I have bought several catfish specials in 6500 and 7000. The abu 6500 and 7000 are a must have for reeling in big catfish in river currents IMHO. I use 50 lb mono or 65lb braid with mono leader. Typically in santee or carolina rig setup. Casting is a breeze if you set the friction to the weight your tossing, so the spool stops when it hits the water. The cranking power that these reels provide are excellent as well. When I'm in a tournament my Abu 6500 and 7000 reels are in the boat...... These reels also have a host of aftermarket options if you want to go that route, from handles to bearings you can customize these reels. ... show more

I’ve only used this only one weekend so far I spent my Memorial Day weekend in port Arthur tx and fished for three days. I felt like it casted smoothly I was using 40lb braid with a 3 oz egg weight on a Ugly Stik Catfish Special 8 ft MH Rod. Butt I was not lucky enough to hook on to anything but a 12” inch hard head catfish so I don’t know how good the reel works under a load of a bull red or black drum. Oh and in case you are wondering the colors on the rod match that ones on the reel. It looks nice with the orange braid! ... show more

One of my current favorite reels i own, the baitclicker system is handy for the picky eaters and i am able to cast it around 125 yards with ease, along with the long casting it has a smooth recovery and fits like a glove on my Catfish/Carp rod and plan to switch between Muskie and Pike aswell.

Arrived fast and was NIB as advertised no defects that ive detected thus far! Great reel i use 80lbs braided line with 100lb leaders and this reel does great on the river(Missouri, Kansas) first catch on it was a 50lb blue cat off a chunk of grass carp!! Many more to come
