  • Device is Ok. Packaging and instructions not so much.
I felt the device did what I wanted and setup was not hard. This is a true repeater as it will clone your SSID and password from your router and there will only be a single wireless network showing in the overlap zones. My issue was getting from the top corner of a two story house to the other side of the basement. My last gen FIOS router with antennas could do the job. My new improved FIOS modem/router that was forced on me by Verizon for $150 without antennas could not. But enough of my bitterness. Here is what I didn't like. First was the packaging. It was designed by an idiot. You peel off shrinkwrap and discover that it is a slide off cover. You think "this is classy, like an iPhone". So you hold the product upright (according to the labeling) and slide the cover off vertically. Then the product drops out and hits the floor. Because unlike an iPhone, they don't actually put the box cover on in the same direction that the product is lying inside and nothing inside secures the product. No twist tie, no friction fit. Just right on the floor. Fortunately I was over carpet and this thing seems pretty well made so no damage done. Next issue: connect with WPS. Now to their credit, in small print it says that some ISPs disable WPS. What they should have said is how to tell when it actually connects and works. It says it will be a solid blue light. Well, I got a solid blue light but it never set up with WPS so it was a secondary network instead of a repeater. So, bad instructions. So for you FIOS customers with the crappy new expensive routers: you need to enable WPS first on the router that has the WPS button front and center (more bitterness with Verizon). It is probably easier to use the primary setup method in the instructions that involves a PC. So I did that. Next problem: they say connect to the device's network and go to the admin page of http://tplinkrepeater.net. So I am thinking; how does my computer know where http://tplinkrepeater.net is without me editing the hostnames file. But I figured I am not a networking guru so what the heck. I was right. It had no idea what that address was. I can't even figure out why they printed it in the directions. So I did what I knew I should have and typed in the TCP/IP address which worked. For those wondering why I tried something I suspected wouldn't work: you try remembering tplinkrepeater.net vs a TCP/IP address. I went for the easy one. I then proceeded through a very nicely written UI that cloned my router's SSID and password with little input on my part. Last issue and this is a big one: the instructions say put the device halfway between your dead zone and the router. That is NOT good advice. I did that and ran a speed test. My 50 mpbs connection was down to 10 mbps. I tried putting the device closer to my router and it was even worse. Then I tried putting the device right next to my dead zone where I was getting a sporadic 1 bar on my iPhone. I got a respectable 35 down and up. Problem solved. So that leads me to believe that the antennas are for picking up signal rather than broadcasting it. This is the opposite of how a router works but I am actually quite happy that it works that way since sticking this bulky thing in an outlet in my foyer wasn't the best of ideas. Now it is out of the way in the basement. Conclusion: good hardware, good software, bad packaging, bad instructions. Somewhere, there are engineers crying. ... show more

  • Good Choice
This WiFi signal extender works well in my house. Great choice.

  • Great for extra Wi-Fi coverage throughout the house
I decided to purchase this based on the product description and other positive reviews that I read. Also the price was very affordable. My router is based upstairs next to my Server and Desktop PC as both of those are connected wired directly to the main router. I was getting spotty coverage throughout the lower half of my house due to where my router is located. I was looking for an inexpensive way to extend my coverage and found the TP-Link | AC1200 WiFi Range Extender. The initial setup only took a few minutes following the directions. You can use the same SSID as your router, so it doesn't need a separate network. However, you can set it up that way if you wanted to create say a Wireless Guest-Network for family and friends to connect to when visiting. After setting it up I was impressed at the speed tests I ran in the lower sections of my house compared to before. I've had this setup for a few months now and I have no complaints. If your looking to just extend your Wi-Fi range and not looking to spend a lot I would recommend giving this a look. ... show more

  • It works! WiFi throughout the house now!
This is a simple LITTLE (it's quite small) product that solved my issue completely. In my case, the WiFi router was in the basement at the far end of the house, and the other end simply did not get reception. The router has a WPS button and I opted to connect using that - let me reassure anyone who buys this that it DOES take a good while for initial connection, there will be a few moments when you think something has to be broken and it's not going to work - but after about six minutes the lights stabilized on top in the configuration that indicated it had connected. Unplugged it, took it upstairs and plugged it into an outlet. I then went to the end of the house that had no reception and tried my phone to see if it would now get WiFi. IT DID. Streaming YouTube videos played perfectly. Watching a Hulu video on the tablet was no problem. It's been connected for almost a month with zero issues, even after a couple of power outages. It does exactly what it says it will do and does it well. UPDATE on 2/4/2019 - this little device is STILL working like a champ. Really happy with this purchase. UPDATE on 8/15/2020 - it's still working wonderfully. We dropped our cable TV and stream exclusively now, and this device continues to function and makes streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime possible in the far end of this house. One of the best purchases I've ever made, and for so little money. Update on 8/14/2021: Still working! We had a massive electrical storm that caused a couple of power outages and literally reset the router to its default settings (wiped out the SSID and password I was using), plus evidently fried the WPS button because neither this device nor a wireless-enabled printer would connect that way once power returned. Printer got connected via manually typing in the details. I looked up manual for this device and connected it via its web link - and it still works like a charm! ... show more
