  • major drop in speed
I have a cable modem connected to a cable in the basement for the sake of getting the best wireless signal down there where I work and have a game console. However, its signal did not reach well to the 1st or 2nd floors and not at all to the back patio behind a brick wall. I scoured a lot of lists of best wireless network extenders and finally picked this TPLink as one of the most favorably reviewed. Now came the test of experience.... I would say that the TPLink's plus point is that devices would switch to its wireless network automatically when they moved closer to it away from the basement modem. The con is that the speed dropped from 300 Mbps to about 10. Its signal did not penetrate a brick wall even to a device right on the other side of it. So I could not sit out there with a wireless speaker connected to the home network via the TPLink extender, which had been my main purpose in buying it. ... show more

  • Cannot encrypt guest networks
Pros: I was able to get 200mbps from a wired connection to my 5.8ghz wireless network. The device does support Openwrt for some hardware revisions. Cons: The device configuration is very basic and does not allow you to change the password for repeated wireless networks. I planned on using this device to take hotspot, login to the portal, and rebroadcast the wifi using a password. Something the ac750 travel router from the same brand can do. This version will NOT work to do this. It rebroadcasts as an open network and anyone can access the network as you. It is also impossible to change WAN mac address which may be needed depending on the open hotspot. Two very critical features this version is missing, while the travel router can. I'm very disappointed in this product. ... show more

  • I was a sceptic
It works! Router is in the Den on the main floor. The TV I was having a problem with is downstairs. Router couldn't penetrate the wall and floor well enough to avoid buffering from time to time. Problem solved! I was able to watch Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 with no problem! Actually, that is the main reason I bought the Extender! To watch that show. I know, how sad is that! But it worked! ... show more
