  • Good Fire Pit for Price, Needs Additional Protection
This is a decent fire pit for the price. It arrived banged up a little bit, which you can see in the photos, and it feels like it is fairly thin metal. It is lightweight and I highly recommend spraying with high-temp BBQ paint to help prevent any rusting and also to give it a better look. I would also recommend purchasing a cover for it as well. With how cheap the materials are, it will rust very easily if these steps aren't taken. I would give this fire pit five stars if the material wasn't so cheap. I really like the fact that it has an ash tray for easy removal and cleanup. It was pretty easy to put together although some pieces didn't fit quite right and were a little off. Again, this is not a high-end fire pit by any means and these types of things are to be expected. I used this Rust-Oleum 241169 High Heat Ultra Enamel Spray, Black, 12-Ounce BBQ paint, you can find it cheaper at a big box store but make sure you get the semi-gloss paint. I used two cans of this to spray the outside of the top pieces, chimney and top along with the legs. You don't want to spray paint any part of this that will come in direct contact with the flame as it will burn the paint and then you'll have burning paint fumes. I would say I put on four good coats of paint and it looks a lot better and seems to be protected a lot better since we've had some really hard downpours lately and there isn't any rust. I would also recommend getting a heavy duty cover if you really want this thing to last. Here's what I purchased, used, on Amazon, but I purchased the Large version instead of the listed XL version and it fits perfectly. Classic Accessories Veranda by Classic Accessories Veranda Tall Stand Up Fire Pit Cover I've also attached a picture of what it looks like with the cover, forgot to take pictures of it after getting painted. ... show more

  • I wasn't happy with that so a second can was ordered newspaper ...
Well we bought it. Based on reviews and comparing it to a 5 year old Chiminea. I saw the reviews about rust so we bought two cans of Rustolium One can, can put a thin coat on all the parts. I wasn't happy with that so a second can was ordered newspaper and a good air mask and 1/2 hour is all it takes... the second treatment 2-3 days later same thing. Check out frequently bought together,. don't run down to the hardware store - it isn't stocked at most places. I found this out by accident and wasted an hour+. I like the clean out, I like the removable grill (Don't leave it in if you are not cooking.) Assembly without reading is still about a half hour. I wish the rectangle chimney was an additional foot higher. The legs appear to be cast so we plan to use some slates and brick to raise it up - hate bending over. Wish this thing was 10% larger. The important part is that wood doesn't need to be cut in half to fit inside, Split logs will fit unlike most of the stuff on Amazon. I plan to use it for parties and throw wings & drumsticks on it when the wood gets to coals. Yea folks with beer and hungry. Added 2019 It began to rust the first month I had it. Then...the door won't latch. Tiny little latch too. You will need a potholder to latch it back and only after you square it back up again which is difficult when hot. Too bad because it looks great and the concept is great. It's just made very cheap. One good thing though...it lasted 3 years? The bottom grate was the first to go. I cannot recommend this unit. ... show more

  • Great product..temper expectations
4 stars, only because it came with some minor dents and scratches, in the same places as other reviewers photos. Seems as though many will have these slight imperfections as a result of how they are packaged. For $120, we knew we were not going to get a cask iron chimney forged by vikings. It is as advertised. But we did hope for something a bit more substantial in size. It's smaller and shorter than what we were expecting but it was ok BC we added some dry stacked stones around it and it fit into our old pit. (See pics). Overall, works great. Yes, smoke will come out the sides but it's still a significant improvement on firepit of similar build that do not have the chimney. Make sure you have some iron prongs of your choice to be able to maneuver the wood around in there. Delivered faster than estimate. Burned wood in there for hours, throws off great heat when you have 4 or 5 logs in there burning. ... show more

  • I am so much better than you.
Absolute piece of crap. But...it's a fire pit not fine furniture. It holds fire. I bought it used so it's even more beat up and chintzy. I don't have to worry about it. I love it. I painted it w high heat rust preventative paint. Other reviewers said it rusted right away. Well, I showed THEM. I am enjoying little fires in my back yard. I haven't tried the upper grate to grill anything. Standby for updates...hahahaha if you're such a geek that you, not only read these reviews, you come back to check for updates. Hahahaha Update: even after 3 coats of heat resistant name brand anti-rust paint this POS rusted big time after one summer. The people who love this must live in Arizonna. I laugh at myself for buying it. I am relieved at the quality of Chinese metal. Our anti-tank rounds will go thorough their armor like butter. Hooah? ... show more

  • Good chimney but you will need to rust-proof it.
Took the advice of others and sprayed a can of rust proof paint on the firehouse before using. After 2 months in the elements, it still looks as good as new. I put some flat stones underneath and its very steady. I even cooked a few steaks of the grill but be forewarned, the grill grate sits up quite high from the charcoal so you may have to finish the steak on another grill. Either that or use logs or pile the charcoal into a mound if you plan on cooking on this. One more small issue, the door know fell off the grill door and as it's small, I have not been able to locate it. Bottom-line, for the price, it's a nice fireplace and much better in the elements than the metal fire bowls. Just don't forget to use the rust proof paint. ... show more

  • Piece of junk!
On the second use, the bottom burned away so it was just the burning wood on the grate with nothing underneath. Charred my deck to a point that I have to get it repaired. Awful!
