Bought the 3 outlet black unit with 2 usb ports to mount on my workbench. My GFCI outlet is under the workbench on the wall and was a pain in the back to use, literally. The unit is well made and heavy duty, perfect for my work area in the garage. Purchase made in 2021. Lately the upper USB was misbehaving, the charge light on my bike lights would go out when using the upper USB port, leading me to think the charge was complete. Not so. Jiggling the USB plug on the port would start the charging again. After swapping USB cords and eliminating weak plugs on the lights as the issue it had to be the USB port at fault. Tripp Lite customer service chat walked me through the process verifying that the upper USB plug was indeed not reliable. This unit has a limited lifetime warranty and Tripp Lite came through and will be sending me a brand new replacement unit within the next 2-3 days. I live in an old house with only a few outlets and they are not located in convenient places. I would have to route my laptop & phone charging cords through my couch cushions to get to an outlet if I wanted to use these items while watching tv, a definite fire hazard. The ledge on the edge of the end table I was planning to clamp this on was too narrow, so I just flipped the strip upside down and clamped it to the bottom of an open shelf. Works! I'm an electrician and OCD about electrical safety. Some people in my family had been using super cheap no-name 6-way adapters hanging halfway out of outlets and causing daily stress on the receptacles to the point of just about needing replacement of the receptacle (not fun with pre-war cloth wiring). So, I went through and trashed anything not name brand and clamped (3) of these to the three end tables. It keeps all the cords of each end table contained to one strip, includes both horizontal and vertical -oriented outlets (handy for older cords with memory to the plastic or odd-shaped power supplies) and even contains a couple lower power USBs. It's amazing just how many things there are nowadays requiring plugging in. Table lamps, qi charging pad, laptop chargers, a cordless phone, Sonos speakers, a clock. It's a lot! To contain it all to one cord per end table and using velcro to wrap individual cords under each table REALLY cleans it up! My only concern is that one reviewer noticed a malfunctioning USB, so, assuming this is an isolated incident and Tripplite lives up to its name, should be fine. I do notice the clamp knobs butt into the side of each table, but this is really just a matter of the depth of the overhang on the table, not a flaw in the product's design. I have purchased Tripp surge protectors in the past, and have found them to be extremely well made. Most importantly, they also have a more believable (aka trustworthy) surge protection capability than almost any other consumer power strip surge protector. I use this Tripp Lite ISOBAR8ULTRA Isobar 8 Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip to supply power to my home office computer and other connected devices, and my review posted to that product provides further background to my decision to first purchase that Tripp product back in 2015. I recently noticed this small desk mountable Tripp Lite 3-outlet surge protector, and am delighted with now having the ability to plug some of my gadgets conveniently to one of these outlets, right on my desk. The review already posted by Ron Wilder gives the technical details and supporting photos for this product, so I will not repeat them here. Surge protectors are products that do provide serious protection to expensive electronic equipment - if you take care to purchase ones that are properly designed and built. To understand the differences between various surge protectors, I recommend checking out the review on the Wirecutter website, where a variety of products are carefully tested and rated. I have to say that this is one of the best power strips I have ever had. One of the greatest features is that the two bigger outlets are turned 180 degrees so that your big plugs don't take up the whole strip. The next best feature is the clamps. Usually I have to just let the power strip hang on the floor, or spend a crazy amount of time and effort trying to get the micro holes to line up with screws that have to have heads that need to be so small that it makes the whole ordeal not worth my time. The clamps have nice size knobs and are easy to work with. The next great feature on this power bar is the real reason I bought it and that is the USB ports. It comes with two. I have a USB speaker bar and it was powered by my computers USB. Normally I would just leave it plugged into my computer, but the rub was that somehow the speaker bar was picking up a ground loop in my computer through the USB port and you could hear every little noise the computer made. If I made any movement on my screen you could hear all the little electronic noises from it. I tried everything in the book to get it to stop with no fix. In the end I found out that I simply needed to remove the power input to something that was not powered by the computer power supply and walla, no more ground loop noise. It's got nice fault and power lights on the end that are easy to see and the cord was longer than I needed. This power strip seems well built and should last quite awhile.
