Frequently asked questions

The JoyTutus Truck Tent is designed for user convenience and can typically be set up relatively easily, even if you're new to truck tents. It comes with instructions, and after the initial setup, it gets much easier. Usually, it can be set up within 10-20 minutes depending on your skill level.

The JoyTutus Truck Tent is designed to fit most pickup trucks with a 5.5 to 6-foot bed. However, it's important to check the specific dimensions of your truck bed to ensure a proper fit before purchasing.

The tent is made with waterproof PU2000mm material which means it is highly resistant to rain and should keep you dry in typical wet conditions. Double layering also enhances its water-resistant capabilities.

The JoyTutus Truck Tent is primarily designed for two people. It offers a snug fit for a comfortable sleeping area for two, but it may not have enough space for additional people.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The reviewed tent has garnered high praise for its spacious interior, water resistance during heavy rain, and ability to withstand high winds. Users appreciate the tent's height, with several being able to stand up inside it, and the easy setup after some initial practice. It is also noted that full-sized mattresses fit comfortably inside, adding to the overall positive camping experience.

Pros

  • 🌧️ Excellent water resistance even in heavy rain
  • 🚚 Can be set up while still on a vehicle and driven at low speeds
  • 🏕️ Very spacious interior, allowing for comfortable standing and ample room for a full-sized mattress
  • ⏱️ Setup becomes easy after the first time, with the potential for quick deployment and packing
  • 💨 Stable in high winds

Cons

  • ⚠️ Initial assembly may be tricky with poles seeming too long and at risk of snapping
  • 🛠️ Some users had to modify poles due to length or quality issues
  • 🔧 Poles can be challenging to set up compared to clip-based systems
  • 🧩 Rubber nubs on the straps prone to falling off, posing a scratch risk to vehicles

Should I Buy It?

If you are in need of a durable, spacious tent for truck beds that performs well in adverse weather conditions and value interior space and setup speed after initial learning, this tent comes recommended. However, if you are not comfortable potentially dealing with pole modifications or prefer a more straightforward, clip-based setup system, you might want to consider other options.

  • Easy to set up, even with a bed cover
Color: Gray Orange Size: 5.0 ft, Aluminum rod
Have a 2021 Ford Ranger XLT which has a bed cover. Tent still fits (little offset due to the sides of the cover), and was really easy to set up. Cannot wait to go camping this summer to really put it to the test. I am 51, so not having to crawl on the ground to get into my small tent, or duck to get into my bigger tent will be nice. ... show more

  • Durable and fits well!
Color: Gray Green Size: 5.5-6 ft, Fiberglass rod
Awesome! It fit in my f150 even though it’s meant more so for a 5’ bed. Held up in the rain, but be sure to have extra tarps before you hit the road camping! It also connected well with a party sized tent that extended the overall living space.

  • Exceptional customer service
So I needed ample time to really review this tent! Which shame on me kept me from being able to return it, anyhow lets dig into it! So the tent is overall fairly neat. It was kind of a trial and error thing getting it to set in the bed of my 05 Ram 2500. At first it did not seem to really fit all that well, but positioning and tension on the straps that secure it are crucial and will vary from bed to bed. After finding the sweet spots the tent fit pretty well with minimal issues. The poles that came with the tent were really nice and made of a good quality aluminum. They were however just a bit long which prompted me to shave them down a bit, this was probably the reason the tent had my next issue. During a decent rain the tent does leak a little, not so much to drench you but it does drip a little at the seams, which is why I shaved the rods down, there has not been a rain to test this modification yet. It seemed the treads were just over stretched! Next up was the entrance of the tent, it never seemed to sit flat and made for difficult entry but that aside the tent is rather spacious. This was never really figured out but the tent did take on a little water during the rain, this could have been due to the angle the truck was parked at or due to the rods being too tight and allowing more water in then seen in the drips at the seams. This tent is pretty cool but getting older and having a slightly lifted pickup this thing really isn't the most conventional for long weekends. For getting away for a night it sets up in 15 minutes and tears down in the same time frame, its light and easy to pack, offers great headroom and did a great job in the weather considering the faults I had mentioned just don't forget a step stool unless you are in a low rider lol.... Update 9/14/2014 So without asking I was contacted by customer support, they had gotten touch wanting to know if I wanted a replacement for my tent. I said no that was quite all right I was outside of the return policy and that's not a big deal, however they insisted. After accepting my tank got here within 4 days of talking to them, but I was unable to test it for a few weeks. I just got through with a long-term stay with family at a reunion, and this tent was the only one that I used. I had the same issues before with the truck height but that was nothing to do with the tents fault... As a matter of fact all of my previous issues were solved, almost like the previous tent I received was a fluke. The rods all seemed to fit appropriately and nothing was stressed out, the seams were all nice and tight and the tent laid nicely in the back of my 05 Dodge ram. We had two heavy rainstorms and two light rain storms both of which the 10 did not leak any outside of condensation. Anyone that camps knows that condensation is always an issue especially given this time of year with the cool and the hot. I didn't take any pictures of the final set up like I though I did but it was really nice with tent All spread out and the bed inside of it. There is also a cool little window in the back of the tent, if you have the rear window on your pickup you can pass things though it kind of looks like you can attach it somehow. Kinda neat! All in all after using this tent and knowing that my first product was a Miss ship, and the company was willing to do anything to make sure I had a good product made me want to buy from them again. They have other models of tents I have been looking at and a more than willing to give them another shot. Customer service like that is hard to find, and it really sold me on this company! ... show more

  • Good quality tent
Color: Gray Green with awning Size: 6.5 ft, Aluminum rod
So far I love it! For reference, I have a 2001 chevy silverado and it fit great! It could maybe use like 2 more inches in length between the back and the door to make it easier to lin up everything right, but it works! I had just a couple issues. The pole over the door was tight and one peice on it bent and the pins at the end of the awning poles bend very easily. I'll attach some pictures. This was only a check set up before camping so ill update with any changes after we stay in it! I did add some water proofing spray to the seams, bc I do that to every tent I get. ... show more

  • Update-foyer rod snapped in 30 mph storm; Lacks engineering thoughtfulnes
Color: Gray Green with awning Size: 5.5-6 ft, Aluminum rod
20230831 update: Foyer rod snapped where two sections join together in 25-30 mph thunderstorm. When this occurred, I had already sought shelter in my pickup truck passenger cab having barely returned to the vehicle from visiting the venue and the storm had begun raging, I didn't want to deal with unzipping the tent rear flap and stepping up to get in risking time delay, possible operational snafus, and perhaps personal injury while heavily raining, although I have a trailer hitch bar extension with a separate step plate installed to aid elevated access. Had to use three nylon cords to tie broken rod pieces together so camping trip could continue. The interior stayed dry. Manufacturer is sending a complete set of replacement rods from China ETA about 3 weeks which means Labor Day trip is not happening with this broken tent. So guess what, I am ordering a different manufacturer pickup bed popup tent, automatic opening that can be installed and taken down by one person without having to assemble multiple rods, inserting them, and expanding/opening the tent which can be accomplished by one person but it takes quite a bit of care, practice and time. I did this by myself in 102 Fahrenheit degree temperatures and hot sun for the first time it took about an hour! You could do it quicker with practice, but it is really cumbersome to do it by yourself - and any wind can really interfere with a perfect plan as it did for me. Fortunately maybe, the wind actually blew the tent open from the rear so I didn't have to force the rods to loop/bend so much myself, even having a step ladder to assist with the height (don't assemble on ground first like manufacturer instructinos say, because one person will really have a tough time lifting an erected tent onto the truck bed!) The JoyTutus with all its sectional rods, different lengths and flimsiness of fabric to insert the rods, then erect it, and get the ends into the corner fabric hold loops sounds easy but it really is a bit much for one person who wants to enjoy the trip, not spend 1-2 hour messing with the tent after having driven hours to the destination. Imagine assembling the tent at night! And take down I just left it in a clump in the truck bed because from prior use, couldn't get it to fit back into its carry bag, plus fabric was wet so just let it dry out. It still is laid out drying after a day, haven't even tried to put it back into its carry case. Another storm-damaged pole aside from the foyer was bent not broken probably about a 65 degree bend I am not able to straighten it even by trying to hold it down and stepping on it, certainly can't bend back straight with just bare hands. Guess another reason why manufacturer is sending an entire rod replacement set. I read either in a posted comment, or in the setup instructions that manufacturer will replace one set of rods under warranty. The rods are hollow aluminum with a stretch cord inside holding the pieces together, they are not fiberglass so once bent, very difficult to straighten, and a break occurred in the inner hollow insert sleeve that holds two sections together. I earlier posted this tent lacked a way to hang a ceiling light inside, so this last time I used a paper binder clip to hold the front vent flaps together and so the zipper loop wouldn't open when I hung a light there, which worked for me, but if you need access to your cab rear window, it is bound closed. Having the zipper open means the loop would be closer to the ground and insufficient light spreading throughout the ten. A third item is the fabric where the foyer pole exits its cloth sheath ripped, maybe due to a slight tug when the fabric was wet?! This shocked me, it's not as if I was forcefully removing the rod when taking the tent down. For this reason, I project the useful life of the tent at best 2-3 years and be careful not to tear it more. Original review: Using this tent as I write. Irritatingly lacks an inside roof center loop to hang a light or fan. Front vent zipper closes upwards so anything hung on the handle loop pulls it open. This leaves the vent open for bugs there’s No working Velcro to keep flap shut. Support rods snag easily in sleeve fabric and the multiple rod sections easily pull apart during installation. Inside pockets are sewn in seams where bed rail covers are and pulled taught you can’t easily put or retrieve items from the pockets. Side vents have single one directional closure should have put two handles on the zipper so you can open or close in either direction. Two positive features are 5,5. Foot height and awning. But the awning isn’t large enough to be any more thsn a rain drip deflector not a sun block. Bring a separate tent for sun cover. Had great expectations for this tent but it’s missing thoughtful conveniences. ... show more
