  • Great starter or intermediate printer
The media could not be loaded. This is a pretty good printer for someone who wants to get into 3D printing or has some experience. However, this is not something you can just take out of the box, put together, and start printing if you have no experience as it does take some initial calibration steps to get it working well. This is my 4th personal printer and I've also been 3D printing for 8 working in labs, so while I do think someone new to 3D printing could use this printer, it would take some initial learning. I've really been impressed with the Creality brand of printers, they come with the important parts assembled in the box (belts, bed, hot end, etc.) and all the user has to do is pretty much bolt the axis together. I got this Ender 5 because of it's design, the Ender 3 is a good printer too but the box design of the Ender 5 definitely gives it more rigidity for nicer prints at higher speeds. I did have to print some bed supports and wire supports to give the printer overall some more longevity, but I think that's part of the experience of having an Ender, they're a really good value and you get to design or download upgrades and customizations. The biggest upgrade I recommend is the build plate, you really need a spring steel and PEI build plate in my opinion. The first print I did on this was the little puppy that was preloaded on the included SD card. The very first print failed about at 85% done by coming off the build plate so I had to do some minor bed leveling as well as raise the bed temp and the next print came out really well and I was impressed. I do find the Creality slicer to be a bit dated, but it's fast and its lightweight so if you have a really simple part and don't care too much about the slicing, it's perfect for that. The next best option for a free slicer is the PrusaSlicer, it comes with an optimized Ender5 profile and there's tons of different options and features if you want to get into the more nitty gritty stuff. Overall, it's been a good printer so far after 50 or so hours of printing and I plan for it to be my main printer, at least until I get something newer. I do have a Creality CR-30 print mill on the way so with this printer and that one, I should be able to make just about anything I please. Pros: - good value - rigid boxy frame - easy to use - consistent prints - reliable to run overnight - major parts pre-assembled - massive fan base / community for enders Cons: - the included flexible build plate - fans are slightly noisy while running - bed needs more support (supports are easy to print) - could use a cable management trac or something included ... show more

  • Absolutely great
I received this printer about 2 to 3 days after ordering and I am blown away with the quality of not only the prints it puts out but also the printer itself. Took about an hour to build set up and level smooth easy set up. Extras that are included are a role of filament that lasted many large prints, 3 included print files such as a dog, cat, and a pig loaded onto a SD card with a USB adapter to plug into a desktop or laptop, tools also came with as well as some extra hardware such as bolts. Can print rather large pieces and does it elegant. For the price tag of only $400 it is hard to beat. This printer includes a warranty but with the quality of the components and box the warranty will never be needed. Too many things to compliment about the machine and no complaints absolutely love it. I may even pick up another one because of this great experience I had with this manufacturer. • Buy from Creality only.
Obsolete main board and controller, replacement printer had same problems.

  • Not for beginners
Needs better initial set up from factory. I had to do a lot of changes with the axis offset to get it to work correctly.

  • Decent but issues
For the most part it works decently, every now and then it has issues that I have a hard time explaining. My biggest issue has been printing multiple objects at once(2 chess pieces queen and king) they print fine on their own but when I try doing more than one it wants to mess up near the top of the model (at first excessive stringing but I fixed with retraction settings, still doesn’t do multiple objects at once consistently). I’ve printed fine with pla(found I need the bed at 70, 60 it would inconsistently have 1rst layer issues. Abs I’ve been able to get but need to crank the bed to 110. While the filament sensor is nice I found it needs to be aligned almost perfectly otherwise it will shave the filament until it breaks on the wrong side making it think it still has filament. One thing I’m not sure of (still fairly new) is bed leveling. I’ll move it to the posts(as close as I can to the adjustment wheels) and get it almost perfect, but between those points the nozzle seems further from the bed(no contact with paper at all), not sure if it’s warped or if that’s how it is supposed to be ... show more

  • Upgrade complications due to manufacturers
The ability to upgrade was made way harder because who ever built this used excessive amounts of hot glue on the motherboard and connectors making it extremely difficult to unplung and add in different connection upgrades or new features due to lack of access from the glue. Also had to add lots of upgrades to get a smooth print like a new bed for the print to lay evenly. ... show more
