For the price, I thought I would give it a shot. I needed a lathe chuck in a pinch for some prototyping and reworking some steel parts for a customer. Make sure you take the jaws off completely and debur them. Lots of sharp edges that weren't deburred from the factory. I machined a plate for bolting the chuck to the mill table. I did get a -.005 deviation on one of the jaws. I had to use a shim to keep the parts flat. I will machine the jaws at a later time. I'll be using this for various sized round parts from the customers and for my prototype parts. This will keep me from having to machine custom soft jaws for the 6" kurt vises. One flaw is the gear smoothness. None at all. It's very clunky when opening and closing the jaws. Lile as if it was full of chips in the gear meshings. Hopefully overtime, it will loosen up. I will purchase another once I get another machine in the shop. Can't beat anything for this price! ... show more
