Description

The MC220L is a media converter designed to convert 1000BASE-SX/LX/LH fiber to 1000Base-T copper media or vice versa. Designed under IEEE802.3ab 1000Base-T and IEEE802.3z 1000Base-SX/LX/LH standards, the MC220L is designed for use with multi-mode/single-mode fiber cable utilizing the SC/LC-Type connector. It works at 850nm on both transmitting and receiving data when adopting multi- mode fiber and 1310nm on both transmitting and receiving data when adopting single-mode. Other features of this module include the ability to be used as a stand alone device (no chassis required) or with TP-LINK's 19"system chassis, Auto MDI/MDI-X for TX port, and front panel status LEDs. The MC220L will transmit at extended fiber optic distances utilizing multi-mode fiber up to 0.55 kilometers(0.342 miles) and 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) when utilizing single-mode fiber. • Easy to install and does its job
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
I have a detached garage with an upstairs apartment where I work from home. It has been connected with a CAT5e Ethernet cable but has been attracting lightning causing several strikes too close for comfort and causing 2-3 instances of damaged devices. I replaced that cable with a fiber cable and needed this media converter on each end to get back to copper Ethernet cable. This media converter was very easy and quick to install on my walls using typical wall anchors. The photos of the product don’t show it but there are screw slot holes on the back of the converter for mounting, so if you’re wondering like I was, there you go. I didn’t read the instructions. No need to. It’s a simple device doing a simple job. It lit up my fiber cable and worked perfect for my need. Now, only time will tell how long it lives before failure. It could last longer than me, or could fail at any time. No way to review that aspect without coming back in 2-5 years. I used 1Gb SX SFP’s by TP link on each converter to ensure compatibility. Both converter and SFP’s were packaged well and arrived quickly. Happy with the apparent quality of both. ... show more

  • Stable with no packet loss or reboots needed
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
Installed these for a security camera too long for a copper pull. These have been working without needing a reboot for months

  • I am getting into fiber for the home network... It's so easy!
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
This is an incredibly easy way to get into fiber for your home network. It's all PnP. Not bubbles, no troubles. The converter is well-made and durable. Be careful choosing your transceiver module. It must match your fiber connector type and mode (single or multi). Pretty much - that's it! This comes with the DC adapter and the leads are not long, so plan ahead. ... show more

  • Worked for my application. Very easy to use.
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
I am using this to "extend" a copper connection between buildings. Works as intended taking a copper connection from my device, running via fiber to another building, then back to copper to connect to a switch. While these converters could handle connecting two switches that is not what I needed. I wish I would have thought of this earlier, spent a couple hours trying to configure a VLAN to handle the traffic over switches with fiber connections, but the device was not able to negotiate the VLAN. These did the trick with no configuration needed. ... show more

  • Cheap and easy
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
I always seem to have a mismatch of fiber and copper ports and cables. This easily solves that problem.

  • Solid device but does not propagate link state
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
Solid device. Performs well. Works with every SFP I tried. Allows you to use auto-negotiation or force speed and duplex. Unfortunately this converter seems to have been implemented as a two port switch and does not correctly propagate link state. In other words- you can plug in a cable to the RJ45 and your device will see the link as up even if the fiber connection is down (or missing entirely). That makes it useless for someone who wants to track interface state with HSRP/VRRP or who wants BGP to fail over as soon as the link drops instead of having to wait for the BGP timers to expire. As an alternative you should consider the TRENDnet TFC-1000MGA or TFC-1000MGB instead. Both of these devices correctly relay link state from copper to fiber and vice versa. If the fiber is down- the copper interface will be down. If the copper is down- the fiber interface will be down. ... show more

  • Great for a run that needs fiber!
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
These units were perfect for a run we had to do that was about 50 ft but fed along a ton of utility power lines. A regular ethernet patch was just getting too much electrical interference due to lack of spacing from the power lines in the home. They do get warm but they're not hot, which is great as they are fanless, also a plus. ... show more

  • Works great
Style: SFP to RJ45 Media Converter
This media converter works great and you can't beat the price. I've been using it a few months as part of a link between my house and a POE switch in my workshop. I haven't had any problems and it has proved to be much more reliable than a Wifi connection using an extender. I'm very satisfied and I will buy this same product again. ... show more
