This is a simple filtering system that meets my needs. I have good well water, but it is hard, with a lot of minerals that stop up the coffee maker and humidifiers. It appears that this simple device will keep us from having to tote five gallon containers of water from the store AND save us some money. I don't know if I would drink pond water from it, I guess it depends on how dire the situation is! WHO rates it acceptable to remove bacteria and viruses, but at the low end of the scale for protection for this type of filter. It's great for filtering our well water for the appliances and for drinking and pets though! The buckets aren't heavy duty, but they are great for inside. ... show more

To make it easy to put together, just unscrew the black threaded piece to insert the filter into the bucket. Instructions were awful lol... product is decent. I might replace the plastic spout for a more sturdy one, but this is worth the money

I was able to pack this secure enough to survive airline travel to Cuba. It works quite well. Best of all, backflush is all it needs to regenerate. It would be impossible for my Cuban friends to obtain replacement filters.
