  • Sturdy and Secure! Quality Product That I'm Happy to Own..
Excellent security case! My wife told me I could keep a gun by the bedside *if* it was locked up. I immediately hit Google to find something appropriate. Due to the style of my night table and location, I felt a "hanging" style vault was the best fit for me. I checked out a few of the brands and styles, and I decided that biometric locks and electronic locks were just not for me... I'm a little old school and prefer a mechanical device. This vault fit the bill nicely and I ordered. The case itself has some good heft to it! It feels solid and is very well constructed. Instructions for changing the combination were *almost* clear cut.. the procedure to change it is perfectly fine, but they didn't really explain *in depth* that you could use ANY combination as long as numbers don't repeat. They do mention no repeats, but they stressed "2 and 3 button" sequences were simple but secure. They should have given examples showing that you could even use TWO 2-button sequences if desired. For example, you could use all 5 numbers in a separate sequence like 5,2,3,1,4. Or maybe just 3,2,1. I think you could even get away with a single number! (tbh, I didn't try that). But you can also use combinations like 1+3+5, or 2+5. Or even a mix like 1, 2+5 AND 3+4. Bottom line is; you can get pretty creative with a combination as long as each number is only used once in the sequence. Anyway... as I mentioned, the case is pretty solid and easy to mount. It does NOT include any mounting hardware, so know your material beforehand and get some washers... the mounting holes are a bit large! My night table's surface is 3/4 inch thick so I went with 3/4 inch wood screws and a washer to mount mine. There are four holes to mount the plate. Once mounted, you line up the tabs on the back part of the plate into the top of the vault and push it back. Now that the back of the vault is secure, lift the front of the vault in line with two threaded holes in the front of the plate and use the two provided thumbscrews to secure from inside the vault. Once the vault door is closed, there is no access to these thumbscrews.. without unscrewing these, the vault can't be slid out of the mounting plate. The vault contains a nice padded shelf that slides out. You can even remove the shelf completely if you need more room or don't want the hassle of a sliding shelf. The shelf itself has metal tabs on it that allows it to slide completely out when pulled out PERFECTLY HORIZONTAL. If you let gravity do its thing when sliding the tray out, the back tabs will NOT slide out but rather act as a stop that allows the tray to dangle out and down at an angle for easy retrieval of the contents. A lip on the edge keeps everything from falling out. Spacewise, this vault's shelf has plenty of space for a CZ-75b 9mm pistol and at least one magazine. Larger firearms might need the shelf removed. I definitely recommend this vault! Solid construction and thoughtful design makes it a great place to store and retrieve a handgun or anything else you want to keep secure and close to you... whether it's medication you need to keep away from minors in the house, or your gold coins from Rosland Capital! As you can see in my pictures, I chose an easy access route rather than deep under the night table. Deeper under would make it undetectable, but require me to drop down to my knees and reach under for access. The way I have it now, I can literally reach and open with one hand while still laying in bed. Bear in mind that the only weak spot in the vault is where you mount it! I understand that if a thief want it, he can rip it off my night table or even take the whole night table. I suspect even a wall mount to a stud can be ripped out with a crowbar. Bottom line is, if someone wants the vault, they are going to get it...Getting it open won't be easy though.. small consolation but it is what it is. ... show more

  • This thing is a brick!
My first impression was when I picked up the box. "This thing is a brick!" I thought to myself. It came very well packaged, but the weight is the unit itself and not the packaging. It's much heavier than what I expected. Pros. It's heavy. Doesn't feel cheap and lightweight. I feel pretty secure that no one will easily break into it. I mounted mine right behind the control panel of my Jarvis sit/stand, so it pretty well blends in with the underside of the desk. I really don't think anyone will notice it even though my desk is in my living room. The buttons stick out quite a ways so are very easy to feel and when pressing them they have a distinct clicking feel so I know I have engaged them. The knob is easy to control. Both these to say I can easily open the safe simply by feel. There are two mounting knobs on the inside top. At first I didn't care for them, but then I noticed when I pull the tray out it tips down and the back side catches on the knobs. This means the contents are more easily presented to my hand. No batteries required, so no corrosion, dead batteries, back up key, etc. Cons Although I like the feel of the click when I press the buttons, I'd prefer it be quieter to hear. It's not exactly loud, but at night when it's quiet I think an intruder could hear it. That's about all I can say as far as a con. This thing is great. One other positive is the customer service. I couldn't get the door to open when I first got it so I called the number listed in the instructions. When I pressed 0 to speak with someone, I got a real person instead of a run around, and she was helpful and friendly. She walked me through how to open the safe and kindly said lots of folks make the same mistake as I had made. Note: Turn the knob left to lock. Turn the knob to your other left to unlock (LOL). She did laugh when I blurted out Oh Idiot at myself when I realized what I had done. Overall, two thumbs up. I'm happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • Great safe, mountable anywhere yet easily disconnects to take along if needed
This is a great safe. The primary thing that attracted me to this safe was the fact that it is a mechanical lock rather than an electronic lock. I've heard too many stories of problems with electronic locks, so we really wanted to avoid them. I've worked in many hospitals that use this type of lock for staff access to intensive care units and other areas and they're always reliable and easy to use. It is a push-button system that you can program to whatever numbers or pattern you desire, and it is easy to set providing you don't lose the instructions. This safe has a mounting plate that you screw onto whatever surface where you intend to locate the safe. The safe then attaches to this plate with notches at the bottom, and screws, that only unscrew from INSIDE the safe, at the top end of the safe. If you needed to take your safe with you somewhere, you just unlock it, unscrew the screws and slide it off the notches - very easy. You can mount this underneath stuff (like a desk or shelf), on top of stuff, or on it's side attaching to the side of something. It comes with a slide out shelf type thing that is meant to help you get your goods out of the safe if you can't, or would rather not, stuff your hand inside to get stuff out. However, this can be completely removed if you don't want it there. I think this slide out takes up a bit too much room and it is just easier for me to not have it in there and stuff my hand inside the safe to pull out my items. The inside has a soft fabric liner so that your items inside aren't scratched or damaged, and I find it easy to reach in and pull out what I need. This is a great safe and I recommend it. ... show more
