Description

America’s best-selling truck bed cover just got even better.Introducing the BAKFlip MX4 Gen 3—the latest evolution of RealTruck’s most popular tonneau cover. Now better than ever, the BAK has redesigned the for improved strength, security, and all-weather performance. The Gen 3 MX4 features alloy-based construction, including heavy-duty aluminum side rails and top panels, reinforced with high-density polymer cores. This updated design delivers a 22 percent increase in strength over the previous generation, making it even more capable of handling daily use, heavy loads, and harsh environments. Security has also been upgraded. BAK’s patented auto-latching system secures the cover automatically when closed. Newly engineered lock components provide added resistance to tampering and forced entry, allowing you to transport your gear with confidence. In rough weather, the Gen 3 MX4 holds strong. Revised EPDM perimeter seals and tight-fit clamps offer the best seal yet, helping prevent water intrusion along the bed rails. A longer dual-action tailgate seal weatherproofs the tailgate while preserving full functionality, whether the cover is open or closed. While the MX4 is built tough, it doesn’t compromise on looks. The flush-mount design gives it a sleek, low-profile appearance, while a textured matte-black finish across all surfaces delivers a clean, subtle aesthetic. Installation is easier than ever with a new click-in rail system that cuts install time by up to 12 percent. Day-to-day use is just as simple—drop the tailgate, unlatch, and fold the cover forward. For complete bed access, fold the cover against the cab without blocking your third brake light. The BAKFlip MX4 Gen 3 is proudly assembled in Missouri using globally sourced materials and backed by a 5-year warranty.

  • Well thought out and looks great on my Ram!
Style: BAKFlip G2 Size: 6' 4" Bed
This was my second Tonneau cover purchase, got a less expensive option for my old Nissan, but wasn't a huge fan of how it aged with some of the plastic bits and how it looked, but it did the trick. For my new truck, I decided to bite the bullet and get the Bakflip G2 after looking at a ton of options, both more and less expensive. It's a nice flush fit with the bed, and everything locks up tight. The rubber seals seem to do the trick so far after a car wash, and routing the drains was easy as my truck has tie down spots. all the hardware is well made and looks like it should hold up well. Also nice and easy to open from either side of the truck with a simple pull of the cable underneath. Install was straightforward, probably took 45 minutes or so including final adjustments and getting the small bits put on. And having almost full access to the bed without removing it was a major factor, as I've had to remove my tonneau cover before when getting loads of gravel or bark, this should be a much improved experience for useability. Given that it's a flush fit, I feel like it's a bit harder for someone to get into than the ones that sit on top. Could it still be broken into? Sure, anything can, but no real easy way to just pop it up casually. Spendy but worth it. ... show more

  • A solid, folding tonneau cover.
Style: BAKFlip MX4 Size: 5' 7" Bed
I did a lot of research before settling on this cover. As with most things, you see people who had problems and people who have had none. Here are my overall observations. * I did get a little water infiltration after a hard rain, but haven't made any adjustments since I installed it, so the leak could be my fault. * Installation is pretty easy. I did it myself in a Ram 1500 crew cab with the 5'7" bed--no RamBox. It maybe took 30 minutes, some of which was spent watching a YouTube installation video. * It looks great. * I love that you can open and close the tailgate with the cover closed. * I've had it in the folded position, going 70mph on the interstate and it held up fine. Only a small bit pokes out from behind the cab of the truck to catch the wind. I will note, though, that had I not had the digital rear view mirror (there's a camera in my third brake light that projects to my mirror) I would not have been able to see through the back window with the cover folded upright. * The cover gets very hot in direct sunlight. I especially found this out during installation. Might want to park in the shade while installing. I can't speak to customer service, etc..., but will try to keep this review updated since this is a high-ticket item and people like me want to get all the information they can before committing. I wasn't sure how to rate the value for the money, but since few of these covers are cheap, it felt like I am getting a well-made product at a cost comparable to other brands. Follow up after several months of use. I've had it parked in and driven during some hard rains and had very minimal to no water infiltration. I will note that when it's parked outside at our house, it is on a slight incline, such that the tailgate is lower than the cab, so that could conceivably make it less likely for water to get into the bed area? The cover continues to perform very well. ... show more

  • 3rd truck, 3rd BakFlip
Style: BAKFlip G2 Size: 5' 7" Bed
This is the 3rd BakFlip I've purchased for one of my trucks, my F-150 was the first to get outfitted with a BakFlip and when the time came to outfit my Ram 2500 it was a no brainer. This past week I traded the F150 for a new 2020 RAM 1500 and again the 1st item purchased was a BakFlip! The install is quite easy, it takes about 30 minutes doing it solo, having someone else onhand only makes mounting the bed rails easier but doesn't make anything faster. Minimal tools required, 1 socket wrench to tighten all 6 bolts and screwdriver for the latches, that's really all you need other than a steady hand to secure the rails to the bed making sure they are totally flat and forward, again this is where another set of hands can help. If you don't read instructions, make sure you attach the strap snaps to the tonneau before you mount the tonneau to your truck bed, it's hard to put the thing together once mounted, also it's best to run the drain lines into the bed before you mount the tonneau and just after you attach the rails, just makes it easier. The tonneau can be installed by 1 person when the time comes, the hardest part is just getting it from the ground and onto the rails, don't open it beyond where it shipped and you'll be able to push it into position. The bolts that secure the tonneau to the rails are best installed top down so you can wrangle the cover front to back and left to right a little to get it into position. When the time comes to secure the bolts to the rail, 2 approaches work, one is to have someone outside pushing down a little while you lay in the truck bed looking up to set the washer and lock washer onto the bolt or you can do it solo, again not hard just easier to have someone there. BE CAREFUL NOT TO OVERTIGHTEN!!! If you overtighten you can easily make the fiberglass cave in and you'll leave a dent that you will regret. Also, spend some time in the bed adjusting the front back so that the cover lines up flush with the truck bed on the INSIDE and clean the surface before you install the 3M foam so that it stays in place. I opted to get a better foam tape from Amazon when I did my 2nd truck and 3rd truck because I knew that a rubber gasket offered a better seal but that's not necessary for most. Finally, once you close the entire tonneau, open it pulling the cord on one side, it should release both sides, if not you may need to adjust the latches (simple screw and alignment) to they are not so far under the rail that you can't open them from only 1 side. Again this is from experience and on my 1500 I had to do this because I found that I could not open the cover that way. A simple 1-minute adjustment and I still have a solid latch but I can open it with 1 hand. These are great covers, we were in a hail storm in South Dakota last year and my 2500 was exposed, oddly enough the only damage was on the tonneau, the truck took 3 small hits which to me are beauty marks, the tonneau got dimpled quite a bit but didn't' need replacing. This was not monster-sized hail, only pellets but none the less, the BakFlip protected all our camping gear. One question I've been asked a number of times does it leak, the simple answer is a little, it's not a 100% perfect seal, I can take it to the car wash and there will be a little water inside but not a puddle. It does a surprisingly great job of keeping water out so if you're ok with a little and I stress a very small amount, you'll be fine with this cover. ... show more

  • It works, need patience and time when installing
Style: BAKFlip MX4 Size: 5' 7" Bed
Well made. Precise fit. Does the job well. Worth the extra cost? Not sure. Yes easy to install once you figure out the directions. The box tells you there are directions with hardware but there isn’t. There’s a card with a bar code that it’s supposed to direct you to the directions online but it doesn’t really. It takes you to their shopping cart. You have to dig around to find the download. They list most other truck brand instruction except RAM so I had to choose something generic. It goes on from there. For the money you spend it should be much more user friendly. Illustrations are tiny and lack import details. They use terminology that assumes you know product intimately already. ... show more
