I bought this 1/2" 75' cable to replace the 3/8" 150' cable in my drum snake (see photo). The old cable would kink when it hit roots, and eventually got tangled beyond repair inside the drum. It's covered in some kind of oily protectant. I've seen reviews where people didn't seem to understand how the wire cage works. You pull the cable out from the center hole. And then you push it back the same way when you're done. No need for some expensive fancy machine. When you pull the cable out it spins several revolutions every revolution of cable that you remove. Plenty of cutter heads to choose from. Would have been five stars had the cage been double or even triple the size. Much easier to handle the cable in a larger cage.

First, the product is nothing like the illustration shows. It's about a third the size. Next, if you are planning to use the snake manually, the cable is backwards in the cage. It seems the manufacturer also sells this to replace cable on powered units so you could use it as it comes and thread it on the power drum. In any case the center of the cage is where you want to strip out the cable. NOT like a line on a fishing reel. Spooling it back into the cage is like cooling a rope. That goes fairly smooth.

The first time I used this cable it bound up so badly in my cable bucket that I LITERALLY had to cut it out in pieces with a cut off disc. I wasnt even locking into the stoppage yet. Just getting it to go through a 2” fitting 40’ down the line twisted it up so badly it was unsalvageable. Do NOT buy this product! I have NEVER seen a sewer cable this lightweight, thin and flimsy!
