  • Paid for itself on the first trip. :)
The suction mount is so-so. I had to re-stick it occasionally while driving. Mounted down low it would constantly trigger from my adaptive cruise control which is, of course, a little radar mounted behind the grille. Mounting it up high on the windshield fixed that. The Ka-band alerting has incredible range -- so much so that I thought the occasional chirps were false alerts. Well, they weren't, it was a county sheriff WAY ahead of us who turned around at the state line and managed to get me on the way back. But, given the persistence and increasing frequency of the alerts I had already slowed down, and the alert when he hit me with the instant-on let me trim it down to a very minor ticket (under $75) from what would have been... well, let's just say a V12 Mercedes on a nearly deserted road in western Nebraska likes to stretch her legs a bit. It could have been a whole lot worse. Sensitivity is everything they say it is. All the features work, we really have no complaints about it other than the mounting. You have a choice between cheap little bitty suction cups, or a big hulking mount that won't fit up above the rearview where I have a small patch of non-shielded windshield for it to "see" through. All in all, though, it's a win. ... show more

  • Love this little guy!!!
After being a V1 man for 19 years, I decided to try something new and exciting. The V1 is outdated and when I read about the R3 and the reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I've only had it for 2 weeks, but in one word this thing is 'AMAZING'. I can't speak of durability yet and I'm not gonna get into specific band talk like others. I just wanted to say how much I love this thing! Its cool looking, has incredible range, few false alerts, and simply put, it gets the job done. I do miss the arrows the V1 has, but these were often inaccurate. This R3 is everything the V1 isn't: progressive, loaded with features, and small and compact. Splurge and get the R3. You won't be disappointed and it will pay for itself in a very short time. ... show more

  • Fantastic sensitivity!
Used to be a die-hard V1 user many years ago. Bought to have more information about who is using radar close to me and I've been using the unit for about three weeks. Took on a recent road trip thru New England and I could tell which LEO was using radar and who was just parked. Unit was so sensitive it went off LONG before we could even see them. I do recommend going to VortexRadar's website as he has a ton of useful information, as you will need to spend a little time setting this up. After tweaking for my part of the US, I leave it on Highway mode all the time. I still get some false alerts in K band with cars using BSM monitoring, but it isn't often. The benefit is this unit tells you the frequency of the alert so it may be possible to reduce/eliminate with more tweaking. Great value for the money at the $269 I paid for it. The twin suction cups have come off once, and I can't use the larger single cup as my windscreen is too steeply sloped. Would be interested in a better option. Otherwise, great job Uniden! ... show more

  • Really works
I am blown away on how accurate this is! Like all the filters available. Highway detection is excellent! Like how I can mark spots where K Band is always on. Security systems it seems especially with banks. Well worth the money

  • It works and it works well! Worth the investment!
I'm still getting used to/learning to interpret the signals. I get alerts miles away, initially wondering whether it was worth the noise and questioning the accuracy but I have no doubts now. I've learned that the alerts intensity correlates to proximity/strength and I can "see" them get stronger and stronger as I approach the location. Weekly, I'm traveling on US and state highways, going through small towns, so it isn't uncommon for the officer to be gone by the time I finally get to where he/she was. But, I'm driving the same route to/from a very large city so I'm learning "the spots". I have had an alert that started over 3 miles away. The signal would drop out due to topography but progressively got stronger when it reappeared eventually getting "urgent" sounding and I still didn't see the officer.....until I crested a slight rise with a sweeping curve. It also picks up the reflections from the signals being reflected off vehicles going the same direction as me but well behind me. Obviously weaker but I know where they're coming from because I passed the spot and saw the officer. ... show more

  • Oh Your god! This Thing is a Beast!
I haven't had a radar dector in a decade or 2. I asked a friend if he had one or knew of a good one in this day and age. He didn't, but his friend did! He told me it was the Uniden R3. So I bought one after deciding between it or the Radenso XP. Coming from the Cobra 6 band, it's like something out of Star Trek! The range on it is nuts! It will give you a quarter of a mile to up to a miles notice! Sometimes I don't even see the cop ever, it's that good with range. Plenty of time to slow down if you have a lead foot. Good gravy does this thing have settings! The options are crazy, very customizable like it's a Samsung smartphone or something. It's fairly quiet, so I just stay with the defaults. I tried messing with the settings once and it made the thing more chatty so I reset it back to default. Maybe it's just where I live? I run it on highway mode all the time. City mode seems OK too though for the one time I used it. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't come with a USB cable for updating the firmware. Speaking of firmware, mine came with v1.48 and v1.50 is the latest as of this review. I upgraded to v1.50 and it seems like it's way more chatty. 1.50 was supposed to fix some bugs, I think it gave me some instead. Supposedly v1.52 is in the works, hopefully it makes mine as quiet as it was on v1.48 or else I will downgrade back to 1.48 because it let's you do that. Upgrading is kind of a pain because you have to download the installer, install the drivers for the installer, connect it to your PC using a USB cable that you have to buy separately, then run the installer and load the firmware package into it. Whew! Overall it's a great detector for the money! I recommend it and you should too. ... show more
