I really like the look and slim profile of this retractable cover, G30243, on a 2021 RAM Rebel Crew Cab, Maximum Steel. The instructions are poor but the fit is very good once you figure out the install. The canister takes up a bit more room than some others but that's the price for a slim fit. The rear edges don't fit quite as well as I'd like, but in fairness that could be the install. It makes no noise on the road, and does not shake or move. Easy to open and close except, probably, in freezing weather. So far, I give it a 5. I hope that it lasts the life of the truck. ... show more

What a waste! Product came damaged, did not fit the truck, only one lock worked and could be pushed open. Came out of the track while trying to close it. And you might as well throw the instructions away.

This is my second Gator cover.... This time around I decided to go with the gator recoil mainly because of it is aluminum. Overall I'm please with the cover .... BUT... it took 3 times to receive one that wasn't damaged. You may think that being it is a large heavy box that it would be easy to damage during shipment but that wasn't the case. The shipping company did an excellent job and there was no damage to any of the three boxes. On shipment one the end caps were cracked and the rail had a few deep scratches... On shipment 2 it appeared to be an open box and the weather stripping on the main can was cut and the unit was scratched up... So by shipment 3 I was pretty frustrated. It did have a few minor scratches but overall was fine. I love the low profile of the cover on my 2021 Ram 1500 Longhorn and it is very easy to install with 2 people, just follow the instructions they are pretty good. The cover is very stable. Anyone that have messed with these retractable covers knows that the are not 100% waterproof. You will need a tailgate seal kit and I recommend added a 1/4 thick by 1/2 wide weather strip on each inside of the rail right beside the factory strip. If you do that and follow the instructions you should only get a very small amount of water at the tailgate which seems to be normal. Amazon did an excellent job in getting me the replacement covers and sending UPS to pickup the damage units. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! With all that being said I would rate this cover 8/10 minus the problems I had with the first two shipments. Hope this helps someone good luck! ... show more

Ok first I will preface I am an IT guy, not a car guy and I got my first "Big Boy" truck right. I love these retractable covers and thought hey let me check pricing and boy is it wild. You can find them from about $600 to $2000 depending on the build, features and of course...brand. I called Real Truck experts to get a better understanding of what to select as my truck is a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn (new body) right. Great customer service lead me to exactly what I needed, but two options. Gator or Retrax. Rep basically said Gator is in house name (Think Great Value for Walmart) with limited warranty. Retrax is basically Gator rebranded BUT you get a LIFETIME warranty. Thats great right? NO. Its nearly double the price haha, no thanks. So I threw the Gator Recoil G30243 into the cart on Real Truck and thought....I wonder if theres a coupon, so searched google and found that Amazon had it, through Gator's storefront for the same price BUT faster shipping at a $100 off coupon...HECK YES right? Pulled the trigger and today it arrived. I was so excited it was 8pm when it arrived and I couldnt wait to install. BOY was I in for a time. First, the instruction booklet is not that great and there are videos online but so hard to find the exact one for the product. I wish they had a better way to store/show their install videos. Second, dont follow the instructions to a T. Read them, understand the goal and then realize everything really revolves around the two rails and the parts that slide into it. Just build the rail out before installing like it says, it will save you time and headache. Also read the info about install ahead of time because some tools I didnt have. It keeps saying to not over torque more than 5 pounds of pressure...I dont know how much pressure my fingers can get on the provided allen wrench lol. Overall I feel like the build and quality is great. WIth better instructions would be 4 stars. BUT one star off for sure as the bolt in the picture all 4 on the machined part had a little metal bit that stabbed me twice. Not more than a paper cut, but come on folks check your nuts and bolts. Starting with a 2-3 star rating on the difficulty to install and overall quality. My hubs is super great at getting things done, and it required a video, some replays, and extra tools. Overall, if you are looking for something quick to install yourself and this is your first time, be ready for a challenge. Not all of the predrilled holes actually align. Second downfall after install. Is the lack of strength integrity that it has on top. This model is not capable of holding a 160lb person. Positive that it was shipped very quickly. This was a huge factor. Otherwise I would have chosen a different brand that costs $200 more. That quality is important! …Will update again with photos and video. ... show more
