  • Good value for the money.
Pattern Name: 16QT
I bought the 15L (16qt) size, and have been testing it at home. Its intended purpose was to keep a few basics cold over a weekend camping trip, so I needed something that could last 48 hrs on a charged battery power unit. PROs This device is efficient. For the geeks like me, it consumes about 25Wh/h. Running it off my 2kWh battery unit, it ran for just over 80h before depleting the battery (I had the temp set at 37F and it keeps stuff cold enough to give me an ice-cream headache if I drink the water too fast). I also have a smaller 300Wh power unit that can run the fridge for about 12 hrs, so that could come in handy for at least an overnight camping trip. One of the reviews stated that they ran it overnight on their car battery and everything was fine. I would not recommend doing that, after 8 hours the car battery would be depleted to a highly dubious point, especially if the battery is old and you really need that car to start the next day. I like that it has bluetooth app although that's functionally unnecessary - the controls on the panel are quite sufficient. Other reviews stated that it cools down very quickly. I found this also to be the case for mine, within 15 minutes it had dropped from ambient room temp to the low 40's. The capacity and dimensions are fine for smaller items - water bottles, cold cuts, condiments, pint-sized milk or creamer, produce in a bag, etc. I also like that it's very quiet. I saw another review where someone kept it under their bed, and was bothered by the noise. They must be an extremely light sleeper because I find that the device is whisper-quiet. Admittedly I live in a big city, and ambient noise is louder - I may update this review once I use it in a quieter location with less ambient noise. Also bearing in mind the device is brand new, and over time things can loosen up and get louder, so that's yet TBD. CONS: The container has enough space for short (weekend) camping trips, but the dimensions can be awkward - I like creamer in my coffee, and I buy it by the quart (box carton type). This does not fit in there standing up, and I don't want to lay it down and risk it leaking everywhere. So I either have to buy a pint sized creamer, or transfer some into a jar or other container that will fit. I consider this a "minor" problem, not a showstopper by any means, just a pet peeve. The controls are on top, facing up. If I'm going camping, I am usually packing duffel bags, tents and other gear at the same time, and this fridge needs to stay flat on the floor, so things get packed and fitted around and overtop of the fridge. The fridge itself is a sturdy build, and can easily handle the weight and knocking around of stuff on top of it, but there is a risk that control buttons could be inadvertently pushed. It would be disappointing to discover that the device switched off, or froze stuff, or warmed up after a long road trip to the destination. A flip-cover to protect the controls would be an easy product feature to incorporate. As mentioned, I set the device temperature at 37 degrees. If the container is mostly empty with just a few items in there, I see the digital readout temperature varies from 35 to 41 between cycling on and off. I'm not sure where the temp reading is being taken from, as I find it hard to believe that the cold contents of the fridge are varying in temperature the same way, it's far more likely that the contents remain at pretty much consistent temperatures. This is fine for me, but may not be ok for people who need finer temperature control. I have not independently measured the internal container temperature, and I expect that with more mass inside being kept cool, this fluctuation may level out - or maybe not, I have never packed the fridge to full capacity. Overall I think I made the right purchase. It's ideal for long road trips, or family camping trips. An affordable 300Wh battery-pack power supply can keep it running for about 12 hours after you've reached your destination. With a bit of wisdom, this will work for you just fine in these kinds of circumstances. ... show more

  • Cheap, quiet compressor cooler
Pattern Name: 16QT
For the price paid (under $100 with coupon), I could not ask for anything more. The unit itself is fairly lightweight, very quiet, and simple to operate. It does take a couple hours for it to really get cold, but that's not an issue for me. Just plug it in before you need it. I did a 16 hour test, setting it at 36F, with 6 water bottles. It will fit 5 water bottles across each row, laying down (16 quart version cooler). Starting at room temp, after 16 hours, I took an accurate digital food thermometer, and tested the water temp. It measured 32.7F. The cooling grid is on the sides of the interior, and this bottle was laying across the bottom. I would imagine food stored near the top of the cooler might measure a degree or two warmer. So, I would call the temperature control reasonably accurate, especially for the price of the unit. It has a Max and Eco mode. The Eco mode slows the compressor down a bit, and takes a bit less power. Once you have the unit pre-cooled, Eco mode should work just fine to keep your items cold. This is the mode I used after pre-cooling it 4 hours during my test. The only gripe I have with the unit is the cooler lid is a bit hard to open. Maybe that's a good thing, as it definitely will not pop open during driving or bouncing around. ... show more

  • Read the instructions...watch a video...
Pattern Name: 16QT
I purchased this single zone 12v cooler to make camping trips easier. I have another 12v 42qt single zone fridge but I only take it when traveling with more people, and it's one or the other, freezer or fridge... This VEVOR 16qt single zone cooler was purchased to be my traveling freezer. I looked at a lot of reviews of people that were not too happy with the temperature management. Guys(and gals), read the instructions. If you want to use the freezer mode and want consistent temperature, don't use eco mode...just my 2c's. Eco mode worked well for regular fridge temps of 34F or so. No complaints. I have tested this little gem in the godawful Florida heat (90's and very high humidity) and I am happy to tell you that it performed very well. I ran it with a Jackery 500 and a 120w portable solar panel. The fridge stayed in the back of my Taco, in the shade (duh!). I ran it on eco mode and it it worked flawlessly. I have also tested it as a freezer (again, in the FL heat and humidity) with same power setup and it did great. Kept my steak and the chicken frozen and the water bottles I used as "fillers" to maximize use of the cold. The bottled water was nice and cold as I took the bottles out during the trip and allowed water to melt for drinking. If you read the dimensions you'll notice that a standard water bottle will have to be on its side, not upright. Minor stuff, stop complaining. Read the description before you buy.... I did notice a fair amount of condensation on the left side (as you face the fridge) by the handle, I suppose there may be a gap in insulation there....no adverse effects, only attention to detail. AND, speaking of handles, it would not have been too difficult to provide tie down points by making the handles hollow so you could run a tie down strap to keep the cooler secure in the back of the truck. I just blocked it with other camp stuff, but it'd be nice. The nice news is that the price has gone down by about $20 since I made my purchase. That makes it an excellent deal on this little gem. For the price, you can't really go wrong. Now let's hope that little compressor lasts. My 2c's, YMMV. Happy trails. ... show more

  • Refrigerate or freeze
Pattern Name: 16QT
This is a great little refrigerator/freezer. One caveat-- the first one I got didn't work and had to be sent back. Swapping was easy and the new one works flawlessly. great for car trips or as an emergency backup. Doesn't hold a lot, but can be ran from a small power pack for several hours. Will definitely freeze items. I would recommend not leaving the lid open long when putting things in or getting out. ... show more
