A Time Magazine Invention of the Year winner, the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter contains no chemicals, no batteries and no moving parts to wear out. It features a high flow rate and weighs only 2oz. The ultimate survival tool for hiking, camping, ultralight backpacking, hunting, travel, scouting, and emergency preparedness, its straw design is ideal for purifying water from streams, lakes, ponds and other contaminated sources. No disaster kit or bugout bag is complete without a LifeStraw, an essential component of any prepper gear lineup. Unlike many similar filters on the market today, LifeStraw has met EPA standards for water filtration in independent testing and removes a minimum 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria (>LOG 6 reduction) and 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites (>LOG 3 reduction), filtering to an amazing 0.2 microns and surpassing EPA standards for water filters. LifeStraw has been used around the world under extreme conditions for humanitarian relief, providing clean drinking water in developing communities. The LifeStraw Personal water filtration straw measures 9 x 1 x 1 inches and weighs 0.1 pounds; includes sealed bag for storage in backpack or survival kit. Frequently asked questions

The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter is designed to provide up to 4,000 liters (1,000 gallons) of clean water. The lifespan can vary based on the turbidity and sediment levels of the water you are filtering.

While the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter is very effective at removing bacteria and protozoa, it does not remove viruses. For water sources with known viral contaminants, you should use a water purifier or add a water disinfection step.

After each use, blow out through the LifeStraw to expel dirty water and allow it to dry before storing. Do not store in a sealed container if it is damp to prevent mold growth.

No, the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter is not designed to desalinate water or filter out salt. It should only be used with freshwater sources such as streams, lakes, and rivers.

  • Make sure to buy multiple packages! You will not regret it.
Color: Blue Style: 5 Pack
The media could not be loaded. These come in so handy if you're out on a backpacking trip or a fishing trip or if you're just curious and want to give one a try they are literally Lifesavers and the value for the money is no matter what they can save your life, there are trusted name brand water filter that gives you drinkable water quality, the weight and size are perfect to have in a backpack, a truck, a car, a boat, in a bike pack or whatever. I'm sure you catch my drift the build quality is really good too I have used one of these before just for the sake of seeing if I got sick if I drink some questionable water. I can say with all confidence I did not get sick and in a scenario where there could be an emergency you don't want to be empty-handed when it comes to away to have the ability to drink water and to be safe and knowing your kids would be safe as well and obviously the ability to start a fire in a responsible manner but fire water and shelter are the three most important things in a survival situation. So, Deal or No Deal, Black Friday or Amazon days or whatever buy multiple packs of these so you can give them as gifts or so you can teach your friends and family and kids how to use these as the price point is very fair for something that can literally save your life if you are around a water source and you aren't able to boil it. Hats off to the people who invent this kind of stuff and as an avid Outdoorsman I keep these things in my boat, and my kayak, and my car, and my truck, and in my backpacks and I always make sure my kids have one as well just because! ... show more

  • An amazing personal water filter
Color: Blue Style: 1 Pack
I read a lot of reviews and articles that suggested getting the lifestraw, and I'm glad I followed their advice. My only question at this point is should I get the steel version for our 2nd one, especially as it filters chemicals (i.e., pesticides, metals), has another separate filter, may be even more durable, and helps make the liquids taste better. One of the interesting things I found out about the lifestraw while researching is that it was originally developed to help people in developing nations with local water problems so that they could get clean water while a more permanent solution was found. Awesome - I can't think of a better use for it and would gladly support anyone engaged in such causes. Below are some other great reasons to get it: 1. It's one of the most compact water filters you can find that still does an amazing job 2. It's sturdy/durable 3. It does its job well with a backed up standard of filtering 99+% bacteria, protozoans - it boasts a filtration rate that rivals industrial filtration standards for our own tap water. 4. It does not impose any strange tastes to the water after filtering (although it also does not make crap tasting water more pleasurable to the palate - so be careful what water/liquid you use it on). 5. It filters 1000 liters before replacement is recommended - depending on the person, that's enough water for one person for about 500 days emergency supply. Or about 350 days of camping. It should be noted, though, that if it isn't kept clean and dry, it probably won't last that long. 6. To follow up this last point - if kept clean and dry, it purportedly lasts 5 years (given that you have filtered <1000 L) or indefinitely if you keep it in the bag it comes in without use. This is a very positive aspect of it for use with a first aid kit or an emergency water or food supply. 7. Even with the filter, the flow rate is more than adequate to quench your thirst without feeling like you're struggling to suck it through the straw. I should note, though, that when you first pull on the straw, it will take a couple seconds for the water to come up through unlike your run-of-the mill straw. Cons: Very few in this category but a couple to note nonetheless. 1. This is not meant for water storage - they do make a water bottle version, but no large containers come with or are associated with this. 2. This is not very convenient for drinking from a portable water reservoir or bladder (i.e., camelbak, osprey, etc). So, if you intend to use it camping or hiking, your best bet is to use it on streams and the like. If you have a hard time bending over to get to said water source, this probably isn't the filter for you. 3. Following up on this last point, if you need to filter large quantities (for your family camp site for cooking, etc) this is not what you need. I would recommend getting a gravity filter, iodine tablets, or something similar for that purpose. Overall, very happy with the lifestraw, especially for its price and versatility. It's very useful and brings peace of mind in case of an emergency. ... show more
