Description

Get Legendary Studio Tones from your Tube Amp — Anywhere, at Any Volume. OX Amp Top Box is a premium reactive load box and guitar recording system that gives you perfectly studio-miked amp sounds from your favorite tube amp. OX lets you play and record your amp in its sweet spots — from huge clean tones and edge-of-breakup to fully cranked — at any volume level, and with mic, room, and speaker cabinet emulations at the turn of a knob. Featuring Universal Audio’s breakthrough Dynamic Speaker Modeling, OX is the first system to accurately emulate speaker drive, breakup, and cone cry — making it the world’s finest speaker attenuator and guitar amp recording solution. With decades of analog hardware engineering expertise, Universal Audio’s dream team of engineers set out to design a reactive load box that retains the tone, dynamics, and feel of your tube amp no matter how much it’s attenuated. The goal was for your tube amp to see OX as an actual speaker — with continuously variable impedance and response — so you don’t lose a drop of tone or playing dynamics. Just plug your tube amp’s speaker output into OX, and then plug OX’s output into your cabinet, and you’ll enjoy your amp’s natural tone like never before. OX is more than a reactive load box, it's a complete Guitar Recording System. OX's front-panel, six-position RIG control allows you to quickly choose from complete setups — including 22 vintage and modern cabinets loaded with iconic speakers from Celestion, Jensen, JBL, and more close mics, ambient room mics, and up to four simultaneous studio effects. OX is also the only guitar recording system to offer a complete selection of expertly placed room mics, giving you the authentic experience of pushing air while recording your cranked amp in a world-class tracking room. Dynamic Speaker Modeling A's groundbreaking Dynamic Speaker Modeling faithfully emulates speaker breakup, drive, and cone cry — an essential ingredient to organic tube amp tones. Using the Speaker Breakup knob in the OX app, you can control the harmonics and sonic complexity that occurs only at certain frequencies and volume levels on various speakers — far beyond a static Impulse Response system — giving you the same sonic phenomenon that occurs with a real speaker cabinet. Most guitar products do digital awkwardly; they’re ugly and hard to understand. The OX software app, on the other hand, offers simple, intuitive control over all of OX’s RIG settings via Wi-Fi — letting you tweak, store and recall hundreds of presets from your iPad, Mac, or Windows 10 computer. You can then save your six favorite sounds onto OX’s front-panel RIG knob for instant recall in the studio or at a gig. OX Amp Top Box also features a front-panel headphone jack for silent practice with your cranked tube amp, and sports a bevy of connections for all kinds of recording and live workflows. S/PDIF RCA and optical TOSLINK digital stereo outputs, as well as balanced TRS stereo line outputs with front panel level control, give you the necessary connections for studio monitors, DAW, or live mixing console inputs. Plus, you can connect any one, two, or three-button footswitch and toggle OX's studio-quality effects on and off.

  • Game changer
Flagship piece of kit all the way around what a game changer for us to guitar guys to be able to record while you’re sitting in the room with your family and not bother anyone and them not bother you and get perfectly sounding guitar recordings with all these different types of amps speakers while you use your amplifier You can set your speakers in another room and change out different speakers to the software for recording and room microphones believable not even speaking of the actual reactive load that allows you to fool your expensive tube head. Thank it has a speaker hooked to it it is a must have. ... show more

  • Amazing
Enough options to not be overbearing. I had one of the other popular boxes and it was to convoluted for me. I’m not a knob fiddler I’m a get to it and play. Well worth the money.

  • Game changer!
This thing sounds amazing right out of the box! It's completely changed the way I record and just can't say enough about it. I'm looking forward to using it in a live setting where I can attenuate my head and run a line out to the mixer. Haven't even begun to play with the onboard effects yet.

  • 12/18 - Still no Windows / Android support - UPDATE 07-09-19 WINDOWS 10 SUPPORT NOW AVAILABLE
December 2018 - still no windows / android support. Unless you have a mac / ipad (iphone doesn't work), then $1.2k is a lot to pay for a power soak. It's a great power soak, but that's all it does if you don't have the Apple gear to go with. I bought this in March 2018 and I'm seriously annoyed at this point. Also worth mentioning no V30s / 1960A or Boogie 4x12 cab emulations, so if you're in to high gain, this is nowhere near good. The UAD marketing guys are doing a great job, but this product is a year in and still not ready for market. OK - UPDATE JULY 19, 2019 - Windows 10 support now available (still no android). App is beautiful and works great. Have to concede that this thing is amazing. Presets - and there are far more of them than anticipated - are really great. Sound is incredible. It's a must have. I would give it 5 stars but I'm still bitter that I had to miss out on the core functionality for 15 months or so given the delay in rolling out Windows support. Oh, and we still need some V30 cabs in the mix. Seems a strange oversight on their part. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed, sounds great!
This thing sounds amazing. My little guitar amp sounds much bigger now (and more expensive). \m/

  • Disappointed
The short, the attenuation feature loses so much fidelity, it's not worth it for the attenuation feature. On top of that, and I don't see this mentioned much, any of the tonal configurations you alter, speaker cabs, room ambiance, reverb, delay...none of that is mixed with the signal sent out of the attenuated speaker output. It's just a dry signal that sounds muddy. I get it for the convenience of recording your tube amp, but that's only where its useful. You can't have a similar sounding recorded signal to your attenuated signal. And for the price, not sure it's worth that. I can't stress enough how bad it is an attenuator. Sounds awful. My 40w tube amp sounds better turned down than it does turned up through the attenuator. ... show more

  • Being used as an attenuator it alters your tone really bad
I tried to use it with EVH 5150 amp (50w) + EVH 5150 2x12 cab. It alters the tone so badly on low to mid "speaker output" settings that the amp sounds really bad, like the cheapest overdrive pedal. Only being set to 5 (which is max) it sounds very close to original, but what's the point of it if I can't use it on lower settings? All these youtube videos praising this device is just plain lies. Instead a cheap 50 bucks volume pedal in effects loop does the trick and the amp sounds good. I haven't tried its cab emulation features. ... show more
