The Van Staal VR series spinning reel, a lighter-weight sibling of the renowned VSX, is fully sealed and robust. Each reel includes a manual bail and a bail-less conversion kit. The latest model boasts a thicker stainless steel main shaft, reducing flex under load, improved waterproof sealing, and a larger drag knob for easier adjustment, even with gloves on. Additionally, left-handed models are now available, indicated by the '1' in their model number (VR51, VR151, VR201).

Arrived ahead of schedule in well-packaged and fit cardboard box. This is the lefty right-handed VR51 variant. Obviously well-made and expensive $500 spinner. Tight tolerances. No play anywhere. Drag appears smooth. Some sharp edges on spool and especially the rod mount. Rotor nut is pitted and scratched out of the box, which leads me to believe product QC is lax.
