  • Works flawlessly
I have numerous UNIFI products including Nano, Pro, mesh and mesh pro. The mesh units require you to hook to you lan and go into configuration and select able to work as a MESH which adds time to the deployment. The Beacon is configured out of the box and you literally plug it in and wait a few minutes and shows up in your controller. Select, upgrade, and the rest is done automatically. Mesh to base unit is 1ghz plus (reported, not actual) and download speeds exceed 300mbps on my iPhone 11 Pro. Compare this with the mesh pro a few feet away and it connects 600-800 and download speeds under 200. The mesh pro frequently disconnects, becomes isolated and requires maintenance to work. The Beacon HD works flawlessly. Positive Out of the box configuration simple Mesh connection superb Very fast upload/download Negative Not 360 beam. The unifi website has Antenna Radiation pattern that suggest 360, but clearly not the case. I'm trying to get signal to our patio and placed on the inter wall in our dining room behind a curtain so clean instal, however, very little to no signal using wifi analysis with high ping and downloads that were unusable to stream media. I attached a 1 foot extension cord and angled at wall and was able to achieve 70+ mbps. I'm keeping the unit because I'm so impressed by the clean implementation, but really not addressing my use case and will continue to use the mesh pro. If the mesh pro stayed stable I would be happy, but disconnects, skips heart beat, isolates etc routinely. Beacon externally is challenging because we have weather proof electrical outlets and I'm not convinced it has good weatherproofing. • Expensive but worth it!
I have two AC Pros in the house and needed to fill in a area of the house upstairs that had a weak signal. This device really pulled it all togetther. Took 5-10 minutes to set up - adopt, update, provision. No need to do any configuration on it, as it just joined the existing network seamlessly. But, the real magic is how well it worked. Now i get full bars throughout the house, with the occasional drop of one bar, but even then it usually goes right back to full. Tested speeds in each room and it's consistently fast everywhere. The existing APs work well, but they needed something to pull them together more and round out the coverage. Fantastic! Btw, you can also turn off the light, set it to any color, and/or set the brightness level of it. ... show more

  • Plug and Play simplicity at its finest
Simple plug and play. I have 2 other access pints from Ubiquiti - one on the main flier and one for outside. I was looking to add one in the basement to improve the WiFi signal for my sons gaming. This product fit the bill perfectly. Unlike some of the other Ubiquiti products this was a very simple plug and play. Literally no setup other than deciding which outlet to use. Plug it in and within a couple minutes it's allocated as an access point on you network. Works great and looks good. Only downside is that that outlet now cannot be used so works best when you have an outlet to spare. ... show more

  • Ties right in
I bought this to install at the house next door for my family to bum our internet. It ties into an Unifi Nano AP in my basement that is back-ended with a Dream Machine Pro. This thing is about at its limit but still works well enough for grandma to stream all day on a fire stick and play games on her phone! I was actually surprised at how well it works through my basement concrete wall and across an ally to their house. This is plugged in on the main level of their house. Speeds aren't the best at that range but still works. The ease of use is amazing. I have had one issue where the UDM-Pro restarted and this never connected back in to the network. Figured out that the Beacon needs to be in close proximity to the Nano on initial set up or it doesn't want to play nice. Other than that, Grandma has her own SSID and I get fast roaming for devices when I go to visit! All with seperate VLANs and security. ... show more

  • UniFi has another winner here
Another win from UniFi. Despite my excellent UniFi NanoHD AP’s I had some WiFi dead-spots on my homes second floor attributed to current suboptimal placement. The ideal solution would be to run cat cabling to a room with poor connectivity or install another AP close by. Let’s face it, sometimes you just don’t feel like crawling into the hot attic and drilling holes in your ceiling below. In my scenario I have spray foam insulation in my attic floor so my visibility of electrical wiring is nil and makes me hesitant to drill. So I opted for choice B, purchasing the UniFi BeaconHD. This repeater works well, was easy to install and required only a little trial and error to select the best location. You will get the best result if the beacon is located close enough to the AP wireless link that you have at least 90% signal strength. This will maximize your speed and stability. Overall, 30 minutes of time increased my sons Xbox network speed from 17 mbits/s to 285 with 100% signal strength in his room. ... show more

  • Fixed my dead spot in a large 20+ WAP environment
I have a large 20+ WAP (Wireless Access Point) installation in an office-type setting. Two offices had a weak signal. I would have had to run a 200 foot cable to get a WAP there. Instead I put this in and it works great. Be sure to locate it properly - typically half way between the nearest WAP and where you want stronger signal. This was very easy to install - simply plug into the wall and use the Ubiquiti controller software to set it up. This works best with Ubiquiti wireless access points and their controller software. Note if you can use a wired ubiquity WAP use that first but if not this will get you that extra end of the network. These (all) wireless mesh extenders do run at lower speeds than the wired access points so be aware of that. ... show more
