I bought this because my original dash cam was starting to die. It had a good run and I got a good 10+ years out of it, but it was no longer reliable in that sometimes it wouldn't even power on. It was finally time for me to purchase a new one and I figured I might as well splurge a bit especially if I'm going to be using it for another 10+ years. I had read some recommendations from dashcam sites and dashcam subreddits and the brand Vantrue was always popping up so when this showed up in my search results, I took a more detailed look. Everything looked great. Price was good, high resolution cameras, front and back cams, lots of features, and great overall reviews from hundreds of other buyers. I immediately installed this one and have been testing it over the past 2 weeks... and it is EXCELLENT! My original dashcam was rated at 1080p but the actual footage seemed closer to 540-720p, and looked a lot worse when lighting conditions weren't optimal. Basically, it just wasn't clear enough to identify things, especially when it got dark. This new dash cam was a day and night difference. There's not much of a comparison which is expected since my other dashcam is over a decade old. Video quality is noticeably better in the Vantrue, and individual video frames from the video are less blurry compared to my older dashcam, which is an improvement that isn't talked about enough (very important if you need to pull images from a video). I never had a dual cam system before, so this is my first experience with one. But so far, it's been working great. The resolution isn't as good as the front, but it's good enough for the rear. It also captures as a much wider angle than the front. In my lifetime, I've seen a few hit and runs from the person who rear ended another car, so this just gives me another layer of protection. I've always hated the button controls on dashcams. My old one was horrible, in that I could never get to where I want in the menu because of the limited buttons and depending on which screen you're on, the function of the buttons change. This buttons for the vantrue is at least logical, but like other dashcams, they still leave a lot to be desired. But thankfully, there's an app that lets you connect directly to the camera. This makes getting to videos so much easier and is one of the major selling points for me. I've been in accidents where I had trouble pulling up videos on the unit itself to rewatch while on the scene. Never again! There's tons of other features that I haven't played with... and one I'm particularly interested in is the 24/7 park mode (afraid it'll drain my battery). I do want to try to get that enabled in the near future as it pretty much turns the car into a security camera if you're parked in front of your house. Installation-wise, it's pretty straightforward. The dashcam is mounted to the windshield using double sided tape, and you power it using a usb-c cable (so much better than my old micro-usb). The rear camera plugs into another usb-c port that's on the front camera. The provided cord for the rear camera is long to reach a minivan. There's also an included tool to help you tuck the wires underneath the liners in your car for a seamless look. I went slow in my installation and the whole process took me about 30 min. The only con I would probably give it is the double sided sticky tape mount. I prefer a suction cup mount (nothing permanent)... but that's probably more of a preference than a con. The only reason I say this is because my back window is tinted and I didn't want to risk the double sided tape damaging the tint, so I decided to purchase a suction mount separately, then stick the rear cam onto the suction mount. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this product. I am considering a second unit for my wife. She is currently using a small garmin dashcam (it's nice because it doesn't get in the way) but the video quality of that one leaves a lot to be desired.

In 2021 I purchased two Vantrue S1 4K Dash Cams Front and Rear, 1080P Dual GPS Dash Cameras for my two cars. Both of the camera sets are reliable and have worked very well. The videos are clear and very useable. I had the cameras hard wired into each car. The cameras have provided excellent documentation of two near misses involving 18 wheelers while on long cross country trips that would have been invaluable had there been an accident. The S1 is a very good value. I have since purchased (2024) the newer version of the S1, the Vantrue S1 Pro 2.7K Front and Rear 5G WiFi Dual Dash Camera. The S1 Pro has the same high quality video recording. The newer camera offers several upgrades and improvements over the S1, but at a higher price. The S1 Pro cameras are more compact. The front camera is slightly smaller than the S1and the rear camera is quite a bit smaller. The S1 required removal from its windshield mount since it was mounted behind the rear view mirror and to be unplugged from both its power supply and the connection to the rear camera and then plugged into a power supply to reset any changes made from its menus,. The new S1 Pro can now be controlled from The Vantrue Phone App on your phone or by voice control making it much easier to use and the changes can be made with the camera mounted. The menus built into the camera are somewhat confusing to use, but the initial set up and making changes from the app are very clear and straight forward. The S1 Pro also provides for a larger memory card 512gb vs 256gb. The GPS seems to be more accurate on the S1 Pro as well. The Vantrue phone app provides other features, such as a map of your route and downloading the videos to your phone, that would not otherwise be available. In addition to using the cameras as dash cams, I have also used them in our boat to record views from our boat and when I Autocross a classic sports car. When viewed on my computer, the picture quality is excellent. When using the cameras in these ways I use extra windshield mounts and a regular power cable. Vantrue has provided excellent customer support and service. Update After several months of use the camera is operating as expected providing clear videos. The phone app allows for easy operations and the several features that allow easy review of the videos as well as mapping of routes recording. Overall the camera continues to meet all of my expectations.

Vantrue S1 Pro This S1 Pro was purchased to replace the E2 in one of my vehicles (the E2 will go to the vehicle that does not have a dashcam yet). As with other Vantrue products that I own, the Vantrue experience is very premium from unboxing, to the cameras itself, and all the included accessories. On the installation (compared to the E2), the front facing camera is more forgiving as the lens is adjustable (tilt and swivel). The rear is still a pita to be positioned correctly but maybe because I have OCD for symmetry. Before mounting the cameras I updated the cam with the latest firmware (one firmware for the main and one for rear). The main camera can be separated from the GPS base (the part that is secured with an adhesive mounting strip to the windshield) if you decide to do it later. I think the adhesive material is identical on the E2 and it’s super strong (took quite an effort to remove the E2 but I’d rather have that than a dashcam that would fall off the windshield) and the electrostatic sheet is pure magic. It is beyond me how it sticks to glass and holds the weight of the camera. Depending on how it is mounted both E2 and S1 Pro are very discreet but S1 pro definitely looks more blend in with the wedge design. It took time for me to get used to the physical camera control as the buttons are grouped in a circular shaped ring while the menu on the screen is linear. Eventually, I realized at the end of the day that the buttons on the ring are essentially just up, down, left and right buttons. Menu is intuitive and very similar to that of the E2. App is very user friendly and since I am using an old tablet when setting up and downloading footage I got bigger buttons and don’t have to squint much. As with the E2, image quality is excellent. The new Sony sensor definitely delivers; every footage is clear and crisp. Each 3 minute video took about a minute on average to download using wifi. There are 3 things that I think would make the S1 better though. First one would be the resolution for the rear camera. It would be great if the resolution of the rear camera is symmetrical to the main at 2.7k instead of 1080. Second is for the frame rate; would be fantastic if the camera supports 60 instead of 30 FPS. Third might be a nitpick but I wish the included USB C rear camera cable are 90 Degrees (right angle) on both ends instead of just one. Might add complexity to pulling the cable through but will make the install look more elegant. Despite those 3 things I think the S1 pro is still an excellent dashcam and a bargain at the price. Definitely helped with my state of mind with how much worse drivers in my area has become.

Bought this around the new year and had issues right from the beginning. Hardwired it to an "always live" fuse for parking mode but the parking mode never worked properly. It would just continue to record as if the car was on. Contacted support and they said after 5 minutes without motion it should enter parking mode but it would stay on hours after the car was off. Giving up on parking mode, I then connected it to a power-only fuse. The device would power off and back on every minute or so. Sometimes it would go into full on "locked" mode and not record anything. Again contacted customer support who basically said to reset to factory defaults and format the SD card. I did those things but the issue persisted. The hair that broke the camel's back was when I needed a clip but I hit a bump right before it. The camera went to lock the video but there was a 5 second delay and the part I needed wasn't recorded. What good is a dashcam if I can't trust it to preform its most basic function, recording what's in front of you? I bought 2 of these - money thrown away. Stay away from this garbage and get something else.

This is a very good dashcam with a great front 2K camera and a lot of features that you usually find on dashcams costing $100 more. The front camera is everything most people would need - 2K, with the latest (as of August 2024) Sony Starvis 2 sensor. Everything is very sharp and clear - even at night on lighted roads. You can connect your phone to the dashcam via Wifi (on either the 2.4GHz or 5 GHz bands - igonre the ad copy about "5G", they mean Wifi 5 GHz). You have access to all the settings there, so you don't have to use the menus on the dashcam. And it can live broadcast either of the cameras to your phone. The only drawback is that the rear camera is rather basic. Vantrue doesn't say what sensor it is using - maybe the same one as the previous version (the S1). It only shoots in 1K (1080p) and is not great for picking out fine details. That being said, for most people the primary purpose of a rear camera is to record events, not read signs or liscience plates. For that, the S1 Pro rear camera is fine. You might also consider the Viofo A229 Plus - it has the same front camera, but a much better rear one. Since they are often on sale, either one might be cheaper than the other at any given time. If you are willing to spend $100 more, look at the Viofo A229 Pro - you get Starvis 2 cameras in both the front and back. And the front is in 4K HDR.

I have been a vantrue user since 2018. I started out only using the Vantrue N2 Pro and since I really like the quality of the picture inside and outside I decided to try the S1 4k front and rear camera in 2023. I really liked how clear the video was and how easy it was to see little details like license plates. One thing that I think is overlooked is the ability to identify a driver in an accident. For some people it may have occurred where a driver may claim someone else was driving to their insurance and a number of problems could arise. However with the quality and detail the video was able to capture, I avoided a headache and was able to claim 0% fault for an accident that the driver made very difficult to get resolved until I gave my insurance the video. After this incident I purchased 2 more S1 4k front and rear cameras and made sure all of our vehicles had them. As great as they have been, recently while driving, one of the cameras actually went completely black and refused to turn on or record. The sd card was fine I was able to access all the video before the camera failed but it was disappointing to have such a great camera fail. After some thoughts about whether or not to purchase another one, I decided to check what the warranty on the camera was and sure enough I was lucky enough to be 20 days from its expiration. I contacted the customer support and they were very easy to deal with. Most of the conversation was through email but I still believe it was handled in a timely fashion. The customer support gave me a few suggestions to try to see if the camera would reboot or reset however they were unsuccessful. Unfortunately the camera was discontinued but the person that was helping me was able to help me upgrade to the S1 Pro 2.7k with almost no additional cost. This camera has all the best features of the previous generation and now with the ability to view the video on your phone, has made it all the more impressive. I am very happy that the camera is now able to take a 512gb sd card. Too little memory was one of my biggest if not my only concerns with the previous generation. I have test the camera out for a little over a week and the quality as well as the clarity has not diminished but has really improved. It is a really convenient feature that I can download a video directly from the camera to my phone and to top it all the download/ transfer speed is very fast. I strongly recommend Vantrue dash cameras to my family and I plan to give a few to my relatives. Even if you have doubts I believe their warranty claims process was one of the easiest I have ever had to deal with. I strongly recommend the Vantrue S1 Pro but if this is not the camera for you I advise you check out their other cameras as well.

I can’t say enough good things about the this dash cam and the brand in general. This will be the second product we’ve purchased from them (the other one is still going strong!). I was very pleased with how easily hide-able the cords were and how small the camera itself is. Installation really was extremely easy. They’re barely noticeable even though they give you a full picture of what’s happening around your vehicle at all times. I opted for getting the system hardwired in (Best Buy or any car accessory place will do this for a reasonable price) so kids don’t pull on the cord. The front and rear cameras capture everything clearly, even in tricky lighting, which is so reassuring when driving. It’s nice knowing that I can rely on crisp footage if anything were to happen. When I tested the wifi connection to transfer videos to my phone it was super quick and easy. The footage looks smooth too, even with fast-moving traffic, thanks to the 60FPS recording (you do need to select this option over to 50fps preset). The night vision works wonders – everything stays clear, no fuzzy footage after sunset, which several of the dash cams friends of mine purchased have a problem with. You can see how sharp it is even after dark in the photo. The remote live view is a game-changer. It’s so convenient being able to check on my car, whether I’m at home or out running errands. The GPS tagging is another awesome touch, and the voice control makes it super easy to adjust settings while I’m driving – no more fumbling with buttons. Plus, the on at all times parking mode gives me peace of mind knowing that the camera is still working even when I’m not around. I only have a 256gb storage card in, but I might upgrade to a 516 (which it can handle) so I don’t have to worry about running out of space anytime soon. We loved our older model, but the app is another standout feature that really enhances the overall experience. It’s intuitive so you can easily access and manage footage directly from your phone. You can quickly review videos, download clips, or even share them with just a few taps. Overall, the app really complements the dash cam and takes the entire experience to the next level. It’s great, though. High-quality, reliable, and packed with features that really make a difference. It’s a dash cam that goes above and beyond, and I feel so much safer having it in my car.

I'm pleased to report that the results with the S1 Pro dashcam were consistent with my previous positive experiences with this brand. The sensor performs exceptionally well in low-light conditions, which I found quite impressive. The installation was straightforward and took me about a couple of hours, thanks to my previous experience with dash cam setups. I particularly appreciated the use of the static strip on the windshield, which left no glue marks. The length of the cord to the rear camera was more than sufficient. The video quality is customizable, and the built-in GPS sensor, which records speed and location on the video clips, is a fantastic feature. The accompanying app provides great connectivity, allowing for real-time camera feed viewing with smooth video streams. I was able to customize the duration of the clips, and with a 256GB microSD card, I have ample storage for a long time. However, there is one significant drawback: the button layout on the camera is quite frustrating. Unlike the standard left, right, up, down, and center 'OK' button arrangement found on many devices, each button on this dash cam has a unique function that requires checking the screen to remember. For example, the middle button does not function as an 'OK' press to select, which I found quite annoying. Overall, while the camera is excellent, the button layout and menu system improvements would make it even better.
