Four-inch tile is the most common bathroom tile in the USA but this product may not work with it. The issue with the 4-inch tile is the 3 3/4 inches diameter suction cups fit the first tile perfectly but the second cup does not engage the first verticle tile cleanly. The handle needs to be 1.5 inches longer to reach the center of the second tile. Going diagonally requires an even greater distance between the suction cups. The manufacturer cautions, "...to avoid attaching it to the grout lines." Clearly, that would seem to provide poor suction maintenance. Dimensions are a problem because my "four-inch" tile is actually 4.25" square with a 1/16-inch grout line. Grout lines and tile sizes may be different. Four-inch tile may actually be 4"x 4" or it could be 3.9" x 3.9." Tile 12 x 24 inches is now a very popular bathroom tile in new homes or remodels and these grab bars should work with that tile or with a fiberglass liner. I attached the grab bar to the countertop and it had a solid, comfortable grip. Using the switch lock required a lot of force on and off but maybe that is a good thing. Once locked, the grabber is really held in place. The product is designed and manufactured well. The materials seem perfect for the job from the comfortable handle to the suction cup material. I am very pleased with the product but face crossing the "grout line" issues. I decided to install them anyway and remember that the grab bars are to provide balance and stability not to bare the weight of an entire body. The suction cup that straddled the grout line held even when wet. I recommend the product for smooth walls or smooth tiles bigger than 4 inches so the suction cups can be installed without straddling a grout line.

I have these assist handles in my home and I bought a set to leave at my daughter's house where I baby sit often.. If one suction cup is centered in the old 4 inch tile the other end goes a bit across the next group line and therefore not a strong suction seal... These are great for other size tiles though.

I got these to install in my elderly parents shower. Stupidly, I tested one on my granite counter and like to never got the dang thing off. I tried pulling the little tab on the suction cup and that didn't do jack. I ended up using a spatula to slide under it and break the seal. Warning....do not press it down hard before you try to lever it down. You will probably break the latch or never be able to get it off. Just set it lightly against the surface and then move the lever. You will know if you have it right if it's hard to lever down, but not impossible. Make sure you have it where you want it before you latch it down. These seem extremely sturdy, but obviously wouldn't hold a person's entire weight. These are more for stability and balance. They are also the perfect size to grab onto and fit a hand great. Two of these in a shower is great peace of mind...and thank you for sucking.

We caregive for a relative and will ultimately need to remodel our bathrooms to accommodate more elderly mobility issues, including grab bars. I have been looking for suctions grab bars as a solution in the interim. However, I needed suction bars that claim to work on tile--most only work on nonporous, smooth surfaces, such as marble or glass. Some specifically state they will not work with groutlines. These work without any issue. The spacing was not quite exact as to fit onto a tile squarely, so there is some overlap on the grout. It connected just great. In fact, they create such a strong suction that the plastic locks on each end require great force to lock into place--unless I'm doing it wrong. I have skepticism on how these will wear--I can see them breaking almost immediately if we end up repositioning these often. I am totally impressed with the suction, and sturdiness. I think I saw they claim an 80 lb load limit, but I sorta felt like I maybe could break some tile off if I really wanted to. They are STURDY feeling, which is perfect for what we need. There's a bit of a gap between the white and grey plastic grab handle area that has bad fitment gaps, which can feel rough on your hand, pinch, and I imagine collect grime over time, but I'm honestly looking for something to complain about. It over-delivered on the suction/sturdy factor, so we'll see with time how the wear and tear goes.
