I wasn't expecting much from some of the negative reviews but wanted to find out for myself. We moved into a stinky house which we knew the previous owner had two big old dogs, but we shampoo twice hoping for the best. We recently got a puppy that randomly pee inside. Other than that, he have been good at holding it, peeing in his crate pad, or sitting by the slider. This light worked like a charm! It showed stains where I thought they would be! There were some piddle marks from the first week we got the pup but other than that, this light confirms all the old stains from the previous nasty owners! Glad but not happy I got this, if you know what I mean. Ewww! Guess I better feed the piggy to replace carpets some time soon! Heed the warnings though. Placing my hand close to the light you can feel the heat. I would not stare directly into it! ... show more

I adopted a kitten with ringworm. I had no clue the kitten had ringworm until I took it to the vet. I have a house full of animals so ringworm terrified me. Anyway, I've had the same vet for years so she (mostly) trusts my judgement. She showed me how to look for ringworm with a black light and sent me home with some medicine. Since getting rid of ringworm is quite a lengthy process and I have multiple animals to keep an eye on, I ordered this light. It worked great for letting me know when the ringworm was gone! I will admit, we played with it a little, pointing it at random items around the house. I do not recommend this as I realized just how nasty some things are.     • Excellent UV light
This is my first UV light. In doing my research, most lights were too dim requiring you to be on top of the item (carpet, floor, toilet) to see the stain or be in total pitch darkness to work. This light is, as advertised, "super bright" and will light up a larger area in dim light. It also does not require you to be on top of the item to see the stain. You can be standing and will be able to see the problem areas easily. The light is very well constructed and has 100 LED lights causing the head of the flashlight to be larger than most. The negative is that it takes 6 AA batteries, is a larger size and is slightly higher in cost than the competition, but in my opinion, it is worth it for the brightness and operational convenience. I thought I had a clean house until I used this light. Let's just say, I am calling the carpet cleaners and will scrub the bathrooms tomorrow. I highly recommend this UV light. ... show more

We had issues with an outdoor cat that we brought inside, hoping to make him the newest member of the family. He apparently didn't like us as much as we liked him and he showed his dislike by urinating and/or spraying in the room we had him in. After cleaning, and cleaning and more cleaning we could still smell his fury. Ordered this light to help detect where he had left his mark. Light came quickly and as soon as it was dark my daughter was looking to see if she could detect the problem. Yes, his anger lit up nicely and now the house doesn't smell like a barn or worse.     • Like it, but doesn't work on certain types of vinyl flooring
We have a cat issue with random peeing/spraying in places around the house. We have several types of vinyl flooring. On 2 of the floor types, it illuminated all the indentations in the vinyl flooring as having an issue. On the other 2 types of vinyl flooring, it does not illuminate anything. (I cannot speak to whether or not this works effectively on carpet.) With that said, it DOES show an issue on the baseboards where the cats have sprayed. (Note: I've heard that spraying is still possible even after being fixed. I'll be asking the vet about that situation.) The only reason I'm giving this 4-stars is because of the discrepancy with the type of vinyl flooring. Since they offer a money-back guarantee, I would recommend you give it a try as I think my situation may be unique. ... show more

    • Saw the rat pee I was looking for!
This picks up body fluid no problem. We had a rodent problem and was able to trace their path with this (rodents pee with absolutely no control - it's like they don't even care about our carpet, 10 out of 10 would NOT recommend them as houseguests!). Word to the wise...don't shine it at your toilet if you don't want to get a disgusting surprise! You thought you knew how to properly clean until this handy little light came along. I would be VERY interested to take it to a hotel sometime. If you have seen The Office season 3 episode 2 "The Convention" you will know exactly what I'm talking about! ... show more
