  • A Great Tool for the Beekeeping Arsenal!
As a hobby beekeeper with my stepdad, fighting the good fight against Varroa mites is an area we know we want to do better with. Enter the Varroa Easy Check – a tool that has changed how we monitor these pesky invaders. The ease of use is simply unparalleled. With its easy-to-use design, we can swiftly and reliably sample Varroa infestations, making it a breeze to keep track of mite levels during the year. The design is a simple in its elegance yet incredibly effective. Varroa mites fall through the measuring basket with such ease, turning what used to be a tedious task into a quick count. The built-in measuring cup with molded lines is a thoughtful touch, allowing for precise bee sampling without any guesswork. Being hailed as the #1 mite sampling tool isn't an overstatement. Its accuracy is spot-on, giving us confidence in our beekeeping decisions with how and when to treat for mites. What I particularly appreciate is the versatility in methods – whether it's an alcohol wash, powdered sugar shake, or using a CO2 canister, this tool adapts to my preferred technique seamlessly. (We're still trying to find our preferred method.) In summary, the Varroa Easy Check isn't just a tool; it's an essential ally in our beekeeping arsenal. It’s a must-have for any beekeeper, whether you're managing a backyard hive or have a row of hives. Reliable, efficient, and versatile – it's everything you need to stay on top of Varroa mite management. My Review Criteria: I aim to provide balanced reviews to aid you in making informed purchasing decisions. I rate products honestly based on their performance, quality, and value for money, giving a 5-star only to exceptional items. A 4-star rating signifies great products with minor quirks, while a 3-star rating indicates fair products that might have notable drawbacks. ... show more

  • Easy to Use, Reliable results, Supports 3 different tests
Yes, you do sacrifice a couple/three hundred bees to get your results but remember, this is a necessary test for the good-of-the-hive. If these dang Varroa mites get out of control in your hive the results are a lot worse than the sacrifice of a few hundred bees and your hive will be healthier with multiple (3-4) tests per year. Remember you don't just check one hive but multiple hives and rotate the testing among the hives throughout the season. Bee keeping is more than a hobby. It's important that you look after your hives and insure their health through constant monitoring and taking corrective action when necessary. Your bees depend on you to take care of them and your payback will be a nice supply of your own honey. Protecting against a Varroa mite infestation if paramount to a healthy hive. You can also skip the alcohol wash and use either a powered sugar or CO2 test on the bees with this Varroa Mite Tester. Not being limited to just one test method is desirable so you can do different tests throughout the season on gat better results overall. Good luck and I hope you have a Varroa Mite free season. Enjoy the honey you harvest and enjoy your bees. ... show more

  • Perfect For A Sugar Shake
I got this for a sugar shake, and it will work perfectly. It's not expensive and will work for years to come. I can also pass this down to my kids if they want to become beekeepers.

  • Nice looking product, could use better instructions
Looks like it should and seems to functions as it should (lid easily unscrews and screws back on and the basket fits well inside). The instructions are printed on the box in several languages but could be more detailed. Looks like it should hold up well with use.

  • Effective test for mites, doesn't control mites
We gave this to our son-in-law to use on his bees and he said it works. From our own beekeeping we know that using the alcohol wash method kills bees while the powdered sugar method doesn't so that would be our preferred use for this. If you are new to beekeeping you might think this is a solution but it is an effective way to test for whether you need to treat for mites. An essential tool. ... show more

  • Reliable, simple, and consistent
I gave this to a friend who has more than 50 hives on her property: "Works very well, super easy to use, results are consistent with my mite cards."

  • Nifty and flexible tool that really is a must have for beekeepers.
So excited to pick this up. As a novice getting up to speed with bee maintenance continues to be a challenge and a learning experience. For mites I have just treated and never done a "check". Ive been told this isn't the worse practice but glad to have this highly recommended tool by numerous club members who swear by it. For me, late in the season so I cant say I have fully tested it but did try it out with a few bees to at least have a somewhat educated opinion and this is one slick tool. All the current methods are covered including the non-kill sugar roll so depending on your flavor this covers it. I kind of like going easy on the bees in the early season and later and do a full alcohol in the mid peak season when counts are high. Honestly it's cool having one tool and many options. Simple yet highly convenient and effective. Sure you could save a few bucks with glass jar or the like but this is clean, simple and quite easy to ID mites. Like it and it will be in my full rotation next year. A+ ... show more
