This is a very good quality, versatile pole that it seems the designers thought about (read the description for some of what they thought about) to make it a trustworthy, non-frustrating pole for when it is needed. The telescoping works well, the locks that hold the sections in place work securely, and the cushioned handles on it are nice. The hook that gets screwed into the end is good. If you look at the description photos enough, you’ll see it also comes with the materials to make a loop and I like that idea, but it isn’t clear how the loop would be hooked to the pole. So I am clearly missing something or the instructions on that point could be better, but I can probably figure it out or ask someone…a more experienced boatperson might already know. And, of course, this long pole can be used in other ways, like to get things out of the pool (including helping people, if need be) or to get things off of high-up shelves, etc. Besides having one on a boat or by the pool, I can imagine keeping one in the house or garage to use closed most of the time but it telescopes out so far and stays strong so I’ll feel safe when I do need that length. Excellent. This isn’t super important but in case it helps anyone keep things in perspective…there was one broken bit that looks like a plastic cap that probably goes into the end of the pole closest to the person (since the other side is for the hook!). I can’t imagine how that got broken, but it doesn’t really matter and I’d still recommend this item. What I mean is that I am not worried about it as it is not an important part of the pole and I can put something else in the end of the pole, or cover it with tape, or, actually, I’m not sure it even needs to be covered. No big deal. (If someone was worried, they’d probably send a replacement cap but I’m not sure it’d be worth the effort.) Everything else was topnotch. This is a solid item and I am happy with it.

I'm in the process of moving up to a larger, heavier sailboat and my current boat hook is going to be insufficient. I never thought much about the hook that I'm currently using until I received this new one. Wow, it's twice the size in every way. Larger diameter, longer length, and larger foam grips. Everything about this hook is heavy duty. Completely collapsed, this pole stands at between 5-6' tall and when extended it is incredibly long. Basically, if it was any longer, a person wouldn't be able to hold it out horizontally. Though, the large foam grips do help manage the pole when it is fully extended. The locking mechanisms work well and do not allow the pole to slip. There is also a track within the pole which keeps the individual telescoping pieces from rotating, which could be important if you were trying to manipulate a rope or something overhead or anytime you need leverage in a rotational direction. The pole also included a metal cable and clamps but I'm not quite sure what they are supposed to be used for. The instructions have a typo in the Care and Maintenance section, which looks like it was cut/pasted from another product. That said, it's a boat hook and operation and use is pretty straight forward.

We just acquired a pontoon boat and this pole will be along on every outing. This is well crafted out of aluminum. The locking clamps are a very tough plastic and when locked they hold it securely. Each one of the poles sections has a groove and this feature keeps the sections from unwanted rotation. This is a good size and allows a long reach without being too heavy. This product has a hook that can be removed from the very top threaded section. The thread on the top is very much like the thread on a paint roller. If you have a really tall hall this can be a good secondary use. I am a radio hobbyist and this will also come in handy in erecting a temporary antenna setup. The price seems decent for this easy to use pole. Recommended.

Picking gifts for my son-in-law is usually a challenge, but I hit the jackpot with this boat hook! He loves it.
