  • BUYER BEWARE!!! This is NOT the same ...
BUYER BEWARE!!! This is NOT the same product you will find reviews for on PCMag, etc. I recently received a "version 2" AC2600 router that does not include Streamboost QoS, has only one USB 3.0 port, and there is no switch to turn off the front panel LeDs. The version 2 is less capable for the same price, I suggest you look elsewhere if the missing features are important to you. ... show more

  • Be Aware - This is Version 2 of the TEW-827DRU Router (PCMag Reviewed Version 1).
I thought I was getting the router reviewed by PC Magazine and given their "Editors' Choice for midrange routers" in their "Best Wireless Routers for 2020." *** But it's not. *** The TEW-827DRU router I received is lacking features that I saw in the PCMag review. So I did some investigating. I now know that the PCMag review was of "Version v1.0R" of the TEW-827DRU router. That version is discontinued, and I got a Version v2.0R unit. Here's what v2 is lacking: it does not have StreamBoost™, no WiFi On/Off button, no LED On/Off button and only one USB 3.0 port. While I had noticed that the main description of the TEW-827DRU router in Amazon said there is only 1 USB port, I thought it was a typo because the description in the "Product Information" section (see attached photo) says there are 2 USB ports and the PCMag review also mentioned that there are two USB ports. [Amazon and TRENDnet, you need to fix the wording of the Product Information section - it's misleading at best, false advertising at worst.] Then I realized that the product photos provided by Amazon do not include a photo of the back of the router! A suspicious person might believe that the lack of a back-side photo was intentional in order to let the unwary believe that they are getting the router reviewed by PCMag. See the attached photos, the difference between v1 and v2 are clear. Version 2 of the TEW-827DRU router is a cost-reduced product. One less USB port, no On/Off switches and wiring for LED lights and WiFi functions and no StreamBoost™. But what else was removed or cost-reduced that is not as evident? I sure hope that the functionality of the unit was not lessened (other than not getting StreamBoost™). I'm only giving this router a 1-star rating because I did not get the product that I expected. Further, I wonder how badly downgraded the capabilities of this router are from what I read in the PCMag review. I guess only some time will tell. I sure hope that Amazon and TRENDnet will correct the wording of this product and at least add a photo of the backside of the router so other customers won't be misled. ... show more

  • I got two and both had different issues
There's a reason this router is so much cheaper than the competition. The first one I had was a complete dud and had issues after 3 days. The wifi started randomly turning off yet Ethernet would still work. After rebooting the 2.4 ghz would come back most of the time but sometimes the 5ghz would not and I would have to just keep rebooting it till it would. To top it off this problem started happening more often after the first week to the point that the wifi would turn off after 30 seconds of a reboot. It became unusable so I returned it for another. The second one was a little better. It didn't start having issues till about 1 week in. The wifi never turns off but it might as well because it won't communicate and webpages won't load and just like before rebooting doesn't fix it but at least this one will start working again a few hours later. To me this is unusable too so this one will be going back. Performance: When it did work I did do some testing compared to the old Netgear ac1750 I got used for $75 3 years ago(Very very cheap now) because I now live in a much larger 2 story home with roommates all connected to 300 Mbps internet. This new Trendnet AC2600 does have better performance but not by much. Up close they were the same speed(I'm probably not able to max out the speed of the router). But 1 floor away I have the same speed (around 40 Mbps on 5ghz) which was very disappointing. Conclusion: Coming from an old high end router that ran on DD-WRT(custom firmware) that never once need a reboot or never once dropped a connection I was disappointed that a new router would not perform any better while being far less stable. Stay away from this, it can claim all of these features but what good are they if the device dies so often. ... show more

  • This router is junk. J-U-N-K
What junk! Been in IT almost 30 years. Got this router to replace ancient Linksys. New router set up just fine. But USB connected HDD lost permissions when router was rebooted. Tried to get help from tech support. Joke. Got another from Amazon as replacement. Same issue with USB. Tried several drives, and fixed storage. Same issue. I have Android, Mac and Windows on my network. All machines reported same issue. Flashed firmware twice, just to be sure. No improvement. Did complete network shutdown and restore in order, starting with ISP modem going to router then to bridge then to machines. When everything came up, USB function did not work, period. No USB led, nothing. This replacement going back as well. Spent way, way too much time on this junk and won't touch Trendnet again. Worth repeating: Trendnet = junk. ... show more
