  • Great Tablet option for kids or adults
Color: Sea Blue
When I received the tablet and took it out of the box, my initial reaction was amazement at the size of the box! I mean, I know that the description says it’s a 10.1, but I guess after handling a device made and sold by this website that one of my children have, and handling this and realizing that it’s also a kid’s tablet, actually seeing and handling it made the reality of the size hit. Out of the box, it comes already in the protective case and with a screen protector already on it after you remove the first protector that they normally put on the screens of electronics. Usually you need to order both of these separately and if you give the device to your kid, you’re hoping they won’t break it before these two items arrive. The tablet itself seems to be very sturdy. The children’s case is thick and I feel confident that this tablet is safe in it. It’s a little bit difficult to put the tablet back in once you remove it. I joked that you almost need a shoe spoon for those who remember those, but I understand that it’s in the name of keeping it safe in the hands of children. It is designed to be for a child or an adult, so removing it from the protective case reveals a fully functional adult version of this tablet. I’m actually impressed with the camera at the price range. I know there are tablets that will put the better camera on the back and a lower quality camera on the front, but both cameras for this tablet are 8 megapixels. I’m also impressed that you can add up to a terabyte of storage! Several tablets will allow you to add storage, but this may be the first that I’ve actually, personally seen that allows so much! It was easy to setup. If you have an existing Google account on a device, you can easily transfer by inputting your username and password. You can also create multiple accounts, so if you want to set it up for a child and an adult that’s possible BUT if your child has a restricted child account with Google and tries to add that account, that’s where we hit a roadblock and were unable to include both, so you’ll have to choose who the account will be for if that’s the case. This doesn’t affect being able to use or access the protected features of the included kid’s app though. The battery size is one of the features that stood out in the specs, but this is where I feel it falls short. When we received it, it was charged in the upper 90’s range. I want to say 96 percent. I intentionally left it unplugged so that I could see how long it would take to deplete the battery. The following evening, after not a whole lot of use, the battery was depleted. I will add here that there is a battery saver mode, which I did not try out, so perhaps that is key to preserving the battery, but I can’t be sure until I try it out. We haven’t had any connectivity issues as far internet connectivity is goes, so that is reliable. It’s also ideal for casual gaming apps. It comes ready for kids with an installed app called Kid’s Park. This app combines learning and fun with the option to subscribe monthly, yearly or for a lifetime for some of the education portions which are locked, but there is a good amount that are not locked and if you purchase the lifetime subscription it’s really not a bad price. The app also has parental controls that allow for time limits , you can block access to apps, control the volume range, create multiple child accounts, keep track of how much time your child is spending in the different areas of the app, whitelist apps, add or restrict websites and few other things so that you can be sure that your kids are as safe as you designate. There is a parental password that is needed to get out of the kid’s app in order to access anything else on the tablet and this gives me peace of mind. Overall, i’m impressed with this tablet and it’s functions and features. At this price range I would recommend it, because I feel it’s a great deal at the price point, not to mention if you catch it with one of their promos. ... show more

  • The Amazon Fire HD10 Killer
Color: Sea Blue
I've had the privilege and honor to purchase and review Umidigi's G1 Kids Tablet for the past few days. It's been a brilliant week with it. I've used it to play basic games, juggle a few apps, enjoy media, and let my niece use it for a day. All I can say, it's been about perfect for its use case. This tablet nails being a kid's tablet. The included case is outstandingly durable and drop proof. We dropped ours from ten feet in the air onto a concrete garage floor and it survived the fall unscathed. The included handle on the case makes it easy to stand the tablet in multiple directions for an array of viewing angles, and is just think enough so even your two-year-old who struggles to carry things can fit their little fingers around it. Then, once your child is done playing whatever child-approved minigame you can pop the tablet out of its case and enjoy its refreshingly comfortable build case-free. This tablet’s back panel is coated in a charcoal-grey color that looks modern and minimalist. Umidigi’s logo is smack-dab in the middle, and its single camera and back flash sit above the back housing and are wrapped in a dazzling crystal-like material. All of it together creates remarkably handsome sub-one-hundred-dollar tablet that definitely looks more premium than its price tag. Flip the thing around to the other side, and a narrow-bordered display takes up a good majority of the front real-estate on the tablet. Centered lengthways (thank you Umidigi, you did it better than Apple does) is a selfie camera, which is enough to get the job done. The top of the tablet is where a 3.5mm audio jack, SD card reader, and charging port all find their home. Round’ the bottom is where your two speakers are located, and on the side are a set of premium feeling power button, and vanilla volume buttons. They’re nicely placed apart from each other, and the power button… oh the power button. It's perfectly sized and has a wonderful grippy texture to note the user that you’re definitely pressing the right button. Then, when you actually pick up the tablet itself, you can be shocked by its perfect weight and heft, and comfortable edges. This is important, for when you’re enjoying books on your choice of app, watching some sort of video content, and everything in between. However, the ergonomics do have a few issues. The speakers sound like an afterthought, the power buttons are mounted too high on the device, the SD card slot isn’t covered and is in the worst position, and there’s no symmetry between the ports on the top. Both cameras are decent enough and get the job done. These however are minor setbacks, especially considering the quality device you’re receiving. When you begin using the device itself, it's got enough RAM for basic tasks, and a decent amount of storage space. Again, if you do run out, the SD card slot is there if you need some more space. After installing Nova Launcher and customizing the living daylights out of it truly feels like something I’ll keep using for a good while. Android 13 L is powerful, light, and efficient, and feels perfect on a device like this. For good measure too, Umidigi includes a Kids Software Interface which is simple enough to use and has a surprising amount of thought and effort put into making it. You can set certainn websites you’d like your child to visit, add child-approved apps (or any app you’d like!) from the Google Play store. Set screen time limits, and much more. Google’s Kids Space comes pre-installed as well if Umidigi’s KidsPark doesn't hit all your needs. To summarize, weather you do have a kid or just need a basic tablet, Umidigi’s G1 Tab gets the job done. And what shocks me still to this day, when comparing it to the ever-popular Amazon Fire HD10 (2023) I still think this is a better tablet. There’s no bloatware, it runs faster, gets more done, and is a genuinely good device. Then, when you look at the price tag, you realize that it's all worth it if you need a media consumption device, and if you got kids, it's better than you could ask for. ... show more
