Easy to clean, easy to use, and damn well worth the money. I got this as a beginners step of having my own rice cooker while I'm independent, and I love it. I wanted this as a 'i dont need a super fancy one yet' sort of purchase instead of getting the one that sings to you and cooks rice at a certain time and etc. I haven't tried to make much else in this cooker. besides WHITE MEDIUM GRAIN SUISHI GRADE RICE. I wash and rinse my rice, 5 times before (3 is unlucky, and 4 isnt enough sorta rule). Drain, and add to the pot. Let it cook for about the suggested 50 minutes and bam it's perfect everytime. No burning, no crunchy undercooked rice, it's absolutely perfect and fluffy. The keep warm feature does it's job and it's definitely a keeper. I will say though, the 50 minute rice time the machine says is a little bit surprising at first, especially if you decide to presoak your rice after washing. But honestly I think that 50 min is [for the 15 min] soaking bit built in since it take a bit to warm up, but even then I NEVER have had a bad batch of rice sense getting this rice cooker. (Also I will say if your bag of rice says cup to water ration on the bag, but the booklet says different always default to the bag of rice -- the people who bag it probably know it a bit better than the spit balling of some algorithm) The added rice paddle and ladle are super handy too. I make Japanese style curry a lot and I use the ladle for my curry and the rice paddle to make everything else involving the rice (fluffy, distributing, packing into rice molds, storing). The inside bowl is removeable and easy to clean with a simple pass with a sponge, a rinse, and a dry. I will say that it definitely didn't smell bad out of the box, and I only gave the pan a soaping and everything else a cursory wipe down. After using it to make rice, you literally just washing it out the same way, soaping and a wipe or two with a sponge and then drying. If you dry it on the rack, it will literally be ready to go back in after about 20 minutes, if not less (no joke.) The booklet comes with recommendations, recipes, and more. It might not sing you a little tune, but it's definitely a good rice cooker for a poor beginner! I was on the fence about having it and using it, but now I love it and even if I don't use it everyday I can't imagine my life without it. Anyway I LOVE IT. If anything happens to it down the line, I will definitely update this review.

Perfect for my husband and myself. Left my rice cooker on accidentally on after setting the White Rice cooking mode for over 10 hours! Rice was still fluffy and not crispy or burned! Rice was still warm and at a perfect temperature that my rice was still perfectly good. 100% recommend!! I also cooked black rice on the Brown Rice mode perfectly. You can tell the ceramic bowl was nicely made and has some nice weight to it. True non-stick and super easy to wash, food just tends to slide right off. Recommend for college students that live in dorms since it's nice and a not too small. Nice for cooking a complete meal inside, and the mode buttons are easy to see and use.

I am 32yrs old and in high school I would eat rice every single day because I needed the carbs for sports. After high school I continued eating brown rice pretty much every day as well, but it got hard to cook, so I started getting the packets that you just heat in the microwave 90 secs and you're done and while that is quick, convenient, and easy, it was a little concerning microwaving something in plastic and eating it essentially everyday for over a decade, so I started trying to make my own but boiling the water and making sure the heat doesn't get too high and boil too much or boil over was annoying. Well, I enjoy anime, and one thing I see regularly is rice cookers, so I looked into it, found this one, and gave it a shot, and it is amazing. No it isn't instant or 90sec and you are eating, but I put in the rice, then the water, push the brown rice setting and start and when it finishes it is perfect. I don't know how they do it but I love this thing. I also make 8 treasure congee with the porridge setting, and it took 2 tries playing with the amount of water(not the cookers fault the recipes fault) and now I can make perfect 8 treasure congee to eat for breakfast. I haven't tried any of the other setting, but for just cooking brown rice this thing is worth its weight in gold. Clean up so far has been extremely easy, I wash the 3 removable pieces(the humidity catcher thing, the piece on the inside of the lid, and the bowl) everytime I use it and really the bowl is the only thing that gets "dirty", but even after letting congee sit and stick to the sides of the bowl, it's really easy to clean. The easiest way is to while it is still warm get everything out of the bowl, use a towel to remove the bowl cause it will still be hot, set it in the sink and run cold water in it and in less than a minute it is already cooled off enough that you can touch it and run your hand along the inside cleaning anything that didn't come off in the initial rinse. I will get so much use out of this thing. UPDATE: I've been using this for rice like always and still amazed, but recently I tried to "boil" eggs, and it is amazing. I still have no idea how it works but somehow it is perfect. When I boil eggs(just like with rice) it is hard to keep the temp at the right level, the water boils, then boils over, then it isn't boiling at all. Boiled eggs I normally do end up sticking when I peel them, but everytime I do eggs in this thing they just come out perfect. I've nervously added more eggs or done less eggs thinking that might mess them up, but it doesn't matter they are perfect every single time.

We needed a small rice cooker that would make enough for just the two of us. The Toshiba reviews were great and we knew from past experience that their reliability would be great. We like the different steaming options. When you pre-rinse the rice as instructed, the rice comes out perfect every time and fluffy. Easy to fill, easy to clean and easy to store away. The cord attaches much better than our older machine, which used a magnetic type plug. This one is a lot safe and doesn't come unattached even when bumped. Highly recommended if you just need a basic machine without all the bells and whistles.

tested this 3-cup Toshiba against an older Zojirushi Neuro Fuzzy using 145g of Janine Rice rinsed with two changes of water. I used 250g water which matched the recommended physical volume to the lines indicated on both machines. Both machines were started simultaneously and took nearly the same amount of time to complete (54 minutes). The Toshiba rice was satisfactory but still inferior to the Zojirushi. The Toshiba produced a softer, stickier end product. The Zojirushi showed better grain separation with a slightly al dente mouth feel. This is not surprising given that the Zojirushi is triple the price and has long been considered the best home rice cooker on the market. It is worth noting that this comparison is for one cup of rice in a 3-cup Toshiba vs. 5-cup Zojirushi. Also, it's possible that the Toshiba would do better with less water — the manual permits adjusting the water +/- 33% — but I have not done so. Beyond price, there are other reasons to consider the Toshiba. The liner is significantly heavier with a very high quality non-stick coating. I'm replacing the Zojirushi because the liner is heavily scratched and a replacement is out of stock on their website and going for over $120 on the secondary market. Additionally, the Toshiba has settings for cake, hard boiled eggs and slow cooking. It is also available in the smaller size I want (Zojirushi seems to only offer 3-cup in their only Micon line which other testers have found slightly inferior to Neuro Fuzzy). The Toshiba is less bulbous which makes it easier to store and provides an estimated cook time upon starting while the Zojirushi only displays a countdown later in the cooking process. Both keep programmed time when unplugged although the Toshiba does not display the time unless you plug it in. I would prefer the Zojirushi's automatic cord retraction to the removable plug on the Toshiba but the retraction on the Zojirushi has partially failed so that advantage is moot. Overall, the Toshiba should please all but the most discerning rice afficianados and with some adjustments to the water amount it may do even better. It's also worth noting that in third party testing no rice cooker earns perfect marks across all types of rice, but I have not performed those tests myself. I for one am keeping the Toshiba as it provides an excellent value and preferable form factor while producing rice that only barely falls short of the best.

This is my favorite kitchen appliance by far. I read so many reviews and compared specs and prices and landed on this one. It is so easy to use, has a sleek design, and the rice comes out perfect every time. Despite liking to cook and cooking dinner daily, I never looked forward to making rice, let alone a variety - because it came out either undercooked or mushy, would boil over, etc. Now - we’re making so many different types of rice with this machine and they all come out perfect! Cooking time varies between type you’re making. You fill up the provided clear plastic cup with rice, then use the amount of water based on the type. The inside of the bowl has a ‘cheat sheet’ for white rice & mixed grain which is really nice. So, I measure my rice (2 ‘cups’ measured in the provided clear plastic cup), add it to the rice cooker bowl, add water and rinse and drain multiple times, then (with the rice already rinsed/drained and in the bowl), I add water up to the line (e.g. mixed grain’s 2 line). Pop it into the cooker, close it, select your mode and wait for the beep - perfect rice! The system controls the temperature and time while it cooks. We learned to add salt to the water/rice before cooking. The manual cautions you of adding any other spices/extras so it doesn’t damage the cooker’s bowl. Wish I had bought sooner. Such a good way for mess-free hands-off meal prep. Give yourself an hour of cook time for mixed grain, less for white rice.

The Best rice cooker! The Toshiba is built strong and cooks like a champ. I made basmati rice and it came out nice and fluffy. Then put it back in to make creamy rice pudding and that turned out fantastic. I tried my brownie recipe and it turned out super nice but it was a little dry. So next time I'll only leave it in for 35 min instead of 55. I'm so happy with the Toshiba, I can't wait to try my cornbread recipe tomorrow. Super easy, quick and easy to clean. Seeing the Toshiba name was what I needed to pull the trigger. My first, and likely only, rice cooker does exactly what I wanted, which is perfectly cooked rice every time. Small footprint, easy clean up and ease of use make this a 5 star device.
