Truscend’s Ecooda Black Hawk-2 1000 size spinning reel is an ultra-light reel with a shallow spool. The spool is braid line ready. The listing’s specs for this reel are given in metric. Translated to imperial, the line capacity for mono is between 120 yds of 3-pound test to 65 yds of 4-pound test. Using braided line can increase the line test values to between 8 and 10-pound test, with the same lengths given above. The retrieve ratio is 5.3:1. The maximum drag is 6.6-pounds. It is a 9+1 bearing design. The reel also comes with a nice neoprene case. The reel is gorgeous, and casts and retrieves very smoothly. It also has auto-bail and anti-reverse features that work well. I wasn't sure what to expect with this reel, but I have to say that I'm impressed. I have the smaller 1000 size, and my first observation is that this reel is built like a tank. The frame is metal throughout with a really nice matte black coating. This translates to a heavier, but solid feel in hand. The dull gunmetal accents and machined spool look great. The handle/crank is metal and robust. Retrieve is smooth. The bail action feels solid both opening and closing. Auto-trip of the bail while cranking does require a bit of force/momentum to overcome which may be a negative to some. Those who release the bail manually will like the tactile feel/action. The auto reverse switch is easy to actuate with a solid feel. Finally, the drag is very smooth with a nice adjustment curve (i.e. the drag doesn't stack too quickly while turning the adjustment knob). All things considered, this reel is a keeper. ... show more

Very high-quality reel that I put on - what I call- one of my group rods that I have available to anyone going fishing with me. Seems to be a very well-designed reel that operates smoothly and confidently- every cast. I put about 65- maybe 70 yards of 8 lb. braided line on the reel and did a few casts. I really like the reel in rate and how fast and smooth it is. My next test will be out at the river and will ultimately test the drag settings when I land a big catfish- hopefully- and this is surely a very good quality reel. The handle coming separately with the reel- in an excellent storage bag and the ECOODA name on the box was a great surprise that at first, I thought they sent me some kind of an upgraded reel- and found that this is the upgraded reel! Excellent TRUSCEND product- like all their good fishing products! Great find! ... show more

This reel is the tiniest reel I've ever seen, but it's also one of the best made reels I've ever seen. The attention to detail is so incredible, and it spins super smooth - and it comes with a quality neoprene storing case! That's unheard of! The biggest thing is the main shaft is very impressive and robust. It's much larger than one usually sees on reels in this price range. This is a really good indication that this reel is super high quality. The handle is also very strong and well finished - also very unusual in a reel of this size. I have no negatives for this reel - it's, dare I say, perfect! I cannot recommend this reel more! ... show more

The reel I received is very nice. It's supposed to be all metal construction. The weight is very modest for an all metal reel. It is surprisingly lighter than I expected. The 1000 size is perfect for trout and panfish. I have it paired with a 6'6" light rod, with 4 lb fluorocarbon spooled on it. It balances very well with the light rod. The drag is very smooth. For me, a smooth drag is a must for trout. The confusing part is that the drag knob looks nothing like what is advertised. Also, the reel I received is branded as "Ecooda Blackhawk II". Nowhere on the Amazon page did I see this branding. I have another reel by Truscend and it has "Truscend" branding on it. Still a good reel, though. ... show more

I wanted to get a small reel for my new crappie rod and this one was the perfect size. Here are the pros and cons of this reel. Pros: -Smooth -Good drag for its price class -Casts Nicely without fouling up Cons: -Spool depth is kind of shallow and doesn't hold that much line. You can see in the pic, I loaded it to the gills. -Heavy- For a 1000 size reel and in this price class, this reel weighs a lot. It is very solid, and the weight doesn't matter that much on the very long crappie rod I'm using it on, but if you use it on a very short ultralight or an ice fishing rod, you may not like the balance. Not enough line capacity, could be smoother, once I fish it, I will really know and adjust this review accordingly. My fishing equipment is important to me. The price point could be a bit high taking those observations and applying them . Can't wait to try itbout.
