Super smooth reel light weight. I mean come one it’s a Shimano, can never go wrong with them. If you want a great reel for under $200 this is the fish catcher for you. And it’s a DC! In the picture 2 cast into the fishing day and BOOM landed this beautiful hog with the Shimano SLX DC. Love it.

I don’t have a ton of experience fishing with a bait caster but this definitely made the move over from a spinning reel a lot easier it’s still possible to backlash if you don’t set it up properly but if you take the time to adjust the settings for each lure which only takes a couple seconds you’ll have a trouble free experience I love the reel paired with a good rod 10/10 would highly recommend ... show more

Shimano is an incredibly innovative company and they have had many great breakthroughs the last two decades with super well built rods and reels. I have not had a malfunction or usage break on any of the reels I have purchased which my wife would tell you have been quite a few. I purchased a couple of the "DC" version reels and frankly I don't think the advantage is worth the money. The best bait casting reel computer known to man is at the end of your thumb. So the no toro-caca advise is to keep practicing with the standard version and save money. ... show more

This is a lightweight reel that is powerful and sports a very smooth drag. Most people will be attracted to it's breaking system that virtually eliminates backlash giving one more time fishing and less time undoing knots. I highly recommend this reel to a beginner but also useful to people wishing to throw light baits on a conventional set up. ... show more

First got the 250$ version for the price i felt it was too much.. also bought this one feels same works same.. price differance prob just getting better gears than this one .. But if blind folded I bet couldnt tell which was which casts same . Actually i find i get a little more cast distance with this than i did with the 250$ version ... show more

    • 09/2021 Update: Complete garbage! Drag broken after 3 weeks of use.
I am a Pflueger baitcaster guy all the way… that being said, I bought into the hype of the DC casting super far and the cool sound. I don’t like using spinners and I generally like the fight and toughness a baitcaster gives when fishing for bass in heavy cover. I watched a ton of videos and played around with the reel to get the setting right where I like it and feel confident in my casting abilities with this reel. Generally D-2 with a good tension set with a slow drop will give you the best casting without any backlash and hands-free casting. With D-1, it’s like casting a regular cast (thumb/feather as you cast and drop). D-3/D-4 is really for beginners who are learning how to use a caster. Don’t bother if you are experienced and you won’t cast far at all. Overall, depending on what I’m using for a lure and the weight, I can wing this baby and it’s as good as advertised. Worms, it’s not bad of your using weighted but weightless it’s average at best for distance. In conclusion, if you’re like me and you hate spinners and like to use baitcasters for every application, it’s not bad. But if your experienced with baitcaster, I would say this is on par with my rigged up Pflueger Supreme XT (which I do have to feather when I cast). 9/2021 Update: So... the drag just decided to go on this for no reason. I have had more issues with this baitcaster than any other that I have ever owned. Definitely going back to my Pflueger Supreme XT! Maybe, MAYBE if your a novice and you only want to cast using D-4 this is for you, but I prefer to go back to my old setup, which is more reliable. ... show more
