  • Fantastic product!
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
NEW REVIEW AFTER RECIEVING REPLACEMENT: It's works wonderfully. Make sure that your guitar/pedal cords are meant to use a complete bypass before dismissing. It's a low cost product, with one hell of a performance. I'm very pleased; considering the cost. I use to use a Boss Metal Zone pedal in my younger days; and this behringer pedal does exactly what the BOSS could do- at a sincere fraction of the cost. 6/5 stars! **make sure you have compatible equipment; via cords input/output and such, can't stress this enough** So, I had ordered this pedal thinking it would come with the 9v AC power supply cord.. it did not.. So I researched how to open it to access the 9v battery port; and to keep this short- it did not work or turn on. So, I ordered that power supply; hoping it would work that way.. took 17 days to recieve; but it was to no avail. I just received a les paul gibson classic 1960, and was so excited to improve upon my distortion- get back into the metal days.. needless to say I was extremely disappointed. I have requested a return, and am waiting on the new product. Fingers crossed. I will update this review upon receiving and testing out the replacement. ... show more

  • Cheap alternative to the $120 used Boss HM2.
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
This is a good, cheap, alternative to the Boss HM2 -- the infanous effects pedal behind the chainsaw guitar tone of Left Hand Path era Entombed. Is it AS good? No, but it is close. Sound wise you're getting virtually the same tones the real deal would give you. However, the real HM2 is less noisy and the pots are a tad more tweakable. But for the ridiculous difference in price between the two, this is great for someone curious if the HM2 is for them. It can be used as a replacement to, but I'd suggest a gate to clean it up a bit. You want dirty, but not that type. Also, for those who've never tried either and are wondering what makes the HM2 different than other high gain distortions? Well, not a whole lot but it has a unique voicing that colors lower tremelo riffs into sounding thicker than they do with thinner high gain distortions. A lot of low end. Also, there's a really unique sustain with the distortion all the way up. Overall, if you're curious about the real deal - opting for this is intelligent over tracking down the real thing. If you like it, the real deal is more appropriate for a live setting but this will work just as well if you don't mind a hair more hiss. Also, mine came with a box and inserts. Hate not having boxes to my pedals and seen a lot of these came in plastic packaging.. Thankfully not the case with mine. ... show more

  • Sounds great, but very cheap construction.
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
The sound on this is exactly what I expected: the gritty "Swedish chainsaw" sound from the early 90's that bands like Entombed and Dismember used. It sounds almost exactly like the Boss HM-2. I expected it to be plastic at this price but holy hell. BE CAREFUL with these Behringer stomp boxes. I took the bottom plate off looking for the battery and it was literally half the weight of the whole pedal. The battery is underneath the pedal part, and you have to press in on both sides like some DigiTech pedals. I found that to be a poor design choice given the fragility of the item. Overall, this thing is worth the money. If you want that Swedish chainsaw tone, buy one of these and you won't regret it. Buy two of them because why not have a backup for that price? I think this is a great sounding pedal, but I wouldn't bring it on the road without a backup just in case it breaks. This thing won't take a lot of abuse so be careful with it. ... show more

  • Very good pedal for the price, get's the Metal Done with VALUE
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
For the money, this pedal is what it says it is. I'm actually shocked. Yeah it's housing and frame is made of plastic and it doesn't FEEL all that great, but it's still sturdy and can be stomped on a bit. For me, there's no worries at all since I'm playing around with these Behringers on a pedal board experimenting with tones. I'm pleasantly surprised as to the quality of the pedal's function - producing that Metal grinding distortion. It's possible to make it chunky, it's possible to go 80s hairband. Is the best? NO. But does it work and give you what you want? YES. Aside from the build quality, this pedal and so far, others like it from Behringer are 10 outa' 10 for me. I have this guy specifically paired up against a Boss that I have, and it's not only comparable, I actually like the HM300 over the Boss's lower grades. It's better than the Digi Punk I used to have. The output signals is so much more clear than I'd expected. The quality of the tone coming through the same up, in terms of my driver actually throwing the full frequency range, was a lot better with this cheap little guy. The Heavy Distortion pedal from Behringer specially matches up with a DS-1 and just out does the DS-1 in every way but build quality. These are not pedals to get for collecting, they're pedals that give you what you asked for and in today's economy? You couldn't ask for much else. ... show more

  • Unusable. Skip it.
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
Doesn't bypass any audio whatsoever if unplugged... all my other pedals do... also super super noisy even when it's not even engaged... just being in the pedal chain causes the noise floor of your setup to come up to unusable levels. Does the original Boss HM-2 do this too? Hope not... Not to mention this pedal is made of cheap cheap plastic. Pass. ... show more

  • 5 Stars Only Under One Condition
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
I think this pedal is an average to poor distortion pedal if you're just looking for a general distorted heavy metal tone. If I were looking to play hair metal or power metal or any of a large number of other styles, I would rate this as a 2 or a 3 at best. However, I did not buy it to play those styles of metal. I bought it to play old school death metal on my newly acquired Schecter 7-string. I have never played through a Boss HM-2, after which this Behringer pedal is emulated; I have, however, listened to a LOT of bands that recorded using that pedal, and I can say I think this is a very cheap and reasonable way to get your tone into the vicinity of that kind of sound. If you like early Swedish death metal and want to get that sound out of your amp, I think this is the cheapest and one of the best ways to do it. Just hook it into your chain and crank up the Low, Mid, and Distortion knob for a solid buzzsaw guitar sound. For best results, use a tube amp with just a little bit of breakup to push it over the edge into that dirty, nasty, wonderful tone. ... show more

  • One of the most gloriously horrible sounding pedals I've heard
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
First, should know what you're getting into if you buy this thing. AFAIK it's a very close clone of the infamous Boss HM-2 pedal from the 1980s. That was the first pedal I ever owned back in 2000 or so. It sounded unusably awful to me even then, when I could barely play a lick, and it really is terrible for most uses. At the time I just wanted a more normal reasonable distortion tone, so I sold the pedal, which I've always kind of regretted (especially after I started getting into more death metal stuff in the late 2000's). Now the HM-2 has gotten rare and expensive, mostly because it was used by a lot of the Swedish death metal bands in the 90's and 2000's. This Behringer really does seem to be pretty much the same thing though. It's really cheap, but you should still only buy it if it's what you really want. Don't get it if you're looking for a normal, versatile distortion pedal or something that sounds good in any conventional sense. The manual (somewhat hilarously) says you can get the "typical hard rock or heavy metal distortion sounds" from the pedal. That's a lie. The sound here is like something in between a distortion and a fuzz, with a really distinctive, crusty midrange that reminds me a bit of a half-cocked wah pedal. It's scratchy and farty and just completely terrible sounding, but in a way that's potentially useful as a truly creepy/hilarious special effect tone. Imagine you were to stumble on a huge, writhing ball of snakes breeding in a swamp somewhere. Imagine the thick swamp stink, the slurping and slapping of the snakes intertwining and slithering ind an out of the water, the filthy droplets gleaming brown on the scales. Now imagine waking up one night and finding that same thing in your bed with you. Then somehow translate that into a sound and stick it in your earhole. That's kind of what this pedal is. It's pretty sweet. ... show more

  • Great price Ok preformance
Style: HEAVY METAL HM300 Pattern Name: Single Configuration: Guitar Pedal
Good price this is the second time i purchased this peddle. I purchased this peddle to clone the Boss-HM2 because i can't find one at a reasonable price. It has an vintage 80's sound to it but its just not where it should be. I use a BC-Rich Warlock Bronze Series and a Marshal MG-15 and the set up sounds good but not "authentic" i guess you could say. Good peddle for your collection or like me don't want to spend upwards of a hundred dollars for a beat to sh-crap HM-2. ... show more
