  • Good buy...but not from Amazon.
I would advise ordering this through a licensed retailer of Ventline, as they are not authorized to be sold through Amazon and Ventline will not, WILL NOT honor warranties through Amazon sellers. Etrailer is a good option and costs the same. I received a unit that had an issue with the fan wobbling and although they were adamant about not giving warranties through Amazon, the product manager went above and beyond to make sure the issue was made right. He said that the units on Amazon are usually rejected units being sold through third party sellers using the ventline name. With that being said, it's a great unit for someone looking for an inexpensive, easy install of a vent fan. I sleep in my VW Bus as I travel the Pan-America. It moved a good amount of air. Not A LOT of air, but enough to cool down my VW bus significantly even when in direct sunlight. My roof is only 3/8" thick and I was able to cut the bottom white bezel in half with a hacksaw to fit it securely. I added a PWM dimmer as well to control the speed. I would recommend this fan, but again, buy from a licensed retailer if you want to maintain a manufacturers warranty. ... show more

  • Fitted straight in
Was a replacement for a rusted out unit, fitted straight in no mods needed

  • Very easily breakable handle and cap. Not brown.
Not brown. Incorrect description. Replaced a very old and broken Ventline vent with this 12v fan version of the same size and design. While I like the minimal footprint, it isn’t hard to tell why it was broken on the bottom and missing the lid on top. There are three major, inexpensive-to-fix flaws with this unit that Ventline has failed to correct in decades of manufacturing. They appear designed to fail: 1.) The handle that opens and closes the cap is very thin and brittle plastic. Imagine a plastic spoon handle, only twice as wide and a bit longer. That’s the closest example I can give of how weak the plastic is. The amount of force required to pull and push it is too great and eventually it HAS to break. Designed to fail. 2.) The worthless foam “seal” around the underside if the lid is the very airy/porous type of foam that deteriorates very quickly in the sun and soaks up moisture like a towel, yet Ventline chose this to seal a “waterproof” vent in a direct-sunlight, roof application. Designed to fail. 3.) Vent cap lost in transit. This is easy enough to fix yourself IF you do this install yourself and know about it, but why the design hasn’t been adjusted is baffling to me. If your installer also doesn’t do it, you’re probably replacing lids every season without a clue why. The screw heads are just big enough to cover the hole edges and hold the vent lid down. There are only two when there should be at least three, preferably four. In the first above-average gust of wind, or sustained heavy winds (as in driving at highway speed in an RV) the lid is going break at the screws and be gone because the contact area of the screw head is so minimal and the force on the cap is so heavy, it just breaks the plastic edge off around the head and the cap flies away, ESPECIALLY if the screws have been tightened too much and compromised the “integrity” of the plastic. This is why you see so many used RV’s with missing vent covers. Designed to fail. TO FIX: You can reinforce the cap by adding a piece or two of duct tape over each hole and poking a hole thru it to insert each screw. This will provide an extra layer of strength to the plastic flange the holes are drilled in. Next, you can add a small washer to each screw to expand the surface area contacted by the screw head and greatly improve the overall wind resistance. Five minute job, seasons of hassle mitigated. ... show more

  • Replaced identical fan in 30 yr old RV
My 30 yr old RV had this exact fan, but it was dirty and didn't work. Bought this as a replacement, and it fit the hole in the roof perfectly. Used Goo Gone adhesive remover to clean up before installing the new one, and also bought a Camco vent installation kit, which had the extra screws and putty I needed. Did need to drill new holes in the roof to install, but that was easy, and I also had to cut the interior ring down one level and cut a new notch for the wiring - not difficult with a sharp mat knife. Put tape on the wire that had been attached to the switch on the original fan to make sure I wired the new one the same way. Bingo, now have a nice clean working extractor fan in the bathroom. It's a little on the noisy side, especially compared to the Maxxair fan in the main cabin, but not unbearable, and it does its job ... show more

  • Okay vent, but won't stay closed
For the most part okay, but mine will not lock in place and stay open or closed. Mine somehow will not stay closed and always seems to want to open up at speed on the freeway.

  • Mostly worth the money. Perfect replacement.
I like that it fit in very well I’m the existing hole. Perfectly matched the drilled holes that were already there from the last, old, unit. Very good replacement to the same, old, unit I removed. It was 23 years old and the plastic fan blade disintegrated into dust. Not as good as a fantastic fan. But it’s also not $300, so you get what you pay for. It did look as if it was an opened item that had been returned. It was not boxed and it had no screws that’s came with it. I used the screws from my old unit. I do wish it had A variable speed knob. And a reverse mode. ... show more

  • Works great,......eh, WAIT a Minute.....No I was right all along.
This was a great find. We actually mounted it sideways on a backdrop versus the top. Works very well. We had a torrential rain and it was left "open" no water got in our vehicle. Nice deal, we leave it open to vent hot air even when the vehicle is just sitting. Looking at possibly getting another one. Update, finally got around to wiring it up and it worked fine.....for about 6 hours, then nothing. Just dead, real dead. UPDATE..Turned out to be it overheated. Left it sit a couple of days plugges it vack in, has been working fine since. Will go ahead with the planned Fantastic Vent install. Did Fantastic fan but kept this one installed works great now! ... show more
