On our ranch, we have many shipping containers used from everything from an office to a storage container. Some of the containers are insulated others or not. It obviously gets very hot in the non-insulated shipping containers that are mainly used for storage in the summer in Central Texas. I particularly like this shipping container powered vent because it is solar powered and or powered from an electrical source. Right now the shipping container we are using it in is far from power, so the solar power works perfect with no power and realistically, the ideal time for it to run is when the sun‘s out heating the container. There’s a possibility this container could be used as more of a workshop in which case power will be run out there, and we will also use power to run the fan. I have several shipping containers where the fan is mounted on the roof, which is nice since the heat is at the top of the container however, I worry more about leaks than this on the side of the container and it’s still towards the top. I also have this on the west side of the container to get the sun at the hottest part of the day. This works very well, but you have to remember to ensure that your factory events on your container are not blocked with spray on Insulation, wasps nests, mud dobbers or anything else that would restrict the cool air coming from the outside. I really like this fan since it can be wall mounted and very flexible on the power source. It can be used in many different ways. This fan also moves a good amount of air and actually works well at keeping the container at a reasonable temperature in full sun. I would certainly order this fan again ... show more

This solar vent fan has made a big difference in how tolerable it is to be in my shipping container on a sunny day. Once the hole is cut, it's a fairly easy install. It did need me to install some extra smaller vents at the bottom of the walls to pull in more cooler air and maximize the circulation this fan provides. I installed the fan in the middle of the back wall and added extra vents at the bottoms on the sides closer to the door. The system is well made and appears to be good quality. I did get some silicone to make sure the fan is sealed properly against the shipping container to avoid any leaks. Overall, I feel like a solar fan is a good investment when using a shipping container for storage and this fan has been working very well. ... show more

    • This is a heavy duty / use solar fan kit

I've tried about 5 other solar fan exhaust kits before for our 2 garages (one for cars and one for mowers/yard tools). The previous fan kits were nothing more than a 120mm to 140mm 12v PC PWM fan with a small 2w-5w solar panel for it. They worked but not very good for air movement and they didn't last more than a year at best. Everything was just cheap plastic parts. However, this kit is far from those other kits I've tried in the past. This fan is a legit exhaust fan, fully enclosed in a coated metal housing and with a bug screen built in (none of the previous fan kits had screens at all so I had to make them). The solar panel is still small in size but it's a 10w panel and seems to be pretty good quality itself. The fan looks similar to a kitchen exhaust vent fan, which I would say is a good thing since those are known to pull/push a lot of air in a short amount of time. I've only had this fan kit installed for a few days now but I've noticed that my garage is around 10 degrees cooler when I walk into it at around 3-4pm (normally about the hottest part of the day right now). It's all working great and it was easy to install as well (this will vary depending on where / what you install this into). I know it is sold for "metal shipping containers" but it works very well for my stick built garage (I luckily already had a cutout area for a fan to be installed when we bought this garage and I just swapped out my old fan system for this one). Overall, I'm very impressed with this solar fan kit and I'll report back if I have any issues with it in the nearby future. Also, the instructions seem to say you can also hook this up to AC power. I didn't see anything on my kit suggesting that I could safely do this so I think the instructions are for 2 different models of fans but this one is solar only. ... show more

I installed this container vent fan on a storage container I keep on my property in Southwest Florida, mainly because the heat and humidity inside can get pretty extreme. I wanted something that would help move air without needing constant attention or complicated wiring, and the solar plus AC/DC setup made it flexible for where and how I use it. Once it’s running, it does a solid job of keeping air moving through the container, especially during the day when the solar side is doing most of the work. You can feel the difference in temperature and humidity compared to a sealed-up box. The ability to switch power sources automatically is useful, especially during cloudy stretches or at night when you still want airflow. Installation takes some effort since you’re cutting into the container, but once it’s in place it feels secure and purpose-built. This is a practical upgrade if you’re dealing with heat buildup, moisture, or condensation in a metal container in a climate like Southwest Florida. This shipping container wall vent fan makes working in my shipping container so much more comfortable. It was really easy to install for me but I am a welder. I am used to cutting metal. You will need to do that to install this fan. The option for multiple types of power is great. You can make sure you have ample air flow regardless of cloud coverage or night which is important in the PNW.
