if not careful. ... show more
