I put a pencil next to the bottom plate for thickness comparison. It's close to 5/16" thick. Big 5" 3/8 bolts 8.8 grade. I didn't know it comes with an anti-rattle bolt on top, a nice bonus. The length of the receiver is 7" total front to back, the hole is from front to center of hole 2-1/2". I purchased this so I could make use of a open metal mesh hitch carrier I have, since I have a pickup I could convert it into a generator carrier for the RV. I did purchase separately 4" u-bolts and pre-punched angle iron to use as bracing, keep it from tipping side to side. Also, in case of bolt failure. I might update this review in a year and show the overall result. I like the heavy metal feel and painting, feels like a good quality product. Nice solid welded joints, no spot welding. ... show more

I installed this hitch in about 10 minutes with a ratchet and a wrench. It snugged up real tight allowing me to install an aluminum basket on my travel trailer bumper. I put a large cooler on it.
